The Silk Veil | Kérastase Beautifying Oil Cream

$

During my hunt for new hair leave-in (honestly, I was looking for something new, although I was quite happy with TIGI's Ego Boost Leave - In conditioner), Kérastase launched their brand new Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil Cream. Before its official launch, their team very sweetly posted the products with a customized diary to our HQ and honestly, it couldn't have happened at a better time. The trial period began and so did the process of feeling a change in my hair. Let's face it, monsoons have more bad hair days than good ones and all the humidity, damp environment leaves us with limp or frizzy hair (depending on the hair texture). So, does Kérastase Beautifying Oil Cream live up to its expectations and serves as a good product for this weather (or for that matter, all seasons)? Keep reading to find out!

What? Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Oil Cream
Quantity: 150ml
Price: Rs 2200
Shelf life: Approximately Two years
Availability: Exclusive to all Kerastase Consultant Salons

What does it promise? Elixir crème fine is Kérastase's 1st beautifying oil day cream for all hair types: a cream of precious oils for lightweight moisturizing, protection, and flawless perfection. Hair is instantly replenished, radiant and lustrous.

Packaging: Just like all their hair products, the Kérastase beautifying oil cream comes in a classy tube with a metallic cap. The packaging looks very rich, especially due to the choice of golden hue for the tube. It is travel friendly and our personal experience was that it did not spill in the bag during a day long travel. Although similar tubes cause such problems, this one was sturdy and fuss free.

How to use? Take a pea-sized amount in your hand. Apply to the lengths and ends of dry or towel-dried hair. Gently massage the product in.

Texture: Supremely smooth and light weight. Just the way this brand likes to call it, the texture of this product is indeed like silk. A pea sized amount (or a little more, if your hair is longer than mine) is enough to go a long way and ensures that your hair gets de-tangled, feels light and smooth. The product has a little bit of shimmer, which is not visible on your hair, but it does not go unnoticed when you check your palms after application. Despite infusing oils and being a cream based product, the texture is not heavy at all.

Overall experience: I used this product regularly for a month, post wash and towel drying my hair well. During Summer, my hair goes through a lot of wear & tear, thanks to major traveling (especially under the sun during hot afternoons), different forms of work out (and tying up my hair), using hair styling equipments for shoots among other things. Plus, the humidity post Summer (mostly in June) makes my hair feel really heavy and limp. That was the major concern and most products only lead to additional build up of residue. When I started using the Kérastase Beautifying Oil Cream, the first trial felt just like most other products, although the texture was really amazing. It would make my hair feel soft and shiny for a few hours and then, all the traveling would take me back to square one. But, as you know, we do not judge anything based on just one trial. After a couple of trials, overtime, I realized the product is actually doing a good job of keeping my hair light, smooth and soft for a couple of days. By the third week, I could notice how even after several hours of work, my hair did not weigh down or feel heavy at all. I also used this along with a pre-styling cream before using the blow dryer for a shoot, and noticed how my hair did not dry out even after two days (which would happen sometimes earlier). I was the happiest when I paired this Oil cream with another product from the same - Elixir Ultime - family. I used the Kérastase Elixir Ultime Versatile Beautifying Oil as a pre-wash treatment and realized that when combined, these two products work as a magic potions for the hair. My hair felt so good, that now, the product has become a part of my hair essentials kit.

Pros: Smooth and extremely soft, light texture
Good packaging
Works overtime to ensure you get the best result
Adds a great, natural shine to your hair
Requires a small amount, so the product will last long
Perfect for all hair types and weather conditions

Cons: None

Verdict: This amazing product not only leaves your hair feeling soft and shiny, but also makes it perfect for experimenting with different hairstyles. Say goodbye to oily, heavy hair that leaves you with no option but to tie it up in a bun. This product comes to your rescue and stays true to almost everything that it promises. Its perfect for my hair and keeps it in control, especially in this confused. I highly recommend the Kérastase Beautifying Oil Cream. Give it a try!

The Must Try List | July 2015

$

July is here and we are back with yet another edition of The Must Try List! From gorgeous make up products to stunning shoes, entertaining cinema to the best of monsoon fashion, we have got it all covered for you. While you may end up getting the best bargain during the ongoing sale season, a few products here may force you to make some extra space in the wardrobe (or the vanity shelf, shoe rack).

Must Use - MAC Lightful
The science of skincare meets the beauty of makeup. One of the products that tops our Must Try list this month is M·A·C’s latest Lightful2-in-1 with radiance booster tinted serum, a creation that comes packaged in a modern dual-chamber bottle. Now what's amazing is that this bottle holds two potent formulas – a hi-tech treatment serum and an incandescent tint. Use the lightweight and translucent gel-like serum all over the face at night to curb hyper pigmentation, and the tinted serum during the day to continue the brightening effects. All this, while instantly helping even out the skin tone and
adding luminosity. When hear that when this 2-in-1 treatment is used together, the two formulas target a multitude of skin concerns, from dark spots and dehydration to
uneven skin tone/texture. The product will be available in 5 shades (tint) and is priced at Rs 2700. Sounds good to us and we can't wait to test it already!

Must Have - Nike Zoom Air
Now this is one pair of shoes that every running fanatic (including us) can't stop eyeing. Nike recently launched the all new Nike Zoom Air and the stunning color combination has already left us drooling.  Zoom Air - the fastest, most responsive cushioning platform Nike has ever delivered - has the power to change a lot of things that an athlete can feel about his gear. The lightest of the Zoom training family, the Air zoom is a minimalist streamlined propulsion device designed for athletes, who want to stay fast and light on their feet in training or competition. Forefoot Zoom Air gives runners a snappy response off the road. The lowered offset (eight millimeters) puts runners closer to the ground for more control, and a sleek upper combines Nike Flywire technology,
no-sew overlays and lightweight mesh for a supportive, breathable fit. In short, the Nike Zoom Air is all you need to get going on the running track like a pro! Priced at Rs 8995, the Nike Zoom Air is now available at select Nike retail stores.

Must Buy - Lakmé Absolute Gloss Artist
Who doesn't love a good, smudge-free eyeliner, that is perfect for the monsoons? Well, here comes Lakmé's all new Absolute Gloss Artist to your rescue. The Lakmé Absolute Gloss Artist, that comes in a gorgeous, dark black shade, promises to deliver a high-definition shine that will last all the day, without smudging. Its compact packaging (which has always been a plus point for Lakmé products) makes it easy to carry. But wait, there is more to it than what meets the eye. This vinyl eye-liner comes with a felt-tip brush, that makes application extremely easy and smooth. Get ready to turn artist and make your eyes the canvas, while you experiment with winged, retro or just simple bold lines. Priced at Rs 600, we certainly think Lakmé has got another winner here!

Must Wear - Rain Jackets by Wildcraft
Everybody is busy stocking up on Umbrellas, Rain coats, windcheaters and more. While most folks are done buying rain essentials, if you are someone who is still looking for funky, colorful yet comfortable and wearable options, then check out Wildcraft's monsoon collection, which is filled with a varied styles of rain wear. Choose from ponchos, rain jackets, rain coats and rain pants in fun colors. Light weight and packable, the rain jackets from this collection are a boon to those, who are tired of  carrying heavy umbrellas. The collection also includes a Pro-rain range, where the jackets are made up of dry-vent technology and has superior water resistant of up to 5000 mm. Items from the collection are priced at Rs 995 onwards.

Must Watch - Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Minions
There is a similarity between the two films (apart from the fact that both are releasing in the same month). Well, almost everyone loves the Minions and Bhaijaan aka Salman. While Bajrangi Bhaijaan marks the return of Salman Khan on the screen a year after his Eid blockbuster Kick, Illumination Entertainment's Minions is a prequel to the super hit Despicable Me series. Looking at the recent events that Khan went through and the fact that the film is a Holiday release, trade pundits have already predicted a 100 crore+ opening for the film. As for the yellow pill like creatures, it is said that they are eyeing a good $100 million debut. Well, it certainly looks like the month of July is gonna be one helluva blockbuster month.

Lust List -  Sonny Air Force denim culottes by Stella McCartney
Almost every girl is going gaga over culottes this season, and what better than a pair of denim culottes? Mixing two big trends into one, the Sonny Air Force denim culotte is a versatile piece of apparel, that will go well with even the most basic tank top. With subtle embroidery on the back pockets and a comfortable fit, these culottes are definitely topping our lust list this month.
PS: For those who don't mind splurging, matchesfashion.com is offering a neat 30 % off on these denim culottes. Was Rs 34,730 | Now Rs 24,295. Go buy em before stocks finish up!

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask | Review

$

The Body Shop recently celebrated 9 years of its existence. For a brand that is well loved by beauty enthusiasts and environment lovers alike, The Body Shop has always surprised us with their range of products that smell absolutely fantastic and are made up of all things natural. This time, our team was introduced to their all new Drops of Youth range and after knowing all about the collection, Team Dancebee was quite excited to know more about the Bouncy Sleeping Mask, which is also a part of the range. I guess it was the name, or maybe the ingredients and claims, that got us hooked on to it. We tried the product for a month and the result is here! Read on to know what this mask is all about.

What? The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask
Quantity: 90ml
Price: Rs 2295/-

What does it promise? Refreshing, bouncy cream-gel leave-on mask containing cell-renewing Edelweiss stem cells. Overnight, moisturises and replenishes for youthful-looking skin which feels - Bouncier, Smoother, Refreshed, Recharged and Renewed.

How to use? Smooth onto face before bed either alone or after Drops of Youth™ Concentrate (or your regular CTM routine), and allow to sink in overnight. Do not wash off. For best results, follow the Bouncy Massage Technique -- 1. Over The Rainbow Hands on forehead and arch out over the eyes to temples 2. Under The Clouds Massage under the eyes out towards the side of the ears 3. Quenching The Earth Massage outward with palms of hands, across the cheeks to the ears 4. Under The Sea Use sweeping upwards movements from the décolletage up the neck 5. Pitter Patter Use finger tips to lightly tap across the forehead (watch the video here).

Packaging: The product comes housed in a beautiful (and heavy) glass jar, which is placed inside a box. This glass jar holds the creamy texture of the mask very well. Inside the box, you will also find a small spatula, which is a boon, since it is impossible to measure the mask perfectly with one's finger before application. Since the glass jar is heavy, the packaging is not travel friendly.

Texture: The cream-gel texture feels very, very soft and bouncy (Yes! It does have that bouncy texture when you take some in your hand using the spatula). As you can see, the product is pure white in color.

Overall Experience: During the test period, I continued with my regular night skincare routine, and used the mask as the last product before sleeping. That's how it is supposed to be when it comes to sleeping masks, which has to be left overnight. Since I have sensitive (combination) skin, I did not skip my moisturizer, which those with oily skin may have to do (thanks to the rich texture of the product). The product was massaged well using the 5 step bouncy massage technique and within minutes, I could feel how the product had started working from within. The massage techniques help (though I wish someone could do it for me, especially on days filled with truck loads of work) and adds a touch of relaxation. Add a cup of chamomile tea or hot chocolate to your bed time routine and trust me, the whole process will make you fall asleep within minutes.
Coming back to the mask; just a little bit of the product is enough for application. You don't need to lather on several spoonfuls and end up looking like a white ghost. Post application, the mask does not leave a layer. Instead (on my skin), it got absorbed very well and left a lovely sheen. The fragrance is lovely, filled with herbal and natural tones. It lingers around for quite sometime post application. The next morning, I washed my face with plain water and my skin felt quite refreshed. Though overtime, the difference could be felt more, with my skin feeling quite hydrated and supple. But that's it! Nothing more than that. So in a way, it does work according to its claim, but don't expect miraculous changes, especially for those with specific concerns. The product is like a night face charger, which does a good job of leaving your skin feeling refreshed.

Pros: Rich texture
Perfect for those with dry skin that needs hydration
The fragrance and application soothes your senses and leaves you feeling relaxed
Hydrates and replenishes your skin overnight
True to its claim, refreshes your skin in the morning

Cons: The packaging is not travel friendly
Not suitable for those with extremely oily skin
Do not get confused by the use of the word 'Youth' in the product name. This is not an anti-ageing mask.

Verdict: For those with super oily skin or specific concerns, we suggest you give it a miss. But, if you have dry or combination skin and have been looking for a good sleeping mask, then this is definitely a must try,. Make sure you massage the product well and follow your regular night skincare routine. The result? Wake up to well hydrated, supple skin everyday.

Starting this July, we are excited to bring an all new monthly Celebrity Guest Feature as part of our fitness section. Our guest feature writer is none other than an extremely popular and respected Indian Holistic Health Guru. Yes, we are talking about none other than the leading expert with over more than 25 years of experience in the field of fitness - Mickey Mehta. The renowned health guru has a huge list of celebrity clients who swear by his teaching which includes Priyanka Chopra, Priety Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Smriti Irani and many more. A philosopher, life coach, an author and a fitness guru, Mickey Mehta has revolutionized health with his philosophies of zen, tao, tantra and ved, and blended the disciplines of exercises such as calisthenics, functional training, boot camp, agility drills, tai chi, pilates, yoga and swimming.
We are extremely delighted to have Mickey Mehta on board as the Celebrity Guest Writer, who will be providing fitness tips and answering reader queries every month on Diary of a Dancebee. This month, we got the Health Guru to talk about beneficial Monsoon Workouts

A splash of cool rain drop on your face no doubt brings in a sense of relief from the scorching summer heat and makes you swoon with joy. It is a season to rejoice and enjoy the beauty bestowed by the rain God on mother earth. But this season tends to be the most difficult one for the fitness addicts. Unlike other seasons, during Monsoon, it not only becomes quite difficult to step out on rainy days but it also gets tough to cater to ones fitness needs. In this month's feature, I have put together some great exercises, especially for the ongoing monsoon season, that one can practice at home, without taking the trouble of traveling on rainy days.

JOG ON THE SPOT:
An indoor jog on the spot or around a house jog serves as a great warm up exercise and can be extremely beneficial. This is one important way to shed off the extra fat.

PUSH UPS:
Push ups serve as a complete body exercise and can be easily modified in order to make it more challenging for your body. Sometimes, even the most avid exerciser can find several reps of this exercise tough. For fitness enthusiasts who feel that a regular push up is too easy for you, try the Single Leg Push Up.

BURPEES:
One of the best exercises during monsoon is Burpees. This exercise serves as an intense, full body workout, and helps burn tons of calories. Burpees helps in increasing the metabolism rate as well. They are ideal for developing conditioning and endurance.

JUMPING LUNGES:
Lunges serve as an excellent thigh toning exercise. Add to that, jumps between these lunges and the entire exercise form - Jumping Lunges - turns into an incredible calorie burner. It also helps keep your legs toned and fit.

CLIMBING STAIRS:
The stairs in your building (home or office) serve as a superb exercising device by themselves. Walking up and down the stairs in between work is absolutely perfect for those who spent hours in front of the computer.

JUMP SQUATS:
Do a regular squat, then jump as powerfully as you can (reach up for the ceiling or sky). Jump Squats  not only help in burning more calories, but also helps keep your legs fit and pushes you to challenge yourself for more.

 JUMP ROPE
Jump roping is an amazing and simple workout option. There is no end to the tricks and variations you can do with a jump rope. Not only jump rope is a good exercise, but it also helps you work on co-ordination and balancing your body. Jump roping burns a lot of calories and is also the cheapest form of exercise. No frills! Just a jump rope in your hand and you are good to go.

JUMPING JACKS:
Jumping jack is a structural workout. It is a full body workout and strengthens your core muscle very well. It also serves as a good warm up exercise. It is an effective exercise for the joints and also helps strengthen them.

YOGA:
Practicing Yoga on a regular basis is a must. Yoga is an incredible form of exercise that can be performed both indoors and outdoors. Select an airy, clean spot in your house, bring out your Yoga mat and practice simple asanas to keep yourself fit. Start with the basics like Pranayam, and slowly, move on to asanas like the Surya Namaskar. Yoga also helps diminish respiratory problems that are very common during the monsoon season.

DANCING:
Everybody loves dancing. And if you are someone who swears by it, then dance like no one's watching. Dance is an incredible form of exercise, who not only helps keep you fit, but also makes your body more flexible and free. Choose your favorite music and dance genre, and burn calories without having to worry about hitting the gym on a rainy day.

Make fitness and wellness a part of your daily lifestyle. A dash of discipline, good food habits, regular exercises, combined with adequate sleep, rest and relaxation and a graceful attitude will surely get you rejuvenated, revitalized and Mickeymized this Monsoon!

Monsoon Makeover & Contest | Juice Salon

$

Usually, I opt for a haircut only twice a year (April & September). And if I want the length of my hair to grow well, I will only opt for occasional trims and trust my stylist to add some magic by tweaking the hairstyle a bit. Oh! And I can be very fussy when it comes to choosing the right hair stylist. I have had the same stylist for years now and honestly, I get very skeptical when it comes to any form of hair makeovers with other stylists. So, when Juice Salon approached me to get a fun monsoon makeover, I wasn't too sure about it. But my team (especially Dhwanika, who takes care of Administration) kept insisting that I just get a little change of style. Eventually, I gave into their demands and agreed to get a mini monsoon makeover with Juice Salon. Now that my stylist is traveling for a month with a film crew, it was the right time for me to review the services at Juice (I have always loved the LYN and French pedicure here).
Oh! And we also have an exciting contest waiting for you at the end of this post.

The folks at Juice (Khar) had booked my appointment with their stylist Ronnie, who was extremely warm and a great listener. Minutes after exchanging hugs and greetings, we got down to work. Ronnie began by understanding my lifestyle and how I wear my hair (I mostly leave it open, except during workouts, run and dance rehearsals). Then, she began the 3-step hair inspection, when included inspecting the scalp, hair texture and checking for hair issues, if any. Currently, I am facing the same problem as most Mumbaikars - major residue build up due to the heat and humidity. Plus, if my workout hours increase, the residue builds up all the more. Ronnie took all the details into consideration and informed that I had a normal scalp and well maintained hair. She added that with a small change of style (I told her that I didn't want to cut off the length), she will chop off the dead ends and ensure that my hair looks healthy. Well, that's all I wanted and with that, we started off with the hair wash and conditioning process. Since she knew about my hectic lifestyle, Ronnie ensured that she adds a 10 minute long massage during the conditioning process. It was perfect, since I had a long working day.

After the wash, Ronnie began by getting rid of the dead ends and once done, she started work on getting the front layers right. Then, she moved on to the side bangs and within minutes, my mini makeover was done. Ronnie asked if I wanted any particular look (curls, straight) and I asked her to keep it simple and sleek. And there you go! A quick blowdry, leave-in serum and my new monsoon hairstyle was ready. Ronnie loved how the side bangs looked on me and said, "Next time, you should get fringes done in the front. You will look adorable." Well, maybe, I will give that a try in the future for sure.

Service Experience: The services offered at Juice are quite good, with the stylists and staff that are well trained. The ambiance of Khar salon is really good. Tucked away in a quite lane, there is no sign of hustle-bustle. The salon is big and not very noise, even on weekends (a big boon). They stock up on professional L'Oreal and Kerastase products. They also offer exclusive hair spa treatments, which can be recommended after a detailed consultation with the in-house expert. As far as the haircuts are concerned, it is extremely important for a hair stylist to understand your lifestyle, needs and after examining your hair, give you tips on how you can improve the texture of your hair. Even while cutting / trimming, a good hairstylist will always inform you about the step-by-step process and keep you updated about the length that they are about to cut off. Ronnie did all that and much more, as she took great care of me and ensured that I have a relaxing experience, even during a haircut. The support staff is also very alert and humble. I also noticed that a lot of customers return back for their haircut and hair color services with their favorite stylist, which is proof of their long list of loyal customers.

Pros: Great staff
Good ambiance
Value for money
Good services

Cons: If you do not live in Bandra/Khar or the nearby areas,
locating the salon can be quite a task. Keep Google Maps handy.

Verdict: A must visit for those who believe in spending the right amount of money on quality services. Recommended services - Haircut, Hair color, LYN Manicure & Pedicure.

Skin Talks | How To Control Sensitive Skin

$
0
0
Lately, I have realized that a lot of our blog readers, and people that I meet at events and meetings, often complain about sensitive skin. Sounds like a familiar term? Well, it sure does to me, because I have extremely sensitive skin, that reacts to a wrong product very easily. Even something simple like change of weather or temperature can cause havoc. And I am quite sure most of you have been facing similar problems, and have already consulted their dermatologists for tips. While it is necessary for everyone to get their skin checked and make sure that they are following the do's and don'ts, those with sensitive skin need to be extra cautious. A simple checklist can do wonders, while ensuring that you buy the right products, follow a few rules and don't go bonkers during the next sale at your favorite beauty or skincare store. We have compiled a list, that has been created after taking inputs from a few dermatologists, self experience and tips from a few others. Here are a few things that can help control sensitive skin and stop reactions.

Golden Rule: The first and most important rule: Never buy a product that does not match your skin type or is not suitable for the concerns that you have been facing. You might just end up aggravating the concern. Sensitive skin can be calmed and controlled through the right set of products and a proper skincare routine. Do not jump to buy a particular product, just because your best friend has been raving about it.

The Product Testing Process: In case you are eager to try a new launch by your favorite brand, that promises to keep your skin calm and is perfect for sensitive skin, do a patch test before buying the product (do this for everything that you buy). You never know which ingredient in a product may just react and this test never fails. Do not test the product directly on your cheek. Try it behind your ear or the elbow area, and wait for at least 48 hours to check whether the product reacts or not. If there is any sign - redness/pinkness, flakiness, dry patch among others - do not buy! But if the cream passes this test, you can opt for another round of test by trying it on a tiny corner of your face and if it passes this test too, buy it. Remember, never be in a haste to buy skincare products. It is an apparel or accessory that can be tried on in one go and zoom, you are at the billing counter. Try a few samples (leading brands like Kiehl's will help you with samples on demand), follow the two tests and then, make a choice. Give it a good enough 3-4 days. You don't wanna take a chance with your skin, do you?

•  Inspection: While zeroing down on products during the testing stage, ensure that you check all the ingredients properly. You are investing in your skincare, so its always useful to invest some extra time for research. If you see any ingredient that matches something that was also used in your previous product that caused a reaction, strike it off your list.

Simple Routine: Keep your skincare routine simple. This is one formula that I swear by, especially since my skin is also prone to acne and even redness during the summer to monsoon transition. A cocktail of products may just eventually lead to your skin getting exposed to an ingredient that may trigger a reaction.

Ban Toxic Materials: We try our best to prevent touching the face with our hands, but in vain. But if you have got a fresh manicure with nail enamel done, then keep your fingers away from sensitive skin. Most nail enamels contain toxic ingredients like Formaldehyde, dibutyle phthalate (DBP), Toluene among others. Since we often touch our face, these ingredients can trigger reactions. Fortunately, brands like Chanel, Zoya, Kure Bazaar among others are have toxic-free nail enamels, that are your best bet.

•  Drink up!: Nothing better than drinking oodles of water. Get those aerated drinks out of your diet. Opt for flavored water (add mint, lemon and cucumber) or even coconut water. But, ensure that you drink up at least 8-9 glasses of water a day. Drink up enough water regularly and the result? Well hydrated skin, that can keep most concerns at bay. It can also help heal dry cracks and patches on your skin (body or face).

  •  Keep calm: With the kind of lifestyle that we all live, a small break comes as a big boon. Use it to meditate, travel, listen to music, book a spa session or just get involved in activities that make you feel happy and relaxed from within. Sometimes, inner stress and angst can show on your face (in my case, it definitely does). For those with non-stop assignments, opt for 'stress buster minutes' in between work, by simply closing your eyes for 5 mins and letting everything go. Oh, and please make sure you get adequate sleep!

Make sure that follow these simple steps. But don't forget, you must continue to consult a dermatologist. It is absolutely necessary for you to understand the root cause of a concern that has stayed on for long. Treat it, heal it and Stay beautiful!

I have got stories ready for the next 25 years - Amish Tripathi |Exclusive Interview

$

0
From working for a bank to becoming the only Indian author to get a record $1m advance for his trilogy, Amish Tripathi has surely come a long way. The author, who hails from a simple Pandit family and owes all his success to Lord Shiva's blessings, has got a huge fan base in several parts of the globe. All his books generate curiosity and excitement among his fans. We witnessed this enthusiasm during all the launch events of the Shiva trilogy and now, the phenomenon was repeated at the launch of his latest book, Scion of Ikshvaku (one and a half years in the making), which was launched with a record number of pre-orders last month.
Be it hitting the bulls eye with his perfect promotional strategy or setting an advanced goal of writing multiple series in the next 25 years, Amish is doing it all, but all this, while ensuring that he gives enough time to everything that he loves - reading, traveling and of course, his family. In a candid conversation with Priya Adivarekar, on a super busy Thursday morning, the Million Dollar author talks about Scion of Ikshvaku, life as a writer, spirituality and more.

If you had to describe the book - Scion of Ikshvaku - to someone who hasn't read it, how would you do it?
One way of looking at it is the fact that it is a thriller, and I admit many will read it just as that. The other way is the fact that there is a core philosophy behind all my books. Scion of Ikshvaku is no different. Like in the Shiva trilogy, the core philosophy was “What is evil?” Similarly, in this book, the core philosophy is “What is an ideal society?” So I guess, that would be the perfect way to describe the book.

After The Shiva Trilogy, did the idea of writing about Lord Ram come naturally to you or were there other concepts that you had in mind as well?
Well, I had many concepts in mind. In fact, all these concepts are somehow linked. Once you see all these concepts releasing in the form of books over the next 20-25 years (smiles), you can come back to the Shiva trilogy and notice how I have left clues and hints related to all the concepts. They are all linked.

So, is it true that the Ram Chandra series will have 5-6 books?
Absolutely! I have several series in my mind. All of them will tell the stories of the vedic people of our age, over a period of nine thousand years. These stories will explore their highs and lows, the beginning of their culture to the times when it was destroyed. Well, I just believe we are their unworthy descendants (smiles).

What was your reference for this particular book and subsequently, the series?
I have grown up listening to several versions of the Ramayana, thanks to my parents and the fact that my grandfather was a Pandit. That was one source. Secondly, I read a lot. So, I have read some versions of the Ramayana as well, one of them being the Ramcharitmanas, which is widely read and well known among the North Indians (and was also a reference for the popular 1980’s Indian show – Ramayan – by Ramanand Sagar). I have also read the Valmiki Ramayan, Kambaramayanam, Adhbhuta Ramayan among several others.

You are known to be someone who is actively involved with the promotional strategy of your books. Do you add your inputs during the conceptualizing stage?
Of course I do! I have always been closely involved. There is a core team, which apart from my wife and I, also includes the senior staff at Westland and our agency partner.

Apart from the exclusive promotional activities organized with Amazon (Midnight delivery, Kindle – Exclusive chapter launch), what else is on the cards?
Our partnership with Amazon has been wonderful and apart from the above mentioned concepts, they also brought out prominent advertisements and developed great buzz on social media. Yes, we have already planned several marketing ideas for the next couple of months. We had a few celebrity launch events and during the Mumbai launch, we also had an exclusive drum circle, where even I played the drums. There is also an activity with Kotak Bank called ‘Tweet to Purchase’, where the bank customers can tweet and purchase the Scion of Ikshvaku through their Twitter banking facility. From what I think, this is the first time something like this is being done.

As a writer, what is a typical day in the life of Amish Tripathi like?
My day starts at around 5:30 am. I start off with an exercise, and then I do my pooja. I read four newspapers every morning. During my writing phase, I get down to work and start writing at around 9 am. I don’t focus on any form of marketing or interactions during the writing period. Right now, it’s my marketing phase, so all my attention and energies are focused on that.

Every writer has special way of unwinding or a stress buster that keeps writer’s block at bay. How do you unwind while writing?
To be honest, I guess I have been lucky and have been blessed by Lord Shiva, because I never really suffered from writer’s block. But then, there are several other sources of stress in life. For me, listening to music, spending time with family, traveling and reading are the best stress busters.

How often do you read? And what are you currently hooked on to?
I read anywhere between 4-8 books every month. Primarily, I read a lot of non-fiction. But around 10 – 20 per cent of my reading is dedicated to fiction. Recently,  I finished reading Bhima by M.T. Vasudevan Nair, an English translation of the popular Malayalam classic. Next on the reading list is Flood of Fire by Amitav Ghosh.

What does spirituality mean to you?
Spirituality is essentially a search for the divine in your life. This is a search that everyone should undertake. And for me, divine is the god within.

Back in time, was there any moment or period where you thought your work will get the kind of tremendous success that is eventually did?
Not at all! In fact, I didn't even know if my books will get published (smiles). Everything that has happened is way beyond my expectations.

Was it the success and response from fans that eventually led you to taking the plunge and quitting your job?
I know it sounds boring, but then, I don’t come from a very wealthy family. I have grown up in a humble family, so one has to be responsible when it comes to taking any career decisions. But eventually, the decision was primarily taken on a logical and rational basis. I wrote my first two books while I was still working. So, I was burning the candle at night and then, reporting to work in the day. By the third book, my loyalty cheque had become more than my salary. That’s when my elder brother and wife spoke to me, stating that it is rational for me to resign and focus on my writing career. And that’s how I took the plunge.

#AskAmish Twitter Fan Questions

Amish: I write all my books the way they come to me. Honestly, I don't control the process.  It was the same with Shiva Trilogy, where I wrote Lord Shiva's character the way he came to me and not out of any conscious choices. So, that's the first aspect. Secondly, Lord Ram has been depicted in many ways. As I mentioned earlier, the version that most modern North Indians read is actually the version of the 1980's tele-series. If you read the Jain version of Ramayan, which is an extremely old version, Lord Ram is completely non-violent.

Amish: Yes, I have been approached for quite a few projects, but I haven't considered any offer as of yet. I am very clear that the core activities that I do and will always continue to do is writing books. So, if I can find some way to write scripts, without affecting the time that I utilize to write my books, I'll probably do that. But, it will never be at the cost of my books. My main focus will always be books - that is one thing I have always been clear about.

Amish: Of course, I do have the Maharabharata story in my mind. And as mentioned earlier, I will be writing all those stories in the coming years.

*interview continues*

Which means, you will be keeping your readers busy for the next 25 years. That's impressive!
Well, I hope they keep me busy and continue to read, buy my books. Otherwise I'll have to go back to banking (laughs).

Has there been any update on the Immortals of Meluha film adaptation?
Well, originally only The Immortals of Meluha was part of the contract. But now, the entire trilogy is a part of the contract, the right of which are with Dharma Productions. The trilogy will be adapted into a series of films and will be directed by Karan Malhotra. Karan and his wife Ekta are writing the script. My role is that of a creative consultant. I have explained the world and concept to them. I am not involved with the project in any other way.

It's been quite a busy year, with all the pre and post book release promotions and other work. Are you taking some time off for a vacation anytime soon?
I always take time out for a vacation. My wife and I love traveling, so we make sure that we include 1-2 foreign trips every year and at least 4-5 domestic holidays. Earlier, we would back pack while traveling. But now that we have a kid, comfortable traveling is a must. Recently, we traveled to Kenya for a wildlife safari vacation. We had a great experience, with some wonderful memorable moments. In fact, once there was a cheetah who climbed up on our jeep. It was a jeep that we had hired, where only my family (Amish, his wife and son) and the guide / driver were seated. The cheetah was at a distance where we could literally touch him, and well, there was no glass in between either. That was a divine experience!

What’s the rest of 2015 going to be like for you?
I need to start writing now (smiles). Well, I need to start work on the next book, which I will once all the promotional work for Scion of Ikshvaku is done. There are a few visits and tours left. So, I'll probably start writing the second book in a month or two.

Film Review | Drishyam

When it comes to versatility, Ajay Devgn is one of the few actors whose name immediately comes to mind. Right from comedy to action, romance and drama; the actor has done justice to almost every genre. And this time, he chose a thriller to win the hearts of his fans. When reports of Drishyam's Hindi remake broke out and the final cast, crew details were revealed, people were curious to see if the film can do justice to the original Malayalam film that starred Mohanlal, or even to the later remakes that saw Venkatesh (Drushyam in Telugu) and Kamal Hassan (Papanasam in Tamil) in the lead. For someone who hasn't seen any of the above mentioned films, I was looking forward to Devgn's Drishyam already. After all, it had Nishikant Kamat taking over as the captain of the ship, the same man who gave us Mumbai Meri Jaan (gem of a film). The trailer increased my excitement around the film, and my expectations soared. Fortunately for me, the film does live up it all, and much more.

While several members of the audience (at the press show) knew the plot and kept comparing the film with previous adaptations and the original film, I was hooked on till the end credits unfolded. Drishyam is a drama - thriller that is based on the theory - what we see is not always the truth. The Salgaonkar family - Vijay (Ajay Devgn), Nandini (Shriya Saran) and their daughters (Ishita Dutta and Mrinal Jadhav) - are living a happy and peaceful life in a quiet village on the Goa - Maharashtra border, until one incident changes their life forever. Vijay's elder daughter (Dutta) heads out for a nature trip with students from other schools, where she comes across Sam, who is introduced as the son of a high profile personality. One freak incident leads to another, and the Salgaonkar family falls in to deep trouble due to Sam. What makes matters worse is the fact that Sam turns out to be the son of Inspector General Meera Deshmukh (Tabu), who along with Inspector Gaitonde (Kamlesh Sawant) leaves no stone unturned to prove that the Salgaonkars are responsible for her son's mysterious disappearance. The sequences that follow will both blow your mind and leave you on edge of the seat, right till the end.

Nishkant Kamat has done a great job of handling a thriller and has kept it simple on the presentation front. He does not indulge in unnecessary graphics or loud background score for thrills. The direction is flawless, with almost zero loopholes, which is a must for a thriller like this. While the first half is where you get familiar with the characters, it is in the second half when the plot thickens and nail biting moments await. A word for the excellent choice of locations, which is like a breathe of fresh air. The film is entirely shot in Goa and parts of Ratnagiri, and Avinash Arun's cinematography does complete justice to the beautiful locations. The editing is crisp, which is crucial for films of this genre. The background score is good, and so are the dialogues (Upendra Sidhaye), which are lucid and to the point. Upendra Sidhaye's screenplay is excellent and has been adapted brilliantly (originally written by Jeethu Joseph) . That is well expected from a writer who has earlier won accolades for his work in Mumbai Meri Jaan. A word to the casting director, who gets every character right and has done a great job of getting together an excellent cast, that have delivered natural performances.

As far as the performances are concerned, both Ajay Devgn and Tabu make an impact with their power house performances. While Devgn's expressions and perfect dialogue delivery makes you relate to his Vijay Salgaonkar, Tabu's portrayal of Meera Deshmukh has the right attitude and angst. Performance after performance, Tabu has proved why she is one of the best female actors in the Hindi film industry and her act in Drishyam is no different. But if there is anyone apart from these two who steals the show, it is Kamlesh Sawant's excellent portrayal of Gaitonde. He plays it with such perfection, that you will leave the cinema hall hating him to the core. The thirst for revenge in his eyes can be seen throughout the film, and Sawant has delivered a performance that will be remembered for long. Shriya Saran's portrayal of Nandini is good, as she plays her part of a meek yet mentally strong housewife pretty well. Ishita Dutta makes an impressive debut as Devgn's elder daughter in the film and emotes well. Rest of the cast that includes Rajat Kapoor, and other actors who play the roles of Uncle Martin, Prabhu sir, Sam (the boy who is often seen in a sprite commercial, plays the baddie here, and he almost makes you feel like slapping him) among others have all done a good job. A special mention of the little Mrinal Jadhav, who left me spellbound with her incredible act. This young girl is such a natural. She has the power to move you with her adorable presence. In fact, I almost shed a tear or two during a pivotal scene, which involved her. Surely, kids these days are taking their job seriously and are going beyond being just cute. Child actors like Mrinal and Harshaali are proof. Well done, girls!

Verdict: Overall, Drishyam is one power packed film that has got everything right. Be it Nishikant Kamat's direction, the cast's incredible performance or the perfect technical aspect, they have nailed it in every department. It is certainly one of the best Hindi films of the thriller genre that I have seen in recent times. It may not be your regular, entertaining commercial fare, but Drishyam has got everything that a good film should - drama, suspense, action, thrills, humor and above all - an excellent plot. Don't miss it for anything this weekend. A must watch!

I don't believe in the luck factor - Jacqueline Fernandez | Exclusive Interview

Jacqueline Fernandez is on a roll, and there is no looking back for the actress, who is busy working with the best of directors and male actors in her upcoming projects. From winning hearts with her gorgeous avatar in Kick, to getting appreciation for her double role in Roy; Jacqueline has entered the big league with great style. The birthday girl, who enters a new phase in life today as she turns 30, is quite excited about her next release, Brothers, which hits the screens this week. Despite back-to-back promotions and city tours, the actress looked radiant and calm, and admitted that although the schedule is crazy, she is loving every moment of it. We caught up with Jacqueline for a late morning chat at the Dharma office last week, where apart from discussing beauty and green tea (Yes! We couldn't stop talking about The Body Shop's Fuji Green Tea scrub), we spoke to her about films, brand endorsements, life as an actor and more.

You are one of the most sought after female actors in the industry today. How does that feel?
It’s like a blessing in disguise. Being in the Top 3 or even in the Top 10 is a huge thing, because I have worked very hard to reach where I am today. Now, it’s time to work harder and achieve many more things.

You have two back-to-back releases, with Bangistan and Brothers. How excited or nervous are you?
I don't get pressurised or feel nervous anymore. I used to, a few years back. When Aladdin and Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hain released, I was very nervous. But then, I realised that there is no point in feeling the pressure, because the film will eventually release and perform the way it has to. As an actor, you have done what you have to. In fact, I am very excited about these two films, as they are both different and give out a message. The very fact that I am a part of such films keeps me happy. I am a harsh critic of myself, so I learn from my mistakes, soak in the experiences and then, move on to new projects. Plus, Bangistan was more like a special appearance.

What’s your character in the film Brothers like?
Brothers is a very special film, especially because this is my first Dharma film. I didn't think this would be the kind of Dharma film that would be my debut, as my role is very different and is something that I haven’t tried before. I play Jenny Fernandez, who is the wife of David Fernandez (Akshay Kumar). In fact, I would keep telling Akshay that you guys are ankle Fernandez, and I am the asli one (laughs). Well, in the film, ours is a happy family and we have a six-year-old daughter. All of a sudden, our daughter becomes very ill and we don’t have enough many to pay for her treatment. That’s where things take a turn. You will have to watch the film to know more (smiles). Jenny is definitely one of my most challenging roles till date and Karan (Malhotra) helped me a lot with understanding my character. He is very strong and strict. He made us do a lot of retakes, until I got the emotions and expressions right in a scene.

How was it working with Akshay Kumar, after Housefull 2, although the two of you were not paired together in the film?
Yeah, Brothers is the first time I have worked opposite Akshay. I have always known and seen Akshay in comedy films, and even Housefull was like that. But in Brothers, he is all serious, which I was not used to. In most parts of the film, I am all sad and crying. Both of us are with our child and its a serious situation. But, Akshay has a great disconnect. He can be all serious and emotional in a character, and the moment you say ‘Cut’, he will be back to “Hey! Kya haal hain? Bhook lagi hain yaar.” So, that was a great learning experience for me. On days when I have heavy scenes to film, where I am all emotional and crying, thinking “Glycerin lagana hain, rona hain,” I would feel exhausted. I used to go back home with a headache and feel very heavy, drained out the entire day. The same happened even during the dubbing. But Akshay is a pro at it! He has an amazing energy and just like other superstars, he approaches every film like its his first. At least, that's the feeling that I get. He wakes up early, never gets tired, and fits in a hundred things in one single day. There is so much to learn from him.

Any memorable incident while you were shooting for the film?
Many! But we had great fun filming the climax. It was shot over a period of 50 days and all I had to do was stand in the crowd, with a placard bearing David's name. That's what I kept doing over and over again (laughs). During one shot, Akshay changed the placard and gave me the one bearing Monty's (Sidharth Malhotra) name. It took some time for me to realise that I was holding the wrong placard and ultimately, I had to get the right one and shoot the scene again. It was fun! There were these little, fun pranks that kept happening, turning the otherwise emotional atmosphere into a fun-loving, light hearted one. Its like a good relief for the entire cast and crew in between gruelling schedules.

Were you comfortable playing a mother at an early stage of your career?
Absolutely! In the end, I am an actress and in this profession, one has to show the kind of range they have got. You have to be able to tap into different kinds of roles and genres. If you keep doing the same kind of roles, over and over again, then what is the joy of being an actor? Honestly, I was thinking the same thing and was a little skeptical. Questions like - “Should I play a mother? What will happen to my career? Will this jeopardise anything? Will this set something in the audience’s perception?” - kept popping up in my mind. But, when you actually take on these roles, the beauty of it is the fact that you can show the audience your versatility. Like I play a mother in Brothers, but in Dishoom, I turn into this cool tomboy and then in Flying Jat, I turn into this fun dancer. So its fun to show different avatars of yourself in films and that’s what keeps it interesting for me as an actor. When you look at your portfolio, it feels amazing to know that one has done this, that and everything.

You have always taken the versatile route, opting for different characters and genres. But as an actor, how easy or difficult is it for you to disconnect from one character and step into another one, almost around the same time?
Earlier, I used to think that an actor can just snap in, snap out and its not a big deal. But honestly, it is very difficult. Like in Dishoom, my character is rebellious and a complete spoilt brat. She is this girl on the run, who is extremely blunt and not afraid of anything. When I started working on Dishoom after Brothers, where I was playing a mother with a sick child, it wasn't easy. I kept telling myself - Okay! I need to get out of my old avatar and do this. Then after shooting a few days for Dishoom, I started filming Flying Jat the very next day, where I had to be all bubbly and cute (laughs). I was like, “Oh my God! I need to get out of my rebellious side and be sweet here.” So, it does take time, but the constant practice of it has helped me a lot. An actor has to act, right? They are themselves behind the camera, but the moment they hear the word ‘Action’, you need to get rid of everything and become one with your character. Also, I have been able to work with different directors, actors and step into different characters with them, which helps.

During an earlier interview, Akshay stated that luck plays a major role, almost 65 per cent, in an actor's life. Do you believe in luck?
Nope! I believe that one has to work hard towards creating their own luck. I don't believe solely in the luck factor. I think that if one is not successful, then that person is not doing something right. The people who are in the top league have done everything to get there and a lot of hard work goes into this. One has to push themselves, sacrifice their sleep, and prove themselves to be noticed and reach on top. I personally don't believe that luck has anything to do with it.

What is it that you keep in mind before you come on board to endorse a brand or a certain range of products? For e.g you have always stood by the ethics of the brand, The Body Shop, which you are currently endorsing.
Honestly, I believe in taking things on, keeping in mind that I actually own the brand and use the product. That is extremely important, because I don't believe in selling anything to the public, which I don't use myself. So before I come on board, I always do a background research on the brand, because I am always very active with my brands. I like to get involved in activities, try things on and promote it. So, I won't promote something that I don't feel is right. With Puma, our idea of fitness matches well. The Body Shop is more than just a brand, as their products promote a lot of environmental wellbeing, and support causes like cruelty against animals, environmental awareness, community trade ingredients among others. All these things matter a lot, because its a responsibility. I don't want to be in a situation where I come to know that my brand has deceived the public. I will never represent such a brand. I will always endorse something that is known for its quality.

Tell us about the latest Fuji Green Tea range by The Body Shop, that you recently launched.
Oh! I am loving it. I am a huge fan of green tea and I drink it everyday. So, when I was told that I can also apply it on my body, I got so excited and was like - "Yay! I have got green tea for my skincare too." (laughs)

Which projects are you currently working on?
I am working on two films. I started shooting for Dishoom in July, which stars John Abraham and Varun Dhawan. Around the same time, I also started filming Flying Jat, where I am paired opposite Tiger Shroff. Next month, I will start shooting for Housefull 3 with Akshay Kumar. So, these 3 films will keep me busy this year

I have worked hard to reach where I am today - Katrina Kaif | Exclusive Interview

$

0
For someone who has made it to the top league all by herself, Katrina Kaif is not among the ones who would give up easily. She is constantly working hard to prove her critics wrong and with several blockbuster films in her kitty, Katrina is surely enjoying the last laugh. She is signed on by some of the best brands in the world, and recently made her debut at Cannes as a L'Oreal Paris ambassador. She is worshipped by millions of fans on social media, despite the fact that she does not have a single official account on any digital platform (except the Twitter account, which was created solely for her Cannes debut). Her love life has always been in the public eye, thanks to the fact that she is reportedly dating one of Bollywood's most loved heart throb - Ranbir Kapoor. But despite all this, Katrina's main goal has always been signing good films. She returns to the big screen almost after a year with Phantom, her third film with director Kabir Khan and second with actor Saif Ali after Race. Katrina is visibly excited, thanks to her challenging role in the film.
I met the actress on a Friday, when her schedule was super packed with multiple interviews, and a few shoots at Mehboob Studios. Eventually, our interview got delayed by a few hours and we finally settled down for a conversation at around 9:30 pm, when the two of us were visibly tired. Looking gorgeous as ever, dressed in a white shirt and brown pencil fit skirt, she politely apologised for the delay and made sure that I was comfortable. "Sorry to ruin your Friday night plans," she said. I smiled, thanking her for the kind gesture and replied, "No plans, actually! I am only looking forward to catching up on some sleep. Its been a long day." After a little chat and discussing how sleep is a much needed luxury, we finally got down to business - A tete-a-tete with Katrina, where she talks about Phantom, journey as an actor, why she hates the malicious reports about her love life, wedding and more.

Did you get a chance to watch any of the recently released films?
Oh yes! I saw Brothers and absolutely loved the film. Did you see Akshay and his incredible new look? I thought he was phenomenal. To look so fit and perform fantastic stunts at his age is commendable. I also got a chance to watch Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan recently. Baahubali made for a visual treat. I was so mesmerised with the visuals, that I didn't even realise when the film got over. Bajrangi.. left me feeling happy, because initially I was worried if Kabir would dilute his voice or lose the style that he is known for. We have done two films together and he is a very unique director. Like even in Ek Tha Tiger, Salman's look had a different edge to it. So, I was curious to see what Kabir has done in Bajrangi.. and was really surprised to see the final product. I think it shocked everyone. It was a wonderful film, and the girl (Harshaali) was really beautiful. Also, I think Salman has performed this way after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

So, do you think the success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan will give the right push to Phantom?
Absolutely! I agree. Plus, it will do well on its own as well, because as I said, Kabir has a unique approach towards all his films and he has got a very strong credibility. And while people believe that Phantom was pushed ahead due to Bajrangi... it is not true. There were a few delays and also, there came a point where either Bang Bang or Phantom could release. There is an unspoken rule where the film that goes on the floors first, should release first. So, although it was a tough, it was a complicated  decision and ultimately, we decided to give Phantom some more time in the post-production phase.

Are you slowly getting comfortable in the action space after films like Bang Bang and Dhoom 3?
Well, yes! But although Phantom has action, it is situational action, where you gotta face the enemies, run, jump and shoot. But its not the kind where you gotta build your physique in a certain way, which will help you look a certain part, like Akshay and Sidharth in Brothers. I am yet to fully try something like that. But, I guess I dabbled with a similar thing in Dhoom 3, where I tried my hand at acrobats in a few portions like songs like Malang and Kamli. Although it you guys saw it for a short time, a lot of training went into it.

Your look in Phantom is very raw and edgy.
Yeah! Plus, there is no focus on make up and hair like most hardcore action films. I would see my stylists in the morning and that's it, we would only meet later in the night. We just went for a messy hair do, because Kabir did not want me to look all glamorous. We would just use an occasional summa in the eye, you know, to just give it a visually different look. Its really not a film where the girl needs to think about her look. Also, I personally think that acting has nothing to do with your looks. Its not like if you see yourself in the mirror without make up, then you will get the part right. Its the connect that you have with your character, eventually. The overall appearance is just an added icing on the cake.

Do you think actresses today are less bothered about how they look on or off screen?
Yes, we are not in an age where people are only bothered about their looks and are constantly experimenting with make up, at least I am not. If you are like that, then its a foolish thing. You are what you are and you will ultimately look your age. Time doesn't wait for anyone, and if there is anyone, then its a foolish thing to follow. I have no problem playing any age or getting into a certain look on screen. If the script demands it, I will do it. You will see me do something different in Kal Jisne Dekha (tentative title). But its not like what the reports suggest (which say that she will be wearing prosthetics in the film). Nitya's approach is completely different and I was completely taken aback.

What do you think has been your biggest takeaway from the film (Phantom)?
Well, every film teaches you a lot and so has Phantom. It was a long and hard journey for all of us. The film was really tight since the scripting stage and we were all prepared since the time we came on board. From all the films that I have done with Kabir, this was one film where I saw him being extremely passionate about the story. The roots and base story required that kind of passion, and fortunately, we saw how even the producers supported the film wholeheartedly. They haven't left a single stone unturned to make sure that this film turns out well. So in a way, there was something to learn from everyone.

Do you think Kabir Khan is one director who has always tapped into your potential and portrayed the female characters on a large scale?
Absolutely! Kabir will always portray strong women characters, because that's how he sees women. A man will always write stronger roles for women, mostly depending on his own perception about women. Kabir sees women as independent, capable, strong minded and in equal means to any man. As far as tapping my potential is concerned, I think that varies from film to film. In New York, everything fell into place, while Ek Tha Tiger had other plus points and then Phantom was completely different experience. Also, Kabir will never offer me something forcefully, where I have to say yes immediately. Kabir has got a strong integrity about his work. I certainly think Kabir and I have a great understanding and working with him is always special.

Talking about third film with Ranbir, Jagga Jasoos, which is a highly anticipated project. Do you think your chemistry with him in the film will surpass what we saw in Rajneeti and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani?
(smiles) I can vouch for the fact that our chemistry will only be better than what you saw in the earlier films. And a lot will depend on how Jagga Jasoos turns out, because your chemistry will get appreciated only if the audience receives the film well. And that's exactly what Anurag Basu is trying to do. He has got a very different voice, and his style of film making is very unique, which is why the film is taking time. He is an artist, who has a bohemian approach and likes doing things according to his time. There were random reports of an argument between us, and they were all false. Everyone knows how sweet Anurag is, and even on the sets we would have a great time. It's like, I would say "Dada, I wanna go home," and he will be like, "Ya okay, go." One can talk, discuss and do everything when he is around, Dada is a free spirit. Instead of following rumours and reports, the audience should just wait and see Dada's world unfold on the big screen, once its ready for release.

You are working with Ranbir for the third time. How do you think the two of you have grown as actors?
I have grown by leaps and bounds. I don't know about Ranbir (smiles). See, he was always a superb actor. There are several other great actors, but I personally think that Ranbir is a great comic actor. He was brilliant in Ajab Prem... and the credit also goes to Raj Kumar Santoshi's excellent guidance. Even when I think about some of those dialogues today, I can't stop laughing. Also, people must remember that Ranbir came into this industry with a lot of training. A lot of people, including me, were not that lucky enough to get professional training before making a debut in Bollywood.

Ranbir went through a slightly rough phase professionally. With Tamasha creating a good buzz, what are your thoughts?
For an actor, its painful when your films aren't doing well. Every actor must go through a phase of ups and downs, because only then will you appreciate what you have. It helps you become a stronger person. I know Ranbir loves his fans and he breathes, lives cinema. No one can challenge that passion and commitment. These ups and downs have happened in almost every star's life, be it Shah Rukh, Salman or Aamir. I have complete confidence and belief that Tamasha will do extremely well and Ranbir will be amazing in it. I wish the team a lot of success and I am quite sure Ranbir will be back with a bang with this film.

How do you react to the reports about your private life, especially stories about you and Ranbir. Does it affect you?
I have got used to it. Its okay! As long as its not malicious and nasty, I am fine. As far as I can remember, it has happened to be 3-4 times, where the rumours and reports were very nasty. And yes, I have fought back. I am a human being, after all, and being nasty is not a very nice thing. There have been cases where journalists, whom I have known for years, would be nice to me during interviews and then turn around to pass malicious reports. I am not talking about random gossip, where news about me attending a birthday or dinner are floated around. These are the really bad ones, which can hurt an individual mentally. It has happened to me, and I was very disturbed. But for the most part, it doesn't matter to me, because the small reports like getting engaged on my birthday and stuff are harmless. Its sweet, but unfortunately, its not true (laughs). It's a little difficult for me to understand that why would anyone try to hide their engagement or a wonderful thing such as marriage. Nobody will do that, unless the person is extremely private, like Mr. Aditya Chopra may. Like I don't know when he got engaged. But that's not me or Ranbir. What is marriage after all? Beyond all the rituals, its a celebration of two people coming together. So, a celebration won't be a secret. I definitely want my wedding to be a big event. There is so no doubt about it. Its just not happening now. And I don't understand why people get so excited about an actor's wedding or why do they want a woman to get married off quickly? Are we trying to say that every woman's destiny is only to get married? I am tired of saying the same thing, but still, there will be false reports of us getting married. Its weird!

Are there any specific genres that you are looking at exploring in the future?
I think every actor wants to do a memorable role or film. Everyone is in search of that, and even I am in search of it everyday. But right now, my choices are only based on what interests and excites me. Fitoor is one film that really excited me, because I was in love with the script.

Any plans of making a official debut on Twitter, unlike the one you did exclusively for Cannes and L'Oreal Paris?
But when I go on Twitter, I need at least 13 - 14 million followers (laughs). If there are just a few lakhs, it means I shouldn't go for it (laughs). Well, I'll think about it.

What do you think about your competitors in the industry?
Honestly, I feel healthy competition is always welcome. Otherwise, you get all lazy and feel relaxed, which is a human tendency. But competition reminds us that if you don't focus or don't put in an extra effort, someone else might do just that and take a leap. In an industry where focus and dedication is a necessity, I think competition is very important. I don't mind working with my contemporaries if the script demands it, but I think its the right time in the industry to make a multi-starrer, like a Maharabharat. It's been long since someone did that, and it would be great to see some of the best actors coming together for one big star cast film.

How do you look back at your journey so far? Did you imagine you would come this far?
Imagine, yes. Because its our dreams and imaginations that drive us. I have worked hard to reach where I am today. Despite being someone who did not belong to any film family, I was always very passionate about my goals and achievements. I was very focussed about my work, but in a very passionate and clean way. Every actor wants to be accepted by the audience, so I would go to a temple and pray for my film, for my fans to continue loving me and to get accepted as an actor. My permanent wish has always been the fact that my audience enjoys and loves watching my films.

Before we end this conversation, I would like to know, what do you like the most about living in India?
I love the chaos of this country. We may complain about the traffic, mess and all that, but its important. There is a beauty in that chaos, which just shows the warmth of this country. If you travel across the globe, you won't find a more warmer country than India. The culture and hospitality is unmatchable. But on the offside, I don't like the poverty. Its really sad and in certain parts, the situation is terrible. We really need to get together and do something about it.

Review | Za Perfect Fit Liquid Foundation

So, after facing a whole lot of technical issues since more than a month (also the reason why we were off YouTube) and being busy with a few personal projects, we are back with regular posts, just like always. This time, we have got a beauty review. Za India recently launched their all new liquid foundation - Za Perfect Fit Liquid Foundation - which has a water based formula. The product was tested during the experience period and the results are here! Read on to know more.

What? Za Perfect Fit Liquid Foundation
Quantity: 30ml
Price: Rs 700
Available in: 6 Shades
Shade tested: OC 30
What does it promise? The Za Perfect Fit Foundation contains micro pink pearls. These ultra fine pearls emit diverse kinds of light, that can help diminish uneven skin tone and pores. It helps emit light from within for flawless skin, with a rosy glow and great complexion. The oil free and water based formula feels watery and spreads over the skin with a dewy texture, in order to perfectly suit your skin. It provides a non-sticky finish, that renders the use of a face powder unnecessary.

How to use? Shake lightly, 2-3 times and apply an appropriate amount over face, spreading evenly from the centre of the face to outwards.

Packaging: Comes in an adorable, plastic bottle. The metallic cap ensures that the product does not spill. It also ensures that no extra amount of the product pours out during application. The cap fits well and both the bottle, cap are not too heavy. The packaging is very convenient and light weight, especially to use while traveling, which is a major plus point.

Texture: Since its a water based formula, the texture is light weight. It does not feel too heavy, even after application. The product is smooth and has a satiny finish.

Overall Experience: Personally, I have always preferred foundations with a water based formula as compared to the normal ones, thanks to their light texture and non-cakey finish. The Za Perfect Fit Liquid Foundation makes for a perfect addition to your make up kit, especially during the hot and humid climate. The bottle is easy to carry. For a natural look, just a little bit of the product goes a long way. The coverage is decent, but if you are looking for a heavy coverage, you might have to depend on extra use of concealer. After evenly applying the product, it hydrates and does not leave your skin feeling too oily or dry. I also noticed how the product has a pink undertone, which gives a light rosy finish (at least my shade did). The SPF 17 PA ++ makes for an added advantage, as it does the job of protecting your skin as well. What also works in the favour of this product is the fact that it is suitable for all skin types. It works well for those with dry, oily and combination skin, which is great. Plus, the price you pay for all these benefits is perfect. The fragrance is similar to other Za make up products.

Pros: Light weight formula
Gives a natural, satiny finish
Hydrating
well prices
convenient packaging

Cons: Light coverage
Use of Alcohol in Ingredients

Verdict: Makes for a great buy, if you are looking for a well priced, light weight foundation with light coverage. Plus, the adorable packaging only makes it more coveted. The smooth texture and perfect finish will give you a subtle, natural glow. It's a wonder product, housed in a beautiful little bottle.

Admit it, many of us survive in our jeans. Some of our favourite pairs have been with us through all the good and bad times. First day of college, first day out at the coffee shop with your new girl gang, first international country travel, finding your first love, going through the first heartbreak; that super comfortable pair has been through this entire roller coaster journey. So, isn't it essential for us to invest in the perfect pair? I certainly think so.

For me, investing in the right pair of jeans in extremely crucial. Right from the fit around my waist, hip, ankle to checking out the comfort level while sitting, walking and even twirling around, I pay a lot of attention to everything. Plus, it helps if the quality of denim is superior and flexible enough. One brand that has never comprised on delivering the perfect fit and quality is Levi's. While the styles have evolved over the years, their motto remains the same - delivering much more than just a pair of blue jean. Levi's has been a pioneer when it comes to experimenting with new fits, cuts, colours among others and recently, when I was invited to preview their all new Levi's New Women's Denim Collection, I knew that my next favourite pair will be from this range. According to the team, the idea was to present a pair of jeans which fits so well, that a woman almost feels that it was specially made for her. With six fits to choose from (710 super skinny, 711 skinny, 721 high rise skinny, 311 shaping skinny, 312 shaping slim and 501 CT boyfriend), there is something for everyone. And I had my eyes set on the Skinny range.

I have found my favourite in the Levi's 711 Skinny Jean - Star Gaze. This super duper awesome pair of jean scores well in almost every department, be it the colour, fit, comfort and the overall look. Its a mid rise skinny jean, which is slim through both the leg and thigh, with a classic skinny leg. The fabric is very comfortable and doesn't feel heavy at all. In fact, its a unique stretch denim that allows room for lots of flexibility. Yes, I can do my splits and jumps quite comfortably. It has fast become my favourite go-to pair. A tee/sweat shirt, pair of sneakers and I am ready to roll. Bring on the Monday blues, I shall fight em with my blue jean, alright!

Stress impacts your immune system and can have adverse effects on your blood pressure, sugar levels, cholesterol, digestion and hormones and can lead to fatigue, autoimmune diseases and even cancer. Extreme stress when left unattended can also speed up the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and tumours and other degenerative diseases.
Stress is a normal part of life and increases every time an event looms up and one cannot expect to escape it altogether. Most of us have long working hours, unrealistic deadlines to be met, family tensions etc. Stress, unwanted, but inevitable reflects concerns like anxiety, fatigue, anger, depression, irritability, headaches etc. It is one’s attitude to life that is necessary to tackle and manage stress. All of us are vulnerable to stressful situations and need to find answers or solutions

☻ Positive Attitude: A positive attitude really helps. Negativity fosters low self esteem and increases the chances to be more inefficient. Learn to manage time systematically, devote time for work and family, and convert any form of problem into challenges.  Pace your activities and learn to delegate, share work, to ease your schedule and lessen the stress.

☻ Learn to relax: Rest, sleep and relaxation are crucial components for relieving stress, both physical as well as mental.

Sleep Like A Baby: A good night's sleep goes a long way

☻ Prayers: Practise of meditation and prayers help to cleanse negative emotions like anger, anxiety and fear. Meditation helps lower stress levels very effectively.

☻ Eat healthy: We are what we eat.” Food has an important role in influencing our attitude, thoughts and behaviour patterns. Opt for foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, sprouts, fresh vegetable juices, nuts, green tea among others as these foods can enhance energy, give rise to good mood and cheerfulness and can alleviate stress, boost confidence and a sense of wellbeing. Wholesome and natural foods have medicinal, healing and regenerative properties.

☻ Kick out the Junk: Avoid excess sugar/sweets, deep fried snacks among others.
Learn to say no to junk food, soft drinks, fruit juices, excess tea, coffee and alcohol. These are stimulants that affect the nervous system and can aggravate stress.  Alcohol and smoking may give you temporary relief from the work stress, but in the long run, your health will suffer big time with their use.

☻ Balanced Diet: If you are on the go all the time and have been eating away from home (especially in the case of those who live alone), opt for grilled or steamed foods with clear soups and salads and avoid rich gravies, salad dressings, cheeses and desserts. Avoid large portion and sizes, especially during lunch time, as you have to get back to work. A balanced diet always helps.

In Part II, we will discuss effective exercises, that will help keep stress at bay!

5 dieting and fitness myths busted | Health

$

Since childhood, we have all been taught that health is our greatest wealth. To swear by this golden rule in life, people opt for various methods, which include hitting the gym, signing up for various fitness classes, and of course, dieting. The fact that several hundred diet courses are available in the market, only shows its great demand. However, along with such fads come several myths that often lead to confusion. What is a boon in one plan, may turn out to be a bane in the other. So what should one do? Well, just act sensible and find out the right combination of exercise and food plan that works for you. And no, crash dieting doesn't work. We list down 5 myths related to good health.

“I run on the treadmill every day, which means I am fit” - Erm, no! Spending 15 random minutes on the treadmill is not everything. While at the gym, shut off the world (the gym is not a place to gossip) and divert all your attention to the workout. Follow the instructor’s advice and focus on different parts of your body each day. Work on your stamina, track your progress regularly, and make note of your strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, include brisk walking, yoga or a fun activity for added benefits. Don’t treat it as a formal drill, make healthy living your lifestyle.

“I am losing weight, because I am on a juice diet” - Juice diet may work as good detox for a day or two, but skipping meals entirely and starving yourself by only drinking fruit juices for days and weeks is insane. During the course, you may end up feeling weak & exhausted, or even worse, falling sick. Your body needs healthy solid foodstuff too. Balanced meals are the way to go.

“I had a heavy breakfast, so I can skip my lunch” - Not really! A heavy breakfast helps you stay on your toes all day, but the lunch will help you cope with the later (more exhaustive) part of the day. A wholesome, nutritious lunch is extremely important. Don’t eat till you stuff your face and feel like throwing up. Divide the day’s food plan into 5–6 small meals.

“The plan worked for my friend, who is the same age, so it will work on me too” - Kidding, right? No two individuals are the same, and everybody has different requirements. A lot of factors, including your BMI (Body Mass Index), internal and external health issues, family health history among other things, have to be kept in mind before you go ahead with a fitness or food routine. Plus, the key areas that need to be worked upon differ too. So, think twice before you blindly follow a family member, peer, or favourite celebrity’s fitness/food plan.

“I had a bowl full of fresh fruits in the morning. Having a plate of French fries now causes no harm.” - If you have committed to following a particular routine, stick to it. Don’t cause disruptions that can ruin your health during the course. A few cheats once a week are fine, but otherwise, junk food items that do no good to your body are best avoided.

While there are several myths, the best you can do for yourself is to take control of your life at the right time. And if you still dread the consequences of all the time that you have wasted earlier, opting for a health insurance plan may be a good choice. We recently came across Royal Sundaram’s Health Insurance Plan, and after learning how they have been at the forefront of innovative insurance solutions since several years, we definitely thought of giving it a serious thought. After all, precaution is always better than cure, and your health is definitely more precious than anything else under the sun. You may act lazy, make excuses, and try convincing yourself that you don’t need to make that extra effort, but remember, in the end, it is YOU who will reap the benefit.

The Tarun Tahiliani Showcase - Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2015 | Reliance Trends

Last Sunday, The St.Regis Hotel (erstwhile Palladium Hotel) was buzzing with activities, thanks to the fact that it was the venue for one of Mumbai's most renowned fashion events - Lakme Fashion Week. And the atmosphere at 5 pm was quite something. After all, it was the final showcase being presented at the main stage area and that too, by none other than popular designer Tarun Tahiliani. The showcase was presented by Reliance Trends. If you have been following our updates on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, you would know how I was on the hunt for the perfect outfit from Reliance Trends and ultimately,  you guys helped me choose a floral twin set for the showcase. I opted for a sleek ponytail, deep marsala lips and no accessories (check the complete look here). Reliance Trends invited us to watch the showcase and needless to say, just like every season, Tarun Tahiliani (who has collaborated with Reliance Trends for the second time) left everyone in the audience mesmerised with his stunning collection. And well, showstopper actress Chitrangda Singh in a gorgeous black velvet jacket with intricate gold details, only helped the temperatures rise on an otherwise gloomy Sunday.

The 2015 Autumn/Winter line from Tarun Tahiliani presents a couturier’s skill in the form of a prêt a porter collection. The ready-to-wear line is a homage to construction, albeit in the form of exotic prints. The beautiful Russian influences in bold and colourful stripes and chits remind you of the rich visual intensity of Central Asian textile tradition. On the other hand, the Shiraz inspiration (named after a city in Iran) could be easily spotted in the form of lovely mosaics and kilim weaves. The collection also took a lot of inspiration from carpet weaves, as the concentric borders of the woven-art were included in vibrant hues of rust, olive and blue prints on several outfits, including kaftans, tunics and shift dresses. The collection included a wide variety of drapes, dhotis, kedia jackets, wraps, tunics and skirts.
According to Tahiliani, the idea was to tone down the palette for fall (which was a breakaway from his rather colourful showcase - The Singh Twins - last season). The silhouettes were more easy, that allowed space for clean, sensually draped capes, jumpsuits, and sarees. While talking about his collection, Tahiliani stated that the idea behind this collection was to connect with the past, while forging an identity with the future.

Separates dominated the collection. The idea was to allow an individual to mix and match, take their own decision and put together the outfit in a way that defines their personality. The melange of a sari with a jumpsuit gave the Concept Sari a perfect makeover, with pleats, a draped dupatta and only a single zipper. This style was definitely the biggest highlight of the showcase (and Team Dancebee's personal favourite as well). The showcase saw an interesting mix of colour palette, ranging from bridal reds to steel, gray and a lot of black and gold. One could also see saris and kurtis paired with gilts and capelets, thus making the entire outfit look more hip. Each outfit had an ethnic charm, with twists that were more young and edgy.

Amidst a claps and cheers, Chitrangda Singh sashayed down the ramp and posed for the shutterbugs, and the models took a bow, as the showcase came to an end. The collection left everyone spellbound, as audience members walked out, discussing their favourites and talking about how they would love to style a few elegant pieces for the upcoming festive season. Clearly, the Reliance Trends presents Tarun Tahiliani show was the perfect mix of glam meets elegance, and we are totally eyeing those stunning concept saris for Diwali this year!

What do you think about the collection presented by Tarun Tahiliani this year?

The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Body Scrub | Review

It's rare for someone like me (with sensitive skin) to come across a scrub that is not just gentle, but also extremely hydrating. So far, I have always stayed away from trying body scrubs, because they often lead to de-hydrated, dry skin. And when The Body Shop recently launched their all new Fuji Green Tea collection and sent us products from the range, I thought I'll give the scrub a miss. But while checking out the texture of each product, I was quite impressed with this scrub and curious to know if it will change my perception. Curious that I am, I decided to take a risk and test The Body Shop's Fuji Green Tea Body Scrub. The result (and honest opinion) - I am hooked, and how!

What? - The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Body Scrub
Quantity: 250ml
Price: Rs 1295

What does it promise? The product perfect for cleansing and exfoliating, the crisp and refreshing scent of Fuji Green Tea™ Body Scrub helps to lift away dead skin cells, detox the body, and prepare skin for moisture. The Green Tea range of products helps in lifting away dead skin cells. Infused with replenishing green tea from Japan, which helps you get healthy looking skin. Enriched with Community Fair Trade Honey from Ethiopia.

How to use? - Use a spatula or spoon to get the required amount of product in your hand (I prefer using it this way, as it does not waste any product and this process is hygienic). Apply to damp skin in a circular motion, then rinse thoroughly for refreshingly smooth skin. For best results, use two to three times a week.

Packaging: A sturdy plastic jar, which is transparent (and cute). The product is easily visible through this jar, so you can keep a tab on the amount that you are using. The metallic cap fits well and ensures that the product does not spill. Safe to carry while traveling.

Texture: Smooth, gel based scrub with micro-granules. The granules are not harsh and the product is extremely light weight.

Overall Experience: This is exactly what I was looking for! A light weight, gentle scrub that does its job well, without drying your skin out. Right from the delightful fragrance to the texture, packaging and introducing a refreshing ingredient like the Fuji Green Tea, The Body Shop has nailed it in every department. The product starts working the moment you start massaging it on your body in the shower. Within minutes, you start feeling relaxed, hydrated and squeaky clean; all this, right after the first use! 2-3 trials later, I was in love. I noticed that the scrub helped in exfoliating and ensuring that my skin remains soft, while getting rid of the dead cells (this is where the gel + micro-granules formula comes to the rescue) and even some pesky in-growths.  What’s also amazing is the fact that a little product goes a really long way, which means, the jar will last you for a good 6-7 months, depending on the way you use it. Honestly, using this scrub feels like a trip to the spa. And the best part? It works well on all skin types. One of our team members, who has oily skin, tried the scrub and made a trip to the TBS store to pick up her own jar. Now you know what I mean by getting hooked on, right?

Pros: Delightful fragrance
Refreshing mix of ingredients
Gentle texture
Works well on all skin types
Well priced for a 250ml jar

Cons: None

Verdict: The Body Shop's Fuji Green Tea Scrub has fast become one of my favourite skincare products. I am totally stocking up on this, and so should you!

Have you tried any product from The Body Shop's Fuji Green Tea range?

Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa | Review

$

My first epilator was by Braun, a simple hand and leg epilator that I had purchased with my own money during degree college years. Waxing or creams are not really the ideal ways of hair removal for someone with sensitive skin. Though I must admit, there have been days when I couldn't spend too much time and would prefer making a stop at the salon for a quick wax session. And all hell would break loose after a few days, when red bumps would say hello and not leave until I would apply fresh aloe gel. Razors? I am not even getting there (and I haven't tried them either). So, the epilator was certainly a boon, but it did have a few setbacks. The cord would restrict my movements, the epilation modes were limited, I had to spend several minutes to make sure that my hands look clean and feel smooth, and of course, I had to ensure that there is enough light nearby.
But recently, when Braun introduced me to the all new Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa, I was told that it had a solution to all my worries and more. So, does it really have an answer to all the above mentioned problems? Read the review to find out.

What? - Braun Silk-épil 9 Skin Spa
Price: Rs 10985

What does it promise? Braun introduces Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa: the new standard of epilation excellence combined with an innovative sonic exfoliation brush. With a 40% wider head, the new Silk-épil 9 covers more area and removes more hair in one stroke for faster epilation. The MicroGrip tweezer technology introduces Braun's most innovative tweezers with an improved geometry to increase the plucking and feeding performance and gently remove more hairs in one stroke. The combination of these two features results in faster hair removal, even on the shortest hairs (0.5mm) that wax cannot catch, for up to 4 weeks of smooth skin. The exfoliation brush removes dead skin cells thanks to its massaging micro-vibrations that visibly improve skin's appearance by exfoliating it 4x better than a manual treatment alone. The Wet & Dry cordless usage allows you to use it in the bath or shower for a gentler epilation. When used regularly, epilation is virtually painless.

Packaging: The main body (with the extra wide epilation head) and the exfoliation brush are all neatly placed in the box. All the additional parts have been packed separately in a plastic bag inside the box. The kit comes with a handy manual, which has tips and step-by-step processes on how the product can be used. It also includes the warranty card.

How to use (Epilator)? -  Use the epilation head and attach either the massage cap or the skin contact cap (depends on whether you are used to regular epilation or not. If you are a first time user, go with the massage cap, seen in the picture above). Select the speed, depending on the kind of epilation that you want (I for gentle and II for efficient). In case you are trying the dry usage method, make sure your skin is free from any grease or cream. If its the wet method, make sure your skin is moist. Stretch your skin and make sure that the epilation area is in close contact with your skin. Move the epilator slowly, without any pressure, against the hair (in the direction of the switch). For better results, guide the product in different directions, as the hair growth may differ. The manual includes points on how the product can be used with other parts, for a complete hair-free experience.

Epilation Tips: ☻ It is advisable that you epilate a day before an important event / meeting. This ensures that you have enough time to let any possible post-epilation reddening subside.
☻ Make sure that you follow up with a good moisturiser or aloe gel after the epilation.
☻ If the hair length is long, it is advisable that you first shave and then, let your hair grow back to at least 0.5mm.
☻ If you are using the shaver head attachment (image given below), make sure it is done only on dry skin.

Overall Experience: Fuss-free and absolutely painless! That's how I can describe my trial. The subsequent trials helped in adjusting to the product and over time, the process became a super fast way to get rid of unwanted hair. I always opt for the wet usage method and the fact that this epilator is cordless and safe to use in the shower is the biggest boon. I use the exfoliation process at least a few days (mostly a week) before the epilation, to ensure that the dead skin cells are gone. I tried the exfoliation brush with my new favourite - The Body Shop's Fuji Green Tea Scrub and the result was supremely smooth skin. The exfoliation helped, as the epilation that was followed a few days later ensured that there are no in-growths left. I am yet to test facial epilation and so, the moment I try it, the experience shall be posted on our social media handles. So far, I am satisfied with the way it has treated my skin - no irritation, pain or damage. Plus, the fact that it is so handy and quick to use is a big win, especially keeping the kind of lifestyle that we live in mind. The smart light is saviour, as it helps you keep a tab on every strand of hair, no matter how big or small. The exfoliation brush makes it the perfect skin spa and is one of the highlights of this kit. The kit is travel friendly, with the main product, additional parts and exfoliation brush hardly weighing a few grams. The Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa is everything that you need for a complete hair-free experience, that is painless and absolutely convenient.

Pros: travel friendly
multiple benefits
quick process
smartlight
easy wet usage method of epilation
excellent exfoliation
cordless
well priced (keeping in mind the amount one ends up paying for every wax session or hair removal cream tube)
Available in different colours (including pink)

Cons: None so far!

Verdict: To sum it up, the Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa is a must have for every woman on the go. Try getting used to his hassle-free epilation process, you will get your weekly bi-monthly wax appointments.

Have you tried the Braun Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa or got a feedback for epilators in general?

5 Most Anticipated Films of 2015 | Cinema

Just one more fortnight and we will be down to the last quarter of the year. One of the most crucial ones for Bollywood, honestly, because this is where most of the big ticket projects will hit the marquee, thanks to the ongoing festive season. Most films have already reserved a festival date for themselves, way in advance, in order to ensure that not just their target audience, but every cine-goer enjoys their dose of entertainment during the long weekend. While there are several films, like Jazbaa, which marks the return of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Talvar (based on the Arushi Murder Case), and even the well promoted Akshay Kumar starrer Singh Is Bliing, which looks promising; we have shortlisted 5 films which are not just making the right noises, but have also left the audience curious and excited for the film's release. Let's take a look at the top 5 films that we can't wait to watch this year (in order of release date)!

Shaandaar
Right from the motion poster, to the trailer and finally the first song launch, this film is killing it with its fun and quirky appeal. Most Bollywood fanatics have been quite curious to see just how well will the Shahid - Alia jodi fare, considering it is the first time they are doing a film together. And well, not only did the trailer shun the naysayers with some sizzling (and cute) chemistry between the two, the endearing chemistry shared by Shahid and his off screen papa, Pankaj Kapoor, also left a delightful smile on our face. With Vikas Bahl helming the project after his award winning and much loved, Queen, and the Karan Johar + Phantom + Fox Star Studios producing it, Shaandaar is gonna be one helluva joyride. Save the date! It's coming this Dussehra (October 22).

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
A Diwali release + Salman Khan = can't you hear firecrackers bursting out loud already? Prem Ratan Dhan Payo marks director Sooraj Barjatya's return as the captain of the ship after 9 years (his last directorial venture being Vivah, starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao). While we all saw actors like Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor taking over the lead as Prem for sometime, in 2015, the original Prem - Salman Khan is all set to get into the groove once again. The actor will be seen opposite Sonam Kapoor and the film is said to be yet another Barjatya style family drama, filled with emotions, grand set ups and melodious songs (we hear this album will have as many as 10 tracks).  With Sunny Deol's Ghayal Returns pushed to a later date, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will enjoy a solo release during the Diwali week. Dear BO, hope you are ready to handle the madness on November 12!

Tamasha
Imtiaz Ali, Ranbir - Deepika, and exotic locations. Now, do you still need a reason to watch the film? Tamasha has got everything going for it, right from the cast, crew to stunning locales that one can see in all the official stills. The film marks hit pair Ranbir - Deepika's return and it also happens to be the second time these good looking actors will be working with Imtiaz Ali (while Ranbir has worked with him in Rockstar, Deepika did Love Aaj Kal). While the buzz around this film in both social and print media is very strong, the makers are currently using social network platforms like Facebook and Twitter to put up fun sneak peek videos. One of the recent ones even had Ranbir messing up all the official social media handles of Tamasha. Exclusive stills from the film are also being shared from time to time, which is generating a strong buzz among film lovers. We are quite sure this terrific combo is all set to break records once again!

Bajirao Mastani
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic saga, Bajirao Mastani, is one of the most anticipated films of 2015. We all know this was SLB's dream project, that kept waiting in the wings due to cast issues for several years. Now that the film is on the verge of completion, all the updates and teasers are leaving us excited and thrilled. For someone who has grown up reading a lot about the Maratha and Peshwa history, it will be a delight to watch SLB's version of the classic Bajirao - Mastani love story, on the big screen. Keeping in mind the kind of larger than life films that he is known for, we are quite sure that SLB's dream project will win our hearts. With a stellar star cast that includes Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, who look their part and have got into the skin of their characters with ease, this is one film to watch out for on December 18! We can't wait for the theatrical trailer and music album now.

Dilwale
What better than watching two of our favourite romantic leads - Shahrukh Khan and Kajol - making a return to the silver screen after My Name Is Khan. Ever since the first look still of Dilwale was officially released, all hell broke loose. People on social media went crazy, tweeting and posting updates, while expressing their thoughts about the return of SRK - Kajol. Director Rohit Shetty is one lucky fella. He got SRK to do the 'Lungi Dance' in Chennai Express, and now he is making the actor run around in snow (this time with Kajol), while shooting a song in Iceland. The film is almost complete and it also stars teenage heartthrob Varun Dhawan and actress Kriti Sanon. The ensemble cast will also include Johnny Lever and Sanjay Mishra. But while Dilwale promises to set the cash registers ringing, it will also ensure a major clash with yet another big film. Dilwale will release during the Christmas week - December 18, which also happens to be the release date of Bajirao Mastani. It won't be wrong to call this the clash of the titans. But while their ultimate fate will only be known on the 18th, one thing is for sure - On December 18th, love will be in the air!

Which film are you most excited about? Is it on this list?
