While mid-week blues got me going crazy at work; taking time for an exciting exhibit ensured the hump day (aka Wednesday) ushers in some sanity! I got an exclusive glimpse of the Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N - which finally made it's way to Mumbai this week. The exhibit is offering a marvellous interactive and VR experience, while allowing Marvel fans to explore the world of Avengers like never before!

It was the perfect opportunity to delve into the history, science, engineering, genetics, technology and profiles of Captain America, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man. And, if being Shuri wasn't enough, (you know my connection, don't you?) I became a qualified Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N recruit by the end of this 30-40 minute experiential. Well, you can too! #DancebeeTravels | Exploring Manipur - Loktak Lake

My recent trip to Manipur was quite short (we had less than 3 days on hand, and a lot of it included personal commitments), but we tried to pack in some time to explore the scenic north eastern state. We zeroed in on some of the most beautiful, well known locations in and around the capital city of Imphal. On Day 2, we explored the popular Loktak Lake (located near Moirang) - which is the largest freshwater lake in North East India and is popular for it's floating 'phumdis'.

Of course, I took my vlog camera along and caught some beautiful moments, while exploring the scenic lake and surrounding areas! We took a short boat trip and also got the chance to visit the Keibul Lamjao National Park for a few hours.

Hope you enjoy this short, yet informative vlog. The next time you visit Manipur, do explore Loktak Lake and indulge in the magic of north-east India's scenic surroundings.

PS: Don't forget to bump up the video quality to full HD and enjoy!

Dancebee Rapid Fire with Kareena Kapoor Khan | Exclusive

Pretty, hot & tempting; if you hear these words and the Diva's name doesn't cross your mind, then well, you certainly need a vacation! Well, Bollywood's very own begum Kareena Kapoor Khan turns 39 today. The actress ringed in her birthday with family and close friends with a chilled and relaxed get together at their ancestral home in Pataudi. We all can agree that age is just a number for Bebo, as she continues to give us major fitness and style goals, every single day. As part of her birthday week celebrations, here's an exclusive, fun rapid fire Q&A that we did with the actress. And yes, she has something to say about her little prince Taimur as well!

Of course, we don't have a KJo style hamper thing going on here, but we look forward to continuing this 'Rapid Fire' series in the future, adding a dash of fun Q&A with your favourite stars!

Favourite film that celebrates friendship?
Dil Chahta Hai! It's the perfect example of a 'friendship' film, and I think it was quite ahead of its times. It changed the whole dynamics in Indian cinema.

Your girl squad?
It's all over Instagram. I think everybody knows (laughs)

Does the girl gang have its share of 'kiss and make up' moments?
Well, there is always room for opinions and debate. But, we don't really fight!

If you could have one special power, what would you do with it?
I honestly wish that I could always be around my son [Taimur], and never go anywhere without him.

One personality trait of Saif [Ali Khan] that you really admire.
The list would be endless, other wise I wouldn't have married him (laughs). Our value system is the same, and I think that is the most important thing that you look for in a man.

Something about your equation with Saif, that stands out from the rest!
Probably, the fact that we agree on so many things. Our fundamentals in life are very much aligned.

Are you a Kareena Kapoor Khan fan? What are your thoughts on her journey in Bollywood so far?

Web shows are like great literature, where characters have enough time to breathe - Emraan Hashmi | Exclusive Interview (Bard of Blood)

$

After impressing us with his performance in the January release - Why Cheat India, and leaving an impactful mark with his act in 'Tigers' (which released on an OTT platform last year), actor Emraan Hashmi is all set to make his 'digital debut' with the much anticipated - Bard of Blood. Helmed by Ribhu Dasgupta and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the show is based on Bilal Siddiqui's espionage novel by the same name, and the show promises to be an edge of the seat, exhilarating spy thriller, with Hashmi essaying the role of an excommunicado RAW Agent named Kabir Anand.

If the teaser, trailer or the promotional buzz surrounding this Netflix drama hasn't got you excited already, we suggest you catch a cuppa and binge watch the show NOW (Yes, the show went live earlier today)! But before that, we aren't letting you go without enjoying our exclusive chat with Emraan Hashmi himself. From working on Bard of Blood to discussing the potential of OTT platforms in India, we got Hashmi to answer some interesting questions and the actor was all ears!

Bard of Blood goes live on Netflix today, and the project generated immense curiosity.  What went behind the scenes in the last few months?
A sneak peek from our Leh Schedule was screened at the Netflix conference in Singapore earlier this year. It was a 45 second video cut, which actually the audience never gets to see here. But, Netflix is very excited about the stuff we have shot. So much so, that we have had officials ask us if we have shot some portions on the moon (smiles). Leh Ladakh, as a terrain, is absolutely beautiful and a lot of people haven’t explored it to the fullest. So, we shot a schedule of 25 days there, and the final schedule was shot in Rajasthan. We are happy with the look and overall tone of this show, and we believe it has shaped up well. Bard of Blood is for the Indian audience, but at the same time, we are trying to hit a sweet spot for the 190 other countries that we are pitching it to, for the international audience. We’ve tried to retain some basic masala elements for the Indian audience (smiles), but while ensuring that we don’t play around with the logic.

What's the biggest takeaway from your character - Kabir Anand, or from the show as a whole?
I used to wake up at 6 am everyday, because we used to start shooting at 7 am, especially during the last few schedules. The entire shooting experience was brilliant, and undoubtedly, the best takeaway for me has got to be discipline. We shot this show over a period of eight months, which means, I have literally lived my character - Kabir Anand, throughout that time. So, that's the longest I have ever lived any character. Technically, a film has about two - three hours of screen time. However, a show like Bard of Blood has seven episodes, about 45 - 47 minutes each. That's almost five hours of screen time. So, it won't be wrong to say that Kabir is going to resonate with me for sometime.

What’s your take on the shift of entertainment consumption on OTT and social media platforms?
The shift is huge. Six-seven years back, when the digital boom hadn’t hit, our industry thought that people were consuming things on music channels, television. But, 80% of the people now consume it on YouTube. Most of the people who come to cinema halls actually want that time wherein they can watch their favourite content when they want to see it, and not at a particular or set time. That’s one power we’ve got as an audience, and it’s here to stay. People from our industry resisted, because their major livelihood does not depend on it right now, and they do see it as a threat. But, everyone will eventually jump on the bandwagon, which is clearly happening. It’s like the advent of television after radio, or VHS after television. Initially, people resist and then jump on it. So, digital is in that sphere and is growing very fast. For e.g: Netflix wants their next 100 million to come from India, which is a huge number, and they are willing to explore that in their five year plan. It won’t eat away from films, but it will be a parallel avenue. It will certainly make us pull our socks up and think about the content that we are presenting to the audience.

Go on..
Right now, when people are consuming content on these platforms, you can’t keep churning out the same type of films that you did a decade back. Because, they are now exposed to a lot more, and have experienced a variety of genres. So, it will definitely keep us on our toes. Like, even for a show like Bard of Blood! I am a big fan of web shows. With films, everything is compressed into two hours. But here, it’s like great literature, where you have enough time for characters to breathe. They can form over a period of 8-10 parts in a series, which is not possible with films. It’s a different platform, but there will always be takers for cinema when you go for communal viewing, and of course, the personal or family viewing would continue on OTT platforms, which is great as everyone has an option now.

Would you be open to backing original productions for digital platforms in the future as a producer?
At least in Hollywood, most of the great writing is on the web. Apart from some of the Marvel films, most films have failed to perform well in the last one-two years. Web shows and original productions have fared better. So, writers again have a space where they can spread their wings, and do things out of the box. So, as a producer, I would definitely want to explore digital productions as well.

You’ve got your hands full with some interesting projects. Tell us something about the line up!
There is Father’s Day, an untitled film with Kunal Deshmukh. Another project is in the pipeline currently, which shall be announced shortly. I’ll be starting work on these projects very soon. There is Body, which is complete and shall release sometime next year. And now, Bard of Blood on Netflix is finally live. So, I feel grateful to have more than my hands full.

Stay by the Baga Riverside on your next trip to Goa | The Acron Waterfront Experience

Early morning breeze. Soothing sounds of the local birds, and the Baga river that flows gently. Watching the sunrise from the comfort of your balcony, and soaking in the calmness, while sipping on a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee; sounds wonderful, isn't it? Well, this isn't a fictional account from some old storybook. This is exactly how my mornings unfolded. After a rather crazy work schedule, we took off for a 5 day getaway. This time, the idea was to relax and unwind, instead of exploring new areas (like I generally do) in Goa. A little away from the hustle and bustle of the super busy Baga beachside, we found our peaceful haven, tucked away close to the beautiful Baga river - Acron Waterfront Resort. The serenity experienced during my visit to Goa this year was simply unmatched.  And, our stay gave us enough reasons to recommend this wonderful property for your next holiday in Goa.

Property: Acron Waterfront Resort, Goa

Location: Seaward side of the Baga Bridge (North Goa)

Property Overview: Airy, spacious and packed with tons of positive vibes; the boutique property houses 47 beautiful rooms, which are carefully designed and have great attention to detail, and are packed with all modern amenities. I mean, imagine lazing around in bed and still being able to catch the most breathtaking view of the river side! The rooms have enough space for families, groups to unwind, move around and chill at leisure, which is a huge plus, considering many hotels tend to offer tiny rooms. So, while you enjoy walking around the property, you equally adore the time spent relaxing around in the room and balcony area. The property also has a boardroom (perfect for MICE), apart from a gym and spa. Fitness enthusiasts, you need not take a break from your routine!

Take your pick from the Seaside Rooms, Riverside Rooms (highly recommended) or the Courtyard Room. Large groups and families can also opt for the Courtyard Suites or Penthouse Suites - which are basically 3 bedroom apartments that come with a peaceful garden setting. For our stay, we were picked the 'Riverside Room' - which offers a majestic view of the Baga river, part of the Beach area and is surrounded by serenity. The sunrise and sunset views are simply incredible!

Stunning Views - If you aren't looking at being touristy and would prefer a more relaxing time within the property itself, then look no further. From a stunning infinity pool to a temperature controlled Jacuzzi and a river deck that offers an unmatched view of the riverfront; there is a lot to choose from. We spent hours lazing by the poolside, listening to music and enjoying good conversations. The lounge area by the poolside is the perfect spot to soak in some sunshine, and unwind with your loved ones. Taking a dip in the infinity pool was easily our favourite activity during the stay. Personally, this is my favourite part of the property. Acron Waterfront Resort has one of the best pools in Goa, that faces the Baga river and offers a scenic view of the entire riverside and the beach. Our evenings were spent taking a dip, while enjoying the sunset and some beautiful conversations!

Hearty Meals - From breakfast to lunch, dinner and fries by the poolside; our meals were all about the personalised touch. Our mornings at the property got a mighty kickstart, thanks to a superb break fast spread, where one can choose from the available options or customise a particular dish of their choice. Lunches were all about the 'Goan' touch, as we enjoyed Chef curated dishes, and even got the opportunity to cook alongside them. Seafood lovers are in for a treat, as you can devour fresh catch of the day, cooked as per your taste and preference (the chef highly recommends 'King Prawns' and Goan Fish Curry).

Candle Light Dinners - Our favourite was undoubtedly the quiet and calm candle lit dinners by the river front side, where we were given the option of picking between a Buffet or  à la carte menu. Take your bae along for a peaceful dinner, follow it up with a long walk, and create moments like no other!

Long Walks under the Starry Sky - When we weren't taking a dip, we took long walks across the property, and settled down at the deck area, gazing at an open sky full of stars. Thanks to the fact that this property is tucked away at a convenient yet cozy location, one isn't bothered by too much noise or any kind of disturbance. You enjoy your own personal space, and can enjoy midnight walks alongside the river side, the cold breeze and the starry nights post a good, hearty dinner.

Courteous Staff - While we can never stop complimenting the excellent ambiance and amenities at the property, what won our heart was the impeccable hospitality. Even the best of properties are incomplete without the magic of perfect hospitality and a warm, courteous staff. The folks at Acron Waterfront Resort go out of their way to ensure your stay is a memorable one. From making personalised arrangements, rushing to get you basic amenities like water, shower gel or iron board (even at odd hours) and welcoming the guests with a warm smile, every time they get back from a long day out; we absolutely loved the energy and enthusiasm that reflected on their face. It added to the overall good vibes that one can experience at the property.

Nearest Beaches: Baga Beach - 1.7 kms, Candolim - 6 kms, Calangute - 3 kms
Anjuna Beach - 5.5 kms

Popular Hangouts: Tito's, Mambo's Club - 1.5 kms, Anjuna Flea Market - 4.8 kms

Verdict: Highly recommend that you book this property for your next relaxed holiday in North Goa!
☆☆☆☆☆

Well, it's the perfect time to book your stay at the Acron Waterfront Resort - since the 'travel season' in Goa has officially begun and will go on all the way till March. What's more? You can get some exciting deals, if you book your stay on their official website. So, whether it's a quick weekend getaway or a week long break, we highly recommend that you enjoy the 'waterfront' experience - which is truly like no other! They have got some exciting offers going on for the current festive season, so don't forget to keep an eye out on their official website!

Birthday Special | Top 10 Films We Love - Shah Rukh Khan

$
0
0
Almost every second girl born in the 90s will tell you, "Uff! He was/is my first crush." Most of us have seen numerous movies starring this charismatic actor. Most of them on repeat (and now, even on Netflix). There is no limit to the fan mania and buzz surrounding him. The actor, who has graced several magazine covers (including Time) and has got a room full of awards, turns 54 today. And even after all that 'crazy' love from more than a million fans and endless compliments for his performances, one thing remains the same - His smile, those dimples, the signature air hug pose and his down to earth nature. Yes, we are talking about none other than, the birthday boy - Shah Rukh Khan. Naam toh suna hi hoga!

While zeroing down to 'just' ten films was a mammoth task, we managed to list down some of our favourites, that we can never get enough of.

1. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Any conversation related to King Khan is incomplete without this gem of a film. The fact that most film lovers still can't get enough of DDLJ is the reason why it holds the record of being the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema. There is no one who hasn't enjoyed swaying to the tunes of Zara jhoom loon main and loved Rahul's antics throughout the film. Raise your hands if you couldn't stop going 'Aww' when Rahul says 'Palat' or observes a Karva Chauth fast for Simran. C'mon, just how brilliant was SRK in this one?

2. Devdas

One of my favourite performances by Khan, Devdas was all things beautiful. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama was one such film, where we saw Khan stepping out of his comfort zone and portraying a character that has earlier been impeccably essayed by Dilip Kumar saab. But, despite the remake tag, Khan gracefully stepped into the shoes of Devdas and presented an award winning performance. The climax and Devdas' downfall is enough to give you goosebumps and a few tears. Tissues, anyone?

3. Kal Ho Na Ho

If Devdas made you shed a few tears, be prepared to cry bucket loads in Nikhil Advani's Kal Ho Na Ho. How can anyone not fall for the chirpy and fun loving Aman Mathur. Khan earned accolades for his portrayal of this young man, who is a terminally ill patient. Remember the popular dialogue - "Naina, kaash mein tumhe bataa sakta, mein tumhe kitna chahta hun. I love you, I love you very, very much Naina." Who else spotted several people crying in the theatre, while shedding a tear or two? Also, who can forget the immortal 'Kantaben' and her chronicles. A lovely rom-com with tons of emotional moments, and an unforgettable performance by Khan. That climax was literally 'to die' for.

4. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

I have lost count of the times I have seen this film and it is almost impossible to believe the fact that KKHH completed nineteen years in 2017.  Rahul and Anjali (played by Khan and Kajol respectively) are one of my most favourite Bollywood on-screen couples, and needless to say, they were absolutely adorable. Not to forget, Rahul's attire in the film became quite a rage way back in 1998. Those GAP sweatshirts, silver chains with a pendant bearing the initials 'cool' and figure hugging Polo Sport tees were everywhere. There are endless memorable moments and dialogues in the film, but how can we miss - "Hum ek baar jeete hain, ek baar marte hain. Shaadi bhi ek hi baar hoti hai, aur pyaar, pyaar bhi ek hi baar hota hai."

5. Swades

While most cine-goers termed this film as 'passable', I think this is one of Khan's most under-rated performances till date. This Ashutosh Gowariker film was quiet ahead of it's time and showcased the reality of rural India in an amazing way. SRK's portrayal of Mohan Bhargav was brilliant and once again, showed a different side of his acting ability. The change from a mineral water loving NRI to someone, who is willing to go all out for his village folks, was a treat to watch. The most poignant moment? Undoubtedly, the water scene at a station. It is hands down one of the best scenes in recent times.

6. Mohabbatein

*violins playing in the background* "Maine aaj tak sirf ek hi ladki se mohabbat ki hai. Aur zindagi bhar, sirf us hi se karta rahoonga." The autumn leaves and turtle neck knit sweaters will instantly remind you of the loveable - Raj Aryan. Be it those eyes that long for Megha or the effervescent personality and charming style with which he played the violin, Khan made Raj Aryan look every bit the lover boy that he was. The film may not have earned him awards (except a few critics choice trophies), but his depiction of Raj surely made its way into our heart.

7. Dil Toh Pagal Hain

Music, camera and spotlight! Voila, the teaser promo of Dil Toh Pagal Hain created a frenzy among every Yash Chopra and SRK fan (I must have been just four or five-years-old around that time, but can never forget the hysteria that was DTPH). I remember watching the film thrice in a theater, only because of my love for dance and to witness Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) - Rahul's adorable chemistry. But hey, we must give it to Rahul, who in his quest for 'Maya', realises what true love can actually do. Incredible songs, fabulous choreography and a top notch performance by SRK (and others too), what's not to love here?

8. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

How can we ignore Rahul Raichand and his funny ways of winning Anjali's heart? Despite the star studded cast and growing popularity of Hrithik Roshan around the same time, Khan stole the show with Kajol in this one. Ever noticed how Rahul can't stop nagging throughout the film - "No drinking, no smoking! No der se aana aur yahan se jitna jaldi ho chale jaana," - or the hilarious arguments that he just doesn't seem to win against 'Poo'? Rahul was the perfect husband, son, brother-in-law and brother, any family could ever ask for. This family material guy was exceptionally essayed by Khan, who added his own charm to the character with his excellent, natural dialogue delivery.

9. Veer Zaara

Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh. Sigh! This man. Another one of my personal favorite performances (and film) happens to be this. Khan's natural emotions, expressions, body language and attitude makes this character extremely special. One just can't take their eyes off the actor when he walks around in this uniform. He looked stylish in those new golden hair streaks, brown leather jackets, ray-ban aviators and well fitted pathani suits. And what do I say about the ease with which he delivered this splendid performance? Look into those eyes and any girl would melt when Veer says - "Sarhad paar ek aisa shaks hai, joh aapke liye apni jaan bhi de dega." Play this film and watch a hundred girls go 'Haaye' already.

10. Chak De! India

Reserved the best for the last. One of my favourite films, Chak De! India not only made thousands of Indians rekindle their love for Hockey, but also presented Khan's career best performance. Just look at that fine act. Only a seasoned actor, who has always worked hard to ace every scene, can put life and soul into a character like Kabir Khan. Every time I watch this film, I just can't stop raving about Khan's performance and the way he has displayed varied emotions in a span of 153 minutes. Forget the 70 minute speech, it was like Khan took an oath himself to make sure that "Ki yeh 153 usse koi nahi cheen sakta." Though the girls may have got their share of accolades, it was Khan's powerful performance that won many hearts. Watch the scene where Khan can't believe his eyes and tries to sink in the feeling that India has indeed won the World Cup, and you will know what we are talking about. My only regret - Khan didn't get the National Award for this well deserved, flawless performance.

Special Mention: Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa - One of SRK's early films. Despite experimenting with different genres, Khan left a mark in this heart warming, beautiful tale, with an adorable performance.

Khan and his 'Must watch' list of films is quite an endless one. Om Shanti Om was cute, and so was Main Hoon Na. The actor is surely best with the highest number of memorable films and on this day, we pray that he keeps entertaining us with unforgettable performances in the years to come.

Happy Birthday SRK!!!

The Journey of Mickey Mouse | Birthday Special

$

He has been one of our favourite childhood darlings. Almost every child has owned at least one merchandise from Disney world (or the local toy store) that has something to do with him. You can never get enough of his 'big ears'. We have all had birthday cakes shaped like him or kiddie perfumes sold in bottles that resemble his face. On a personal note, my post-school and dance session evenings were incomplete without his hour long shows, where he, along with his other four famous pals, would keep me entertained. But, when you are told that your favourite, adorable little mouse turns 91 today, you can't help but spent a moment of silence to understand that time does fly too quickly.

Yes, I am talking about the most cheerful mouse you will ever come across. Late Sir Walt Disney's beloved - Mickey Mouse! On this day, the well mannered, perfectly dressed and sophisticated mouse made his debut in a cute film called Steamboat Willie in 1928. Every individual, who feels that Mickey Mouse was indeed an integral part of their childhood, must watch this film.

As everybody's favourite Mickey turns a year older, we take a look at some of our favourite shows and films featuring the superstar mouse.

"I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse." - Walt Disney.
Yes indeed, this is where it all started. The lovable mouse, created together by Sir Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, was actually inspired by a mouse, that Disney came across while sketching a few ideas, as he wanted to create a new character, that could become the face of Disney as a company.
And once he was born, the audience got a lovely visual treat in the form Steamboat Willie, that continues to rule many hearts even after 86 years.

The Karnival Kid
By 1929, the mouse was definitely more popular (and a year old now). In a span of one year, the audience has already seen him in films like The Opry House and When The Cat's Away, but it was The Karnival Kid that turned out to be the next milestone, as this is where you will hear Mickey speaking for the first time. And guess who turned voice actor for this charming character? None other than Disney himself.

Mickey's Orphans
Despite internal problems (Iwerks walked away to create his own studio), Mickey's popularity continued to soar and after a couple of short films in between, it was in 1931 that he received his first Academy Award nomination for Mickey's Orphans. This was also the year when Sir Walt Disney was awarded with an honorary award for creating this endearing mouse.
Warning: Cuteness overload in the next film!

Parade of the Award Nominees & The Band Concert
While Mickey's first official appearance in colour, Parade of the Award Nominees, was in a film strip exclusively made for the 5th Academy Awards in 1932, his first public colour film came out only in 1935. Titled The Band Concert, this film was also voted as the third greatest cartoon of all time, in a poll of animated professionals in the year 1994. Post this film, Mickey's friend Donald also became quite popular, thanks to his crazy (read: funny) antics.

The Simple Things
The year 1953 saw a few last regular theatrical films starring Mickey, post which, he became a regular on animated television films and even popular series like House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse among others. He even did a few cameos in animated-live action films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Muppets At Walt Disney World among others. In The Simple Things (1953), Mickey is seen fishing with Pluto.

Mickey was also seen in another lovely film titled Mickey's Christmas Carol, which was an adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Unfortunately, there is very little access to this film on the internet and hence, you need to be lucky enough to catch this precious film on Disney channel at home. With every passing decade, one saw various changes in Mickey's appearance. His clothing became more sophisticated, the colours used for his apparel changed overtime. Surprisingly, the new shorts feature him in an avatar, which is quite similar to his looks from 1930s. In one of these short films, we see Mickey in an Indian avatar, as he takes to the Mumbai roads as  guess what? A rickshaw-wala. Don't miss this for anything, folks!

But hey, be it any look, we can't thank Mickey enough for filling our childhood with lots of fun and awesomeness. We all may grow up, but nobody will mind turning all child-like again to watch these films and shows.

Happy Birthday, Mickey! We love you.

Tips to reduce Period Pain | Let's Talk about Periods

$

0
As women, we go through the monthly grind of tracking our period dates, experiencing mood swings during the time of PMS and what follows is obviously the real deal - your monthly cycle of periods. Every human body is different, so what your mother or sibling experiences during her monthly cycle may not be the same for you and vice versa. While pre and during menstrual cycle symptoms differ from person to person - including acne, bloating, tender breasts, massive change in mood (ranging from anger, irritation, feeling lethargic to emotional) and some even tend to fall severely sick with cold, fever. However, period cramps and pain is something that we all experience.

While the nature of pain, it's level and pain points may be different, what's constant is the discomfort experienced during the cycle. It does get difficult to focus on work and other commitments, especially during the first 2-3 days, when the heavy flow coupled with pain pushes an individual to the edge. While some people prefer popping an OTC medicine, many of us don't like to take any pills. Several women experience excruciating pain, while some simply have muscular pains / cramps on the first day. Period pain differs from person to person, depending upon personal health and lifestyle.  There's a lot to it than what meets the eye, so if anyone suffers from any form of pain that is impossible to handle, one must visit their doctor / gynaecologist and get this discussed.

I've always used this platform to share my own experiences. So, why not this? Starting today, our new series - "Let's Talk about Periods' will feature posts that focus on personal thoughts, remedies, and anecdotes related to a topic that is something that we all - as women - experience. The idea stemmed from an incident, where I realised how even in 2019, people go red or shut their ears when someone speaks about pads, sanitary hygiene and periods on a public platform. In a country that still considers 'menstruation' as a taboo and something which shouldn't be spoken about on a larger platform. We need more discussions on something as basic as a period cycle, and share our thoughts, which can help other women, especially young girls, with the required knowledge.

Let's kick off the first post, where I discuss personally tried and tested tips, which help me ease the discomfort during a period cycle

Drink ample of Water
Many of you may find this to be a cliched. But, we don't realise the importance of water and it's miracles enough. Lack of water tends to make the body feel more sluggish and can lead to mental stress. Drinking enough water (at least 2-3 litres), especially during your cycle, will not only keep you hydrated, but also ensure that the toxins are flushed out and eases out bloating. I always carry a bottle of water with me, wherever I go. It helps during long hours spent in traffic, and drinking water in regular intervals also ensures that the body functions perfectly.

Exercise - be it in any form!
A lot of us feel it's too much of an effort to drag ourselves and work out, especially when in pain. But, I've realised that nothing can help me distract from those cramps, quite like exercising does. Over time, I've seen the effect it has on the pain, as the endorphins released from the body does an excellent job at pain management. Plus, it supports proper flow of blood in the body, makes you feel happier from within, and throws out all the stress, tightness, making your body feel more flexible and light. Of course, you may want to give certain forms a miss if it gets too uncomfortable, but I personally love dancing, light running, yoga free hand exercises, and aerobics.

Take a hot water shower or bath
I am more of a bucket bath person, as I don't like wasting water. However, I love opting for hot water baths during the period cycle. Sometimes, I even add essential oils or use a refreshing shower gel to pamper myself. Such little efforts contribute to easing those cramps, and also helps release any form of stress, sluggishness or pain. Application of heat is known to benefit cramps quite well. One can even opt for a hot water bag, if the pain is intense.

Love me some Chamomile & Ginger Tea
During the monthly cycle, I usually prefer to have my regular cup of tea with ginger (and even on other days - as I cannot have plain tea). While I have ginger or masala tea in the morning, evenings are reserved for Chamomile tea. The anti-inflammatory properties in this tea helps ease cramps to a large extent. After a long tiring day at work, a hot cup of chamomile tea takes away all the stress, calms the mind and helps ensure I sleep well. This is has been one of my personal favourite picks, and I highly recommend that you try Chamomile tea as well.

Keep an eye on your Diet
This is crucial! During the period cycle, one tends to feel more inclined towards eating a lot of fried, cheesy or junk fast food items. Plus, midnight cravings push you to explore the dessert section, and hog on chocolates, pastries a little more often. I have a massive sweet tooth, and do have the cravings for sweets during my period cycle. However, I try to limit my chocolate intake, and usually opt for dark chocolate. Also, eating fresh fruits and / or green leafy veggies is a major plus. Your body needs food items that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc and calcium. I don't drink or smoke (and I've firmly stood by that ethic), but for those who do, it is recommended that you avoid indulging in these habits during the menstrual cycle.

Take time out for yourself
Light some aromatherapy candles, listen to good music, watch your favourite show or just gentle massage some of the pain points with a gentle, fragrant massage oil. Take a long walk or read a book. It is important that you take some time out for yourself and indulge in things that you love or like. It can just be spending a few minutes talking calmly with your loved ones. I always ensure that I prioritise myself and my health during the period cycle. Everybody deserves some 'me' time, and you taking time out and switching off for sometime is a must!

I hope some of these personally tried and tested tips help you during the next period cycle. These are small ways in which some part of the discomfort can be eased. Of course, you will always have OTC medicines, balms, stick on pain bandages and heat bags as an aid. But, these little things are important to ensure that your body feels light, fresh and stress-free. Periods should not hold you back from doing what you love! Let it become a part of your routine, and live each day with great positivity.

The Power Suit Girls | Style Files

If there is one statement look and trend that I swear by, it's the 'Pant-Suit' or 'Power Suit'. I can literally have them in every colour, texture and silhouette! Luckily for us, gone are the days when suits only meant stiff fabrics, straight fit trousers and corporate styled blazers, in not more than three colours - black, grey and brown (whatever happened to variance). Power suits have taken the spotlight, with celebrities opting to experiment and bring their a-game on the red carpet in brighter colours, relaxed silhouettes, and easy-going luxe blazers.

Power suits are all about comfort, and oozing that boss girl vibe with panache! Personally, I like making trips to Zara, Massimo Dutti and Mango to get my hands on some interesting Pant Suits. There are some interesting labels, e-commerce start ups and designers who have given their own interesting spin to this powerful outfit!

Let's take a look at how some of our favourite celebrities have rocked this power packed outfit in the past, and take notes on how you can put together the perfect look for office hours.

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja

Kareena Kapoor Khan

Bollywood's very own female actors have sported the pant suit at multiple occasions, taking it from day to night, formal occasions to casual brunch dates and bringing their own unique twist to every look. From Sonam Kapoor Ahuja's chic pink Calvin Klein suit to Deepika Padukone's edgy purple Mao suit; the divas have showed us that the pant suit is versatile and how! Pair it with a crisp white shirt like Sonam, a bold sheer blouse like PeeCee or go for a bandeau top like Bebo to show off your abs. There is a look made in fashion heaven for everyone!

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Neutral tones, sculpted shoulders, tuxedo style and edgy oversized; international superstars, models and actors have showed their liking for the outfit at a variety of events. Most prefer to keep the overall look minimalistic, while letting the outfit boss up and do the talking. The outfit has not only been restricted to glamming it up at red carpet events, but has also been viewed as part of fashion liberation. Lady Gaga chose a billowing, over-sized suit, as she delivered a strong and impactful message at the Elle 25th annual women in Hollywood (October 2018), where she delivered a powerful speech on her experience with mental health struggles and sexual assault, while concluding - "Today, I wear the suit." Many celebrities have chosen to put a powerful foot forward and made a statement with their choice of outfit!

Gigi Hadid, Lady Gaga and Rihanna

Emma Watson, Zendaya, Victoria Beckham

Best of 2019 | Cheers to the Year that Was - Editor's Note

$

As we get ready to welcome a brand new year, it's that time when we look back and reflect at those 365 days of the year gone by. Days when we discovered ourselves. Our strengths and weaknesses. Days when we learnt to let go, and those when we loved ourselves even more. Every year brings in a plethora of things - surprises, highs, achievements, lows, discoveries, excitement, nervousness and more. 2019 was no different! Yet, it was different in more ways than one for every individual, including me.

In 2019, personally, I experienced a multitude of emotions and discovered many sides to my personality. Learned a lot, and also learned to let go of certain flaws. Made new friends, and further learned to prioritise those who matter. Broke off ties with people possessing negative energy. Understood why quality time with loved ones is never enough, and prioritised their needs to the fullest. Further, bettered myself at multi-tasking and managing the work-life balance. Learned to love myself for all that I am. Discovered 'patience' in an all new light.

Encouraged positive thoughts and decided to make it an everyday habit, because the world can definitely do with more positivity. Understood that there might be days when you feel empty and hit a low. When nothing seems to work in the right direction. On those days, I realised the importance of taking time out for self care and indulging in things that I loved. Pushed myself to ensure I am always there to make my parents smile and feel happy from within. Continued my quest to take fitness more and more seriously, especially by learning new techniques and variations. Danced my heart out at some occasions, and promised myself to do more of it in the year to come.

In 2019, I tried my hand at new things, and realised why learning makes me truly happy from within. I challenged myself against the fear of Math and didn't stop till I emerged victorious. Experienced days when I stumbled, faced hurdles and even cried myself to sleep; only to wake up with the clear thought of turning the tide on a new day. I took time out to travel with my loved ones. Discovered new places that this beautiful world has to offer. Interacted with people, including those I've always been in awe of, and took back perils of wisdom that stayed with me. Got various opportunities to engage with people across different age groups, encouraging them to follow their dreams and give themselves a chance to become familiar with all that the digital world has to offer.

Lived new characters on-screen and learned something new from each role.  Understood why not just achievements, but also being thankful for every little joyous moment on a rather normal day matters too. Why having gratitude for all that I have been bestowed upon is extremely important. Moreover, the year taught me how to love, it's true meaning, and gave me the chance to experience the true beauty of 'romance' like never before, and that too, beyond the filters of what Bollywood has taught us all these years (yeah well, this was a first for me)!

As the year comes to a close, I thank god for everything! For the people in my life, the opportunities, projects, achievements, honours, interactions, the ever growing digital family and for every moment that made me smile. I am also thankful for the moments where I experienced a range of emotions - be it anger, sadness or fear; because they taught me to become stronger than ever. I truly believe - the universe conspires when you really wish for something! And so in 2020, which I strongly feel would be a landmark year, I pray we all are blessed with happiness, luck and lots of love around us. May we continue to work hard towards our goals, and witness dreams turning into a reality.

In the brand new year, I promise to learn, grow, master, absorb and discover more. To travel a lot more, love a lot more, spread positivity even more, and make everyday special for those who matter. And yes, it's gonna be a year full of creating tons of new content and experimenting with exciting, fresh things on the website, because the new year is all about new goals. It's time to dream on!

Thank you for making me a better person, 2019! You will always be special.
And, cheers to what I truly believe shall be a beautiful, exciting and enriching year.
Here's looking at you, 2020!!
