So, it finally happened. After a lot of rescheduling, change of plans and date shuffles, I finally managed to visit Amritsar (Punjab) last month. Although I had originally planned to include a few other parts of Punjab, along with Himachal Pradesh in the itinerary, my schedule had space for just a four day break. Well, that was enough to cover the city of Amritsar. Fortunately, the weather gods were pleased and we experienced the last week of winter in the scenic city. Temperatures fell to almost 8 - 9 degrees at night (Mumbai was around 30 degrees the same time), making it a trip to remember!

Of course, how can I forget my lovely readers and followers? Keeping in mind several queries that were asked during my stay, I decided the vlog throughout the trip, in order to ensure we cover the popular areas in Amritsar and help you with some travel tips + advice. Part I of my vlog is finally out, where I experience the tranquility and blissful atmosphere at Harminder Saheb (Golden Temple), take a long stroll at the newly constructed Ranjit Singh Chowk lane and gorge on yummy local food. So, hop on to #DancebeeTravels ki gaddi and get ready to experience the picturesque city of Amritsar.

Love,

Noor has a wonderful character graph which I wanted to portray - Sonakshi Sinha | Exclusive Interview

$

Think Sonakshi Sinha and the first thing that comes to your mind would be - Damn! Is there anything this girl can’t do? From acting to singing, rapping and now turning judge for a reality show on television, Sonakshi has done it all. When she debuted seven years back alongside actor Salman Khan in Dabbang, she stood out with her impressive act, and her dialogue ‘Thappad se darr nahi lagta’ went on to become a huge hit. A nuanced performance in Lootera followed next, with which she cemented her position as a performer in the industry. Over the years she has delivered some fine performances in films like Bullet Raja, Linga, Rowdy Rathore, Akira, Force 2 among others, essaying characters ranging from a village belle to RAW agent.

In 2017, we are all set to see her in a new space, that of a journalist. The actress is ready with her next release Noor, an adaptation of the famous Pakistani novel - Karachi You're Killing Me by Saba Imtiaz. It is a known fact that Sona had made a few rules for herself back then, which she still swears by - she will be never seen kissing someone on screen, and will never don a bikini / swimsuit on screen. Needless to say, Sona still abides by the same rules she had formulated seven years back. In a tete-a-tete with Team Dancebee’s Sneha, the gorgeous Sonakshi Sinha talks about Noor, judging Nach Baliye, passion for dance and more.

Did you read the novel to understand the character and story?
Yes, I did read it. I found it to be very entertaining and engaging. When director Sunil Sippy narrated this story to me, I immediately liked it and said yes for the role. It is a character I could relate to in many ways. There is a wonderful character graph of Noor which I really wanted to portray. There is a good mix of funny and emotional moments in the film, which I loved to play on screen. Also, the fact that this film is based on a book helped in relating to the characters in a better way.

How difficult or easy was it for you to play Noor?
I would say it was easy. After the trailer was launched, so many people came to me and told me that they have so much similarities with Noor. Honestly, there are many scenes where I feel like I am Noor in real life too.

There is a good mix of funny and emotional moments in the film, which I loved to play on screen

We heard you got a chance to explore several unknown places in Mumbai during the shoot. How was that experience?
I am born and brought up in Mumbai. But, I must say with Noor, I have explored many places which I have never seen. We shot in Wadala, Vashi, and many other places like cement factories and salt pans, which I have not visited earlier. It was quite an experience. These places haven’t been explored in Hindi films. Filming at areas like a cement factory can get quite uncomfortable, as the area which was full of dust.

How much of inputs have you taken from your friends in the media?
Right from my first film, I have had a deep connection with the media. I have been watching you guys for years now (smiles). So, I picked up a few nuances from journalists whom I have met over the years. It was fun to be on the other side of the mic.

Right from my first film, I have had a deep connection with the media

What was it about Nach Baliye that made you take up the role of a judge?
I was always looking for something, if not better, but as good as Indian Idol to be a part of. When Nach Baliye came to me, I immediately connected to the dance factor. At this point, I thought this would be the best thing for me to do. It’s not just dance but the show is also about couples and their stories.  Many of them are not even dancers and it’s interesting to see how they support each other. So, that’s exciting!

Would you be cautious or diplomatic while judging the contestants?
I don’t know if I am a cautious person, because I am real and honest. If I like or dislike something, it shows on my face. I am transparent and that’s something people like and relate with. But, I also know how to put across my thoughts in a nice way, so that no one is offended. Plus, they all are professionals and have been in the industry, where they have to face lots of praise and brick- bracts. So, I think they are used to it. Hopefully that should also help them to manoeuvre their way through the show.
If I like or dislike something, it shows on my face. I am transparent and that’s something people like and relate with

Do you enjoy dancing?
Oh! I really enjoy dancing, and stage shows are a favourite part of my profession. I was very little when I started dancing at birthday parties and dance competitions. I used to get offended if I didn’t win the prize (laughs). And that’s when I knew that I loved to dance. I have not learnt professionally but when I was younger as a form of exercise I would always enrol myself at the Shiamak Davar or Terrence Lewis classes. I used to keep doing it because I was so fond of it. Plus, anyway I used to hate working out as such. So, dance was the only way I could have exercised. I think when you are fond of something you automatically get better at it and do it with your heart.

Who are your favourite dancers from the Indian film industry?
Of course, it has to be Madhuri (Dixit) ji. Any girl from my generation would look up to her. Then, we have wonderful dancers like Deepika Padukone who is graceful, Alia (Bhatt) is so funky. Also, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Varun Dhawan - all of them are really good dancers.

Your next project is the Ittefaq remake. How's that coming along?
Well, I have started shooting for the film already. But, I am yet to watch the original cult film, which stars Rajesh Khanna. So, for me, it's like doing a new film. I am sure a lot of people from my generation haven't seen the film either. Personally, I loved the way the film has been rewritten and adapted to fit in today's scenario. I am looking forward to this one.

Cinema | 5 Reasons to Watch Dear Zindagi

$

The headline may have left you wondering, "Didn't Dear Zindagi release last year already?" Well, it sure did. However, I know several folks who missed the chance to watch this acclaimed film on the big screen. But, guess what? The wait is finally over. The film is all set to air on the small screen this weekend, with a World Television Premiere scheduled on Sunday at 12 pm. For those who came in late, Gauri Shinde's directorial venture 'Dear Zindagi' stars Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, and focuses on mental health as the core subject.

But, you may ask - Why should I spend my Sunday afternoon watching this film, instead of the good ol' drama show or match highlights? Well, we've got more reasons than one to prove why you must tune into Zee Cinema and watch Dear Zindagi this Sunday.

Alia - SRK Chemistry: In an industry where romantic on-screen pairs and characters rule the roost, we had SRK and Alia display excellent chemistry as a therapist (psychiatrist) - patient pair. Highlight of the film, of course, has got to be their counselling sessions. The ease and comfort with which they interact is fabulous. Their conversations look real and relatable, which makes it an interesting watch.

SRK in a different avatar:We have seen him steal our hearts as Raj Malhotra in DDLJ, and more recently, he taught us how 'Koi dhanda chota nahi hota' in Raees. Well, that's superstar Shah Rukh Khan for you - versatile as ever. While we have seen him essay several characters ranging from a lover boy to don, street side tapori to a heartbroken professor; his character in Dear Zindagi was a breakaway from everything he has done in the past. Khan plays the role a therapist for the very first time, and that too, with a twist. His character - Jehangir 'Jug' Khan has a unique approach for all his cases. What's it all about? You need to watch the film and find out.

Music: Most of us believe that the soundtrack of a film can make or break it. Fortunately, Dear Zindagi is packed with some refreshingly different and melodious songs. Amit Trivedi's compositions and Kausar Munir's soulful lyrics form a great melange, that is heartwarming, light and easy on the ear. Our favourites have got to be 'Love you Zindagi', sung by Jasleen Royal and of course, the recreated version of 'Ae Zindagi' sung by Arijit Singh. You can't help but fall in love with the OST, slowly and steadily.

Performances: One of the key highlights and strongest pro of this film has got to be the performances delivered by lead actors, and well, our reviewer too agreed. Alia's nuanced performance as the young cinematographer - Kaira, who fights against her inner emotional turmoil, earned her accolades from industry stalwarts. The actress took home top awards for her natural, balanced act. Khan's naturally flawless performance as therapist Jug strikes an instant connect. Minutes into his 'gyan filled session' and you will believe that indeed, this world is a beautiful place to live in.

The Takeaway: While Dear Zindagi does have its usual entertainment and filmy moments that stay with you, the biggest takeaway from this film has got to be the motivation to live, love and laugh. Today, we live a fast paced life, follow hectic routines and tire ourselves to no end, all in our quest to emerge successful and become the best. The crazy competition out there has got us stuck in a whirlwind, and the way out usually gets quite difficult. The result? We have forgotten to enjoy some of life's most simplest pleasures. Or like a friend of mine likes to call it - 'Theraav'. Enjoying a mango popsicle on a sunny day or watching the raindrops pitter-patter on the window pane with a cup of coffee in hand; we usually ignore these moments because everybody is in a rush to be 'somewhere'. In a bid to follow the herd, stick to routines or live upto societal pressures, most people lose their mental peace. Dear Zindagi explores this very concept in a beautiful way. It has the answers to a 20-something's inner turmoil, and also helps the audience discover a different side to life. A side that he / she may know about, but had to leave behind in order to join the rat race. It's about time we respect ourselves, enjoy the small joys of life and learn to live a little.

This Sunday, get your family together with a large tub of home-made popcorn (or maybe, some yummy lunch), tune in, sit back and relax. Watch the World Television Premiere - Dear Zindagi, on April 23 at 12 pm IST, only on Zee Cinema.

Dancebee Travels | The Macao Food Trail

Most of you following us on our social media platforms already know that I had a great time in Macao last fortnight. From delightful activities to gorging on dainty dishes and exploring the stunning properties owned by Sands Resorts at the Cotai Strip; we did all this and so much more! This fortnight, I am super excited to share stories and exciting features from my Macau travel diaries. We kick off our #DancebeeInMacau series with some culinary feast.

During our stay, we got an opportunity to visit different restaurants, located within the connected properties (more information about the property to follow in upcoming posts). With a variety of restaurants dedicated to multiple cuisines from across the globe, there was something for everyone. We were spoilt for choice, as we explored some of the most popular restaurants, mainly at The Venetian and The Parisian Macao. There was a lot to like and love at each of these restaurants. While some stood out for its ambience, some others for its gorgeous decor. But, all of them had one thing in common - delicious food. Here's a round up of our favourite restaurants, that you must visit on your next trip to Macao.

Brasserie (The Parisian Macao)

After a long day of travel, we reached a few hours late, which resulted in a late lunch. However, the delicious French fare at the Brasserie ensured we leave the place with a smile on our face. This all day dining place is a favourite with those who enjoy signature French dishes. Brasserie's kitchen team is led by the experienced French chef Daniel Brolese, who ensures the dishes bring out authentic flavours. Featuring classic café favourites, straight from the streets of Paris, one must try some delectable crepes filled with cheese, shallot and cream sauce with french fries, soups with a basket full of fresh bread on the side or just some good ol' plate full of french fries (one of the best I have tried). Special mention of the amazing service at the restaurant, warm ambience and eye-catching decor.

Golden Peacock (The Venetian Macao)

You know that wonderful feeling when you find an Indian restaurant, miles away from home, serving lip smackingly good desi food? Say hello to Golden Peacock - a fine dining Indian cuisine restaurant at The Venetian Macao, that had has bowled over with it's supremely divine desi fare. The only Indian restaurant in Asia starred by Michelin for three consecutive years, Golden Peacock is known to have a comprehensive desi menu, with popular dishes from Northern and Southern India (Jain dishes are served too). Not only Indians, but you will also find other international tourists enjoying the scrumptious food at this restaurant. Our curated menu (separate for guests depending on Veg & Non-Veg preference) included Veg Starters, Tomato Shorba, mains including Egg Plant (Baingan) curry and more. We absolutely loved the dessert, which consisted of Mango Rasmalai and hot Gulab Jamuns. Right from the presentation to hospitality, choice of dishes on the menu to the wonderful ambience, Golden Peacock scores full points on our list and was definitely our favourite pick at the Sands Resorts, Macao.

La Chine (The Parisian Macao)

Always dreamt of enjoying a wonderful meal, while adoring the breathtaking view from Eiffel Tower? Well, The Parisian Macao fulfils your wish with La Chine - a Chinese cuisine restaurant situated on level 6 of the Eiffel Tower. Vibrant ambience, tastefully done up decor and the aroma of good authentic Chinese food; La Chine is an elegant fine dining restaurant in every way. What we love about this place is the fact that it creates a wonderful melange of two completely different cultures - Chinese and French, not only in the ambience, but also with its appetising fare. Where else would you find the delicious blend of red bean crepes with green tea ice cream? We loved our curated four course vegetarian fare. However, what won our heart has to be a summery fresh non-alcoholic drink called 'Eiffel Love' - packed with strawberries, coconut milk, mint and more (those following us on Instagram have seen a glimpse of this delicious drink). What's better than enjoying some Eiffel Love, while gazing at the stunning view from the famed tower?

Portofino (The Venetian Macao)

A slice of Italy in Macau. One of Venetian Macao's popular restaurants, Portofino serves delicious Italian dishes. Classic setting, beautiful ambience and stylish decor; Portofino is the kind of place where you would love to relax and chat with your friends over some really good food. If indoor dining is not your thing, you can also choose to dine at the patio, while enjoying the beautiful weather and overlooking the stunning pool. On Day 3, after an amazing tour of important tourist spots in the Macau region, we visited Portofino for lunch. And boy, it was so good! We loved every bit of the Caprese Salad (mozzarella with tomatoes, pesto and pine nuts) and vegetarian pasta specially curated for us. If you love classic Italian dishes and some good ambience, this place is a must visit!

Le Buffet (The Parisian Macao)

Everybody needs a solid brekkie to start their day. What better than a scrumptious buffet, with tons to breakfast options to choose from? Le Buffet at The Parisian Macao, located just 5 mins away from my room at the same property, offers all day buffet. The delightful breakfast spread includes salads, soups, fresh cut fruits, juice and a variety of different food items. Live counters at the buffet served eggs (prepared according to requirement), rice bowls and many more options, mostly non-vegetarian. We also spotted parathas, chole (reads as chickpea curry), egg fried rice, noodles and more. One could also take a pick from the wide variety of breads, croissants and cheese available at the restaurant. Some of our favourite picks during the stay (since being a vegetarian, I had limited options) were the crispy hash browns (my favourite), DIY salads, fresh breads and fruit juices.

We've got tons of updates coming up from the Dancebee Travel Diaries in Macau. Stay tuned!

Things to do in Macao - The Cotai Strip

Visiting Macao anytime soon? The beautiful administrative region of China has got some excellent activities and entertainment options, that will keep you feeling excited and thrilled throughout the stay. During our recent visit, we explored some 'Must Visit' places in and around Cotai Strip, especially at the Sands Resorts, that has seven inter-connected properties, with a plethora of action packed, entertaining options to choose from. Here's a round up of our favourite activities and places to see in Macao, at the Cotai Strip.

The Eiffel Tower Experience

For someone who has always looked up to Paris as the ultimate dream destination, and loves to be in love with the Eiffel Tower, the experience of exploring South East Asia's very own Eiffel was surreal. The 1/2 scale tower is covered in 6000 individual bulbs and stands tall, right inside the Parisian Macao property. The tower is connected to the property with a love bridge, similar to the one in Paris. Visitors can buy love locks from the souvenir shop (located near the ticketing / entrance area of the tower) and lock them with a note or message at the bridge. The observation decks at Level 7 and 37 offer a breathtaking view of Macao, with gentle winds blowing in your hair and the sky looking dreamy as ever. And hey, you can even get to see a glimpse of the China border. The tower looks equally, or perhaps more beautiful at night. Don't miss the light show, where the Eiffel Tower dazzles and shimmers in style, turning visitors into paparazzi. If you can't get enough of the sheer beauty that is this tower, opt for the Eiffel Tower view suite (which I did). Trust me, the sheer joy of waking up to this gorgeous view is incomparable. If dining at the Eiffel is your thing, do visit La Chine on level 6 and enjoy the fine view, while you gorge on delicious Chinese food.

Kung Fu Panda Adventure Ice World

On our very first day in Macau, we were greeted by some of our favourite on-screen characters. Post a hearty (super late) lunch, we headed straight to Ice World - Asia’s largest indoor frozen wonderland, spanning over 1,600-square-metre, which has returned to The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo for the fifth year, with some new attractions and activities. Any traveling to Macao till July 9, 2017 can experience the coolest adventure in ice - titled Kung Fu Panda Adventure Ice World with the DreamWorks All-Stars. It was mesmerising to see beautiful ice sculptures, made up of thousands of multi-coloured ice blocks, ice skilfully carved into amazingly detailed sculptures by a team of expert craftsmen from Harbin in northern China. This year, the added attractions have been divided into seven zones and include a host of colourful new DreamWorks Animation characters from films like Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Shrek, How To Train Your Dragon, The Croods and Trolls. They have all been vibrantly brought to life with dazzling lights and stunning sound effects. Travellers and their loved ones can also enjoy new themed games, gorge on savoury snacks, choose from a wide range of merchandise and also hang out with the characters at meet-and-greets. The temperature inside is set at a chilly minus 8 degrees Celsius, so be prepared to enter with your long coats, gloves and closed shoes.

Monkey King Show

Monkey King – China Show is a large-scale fantasy stage play based on the Chinese legend of the famous monk – Xuan Zang from the Tang Dynasty (602 – 664), and is better known as “A Journey to the West.” After eight years in the making, the Beijing Huayan Group launched a stage show based on the legend at the Sands Cotai Theatre (Macao) in February earlier this year. The spectacular stage production breaks new ground in interpreting the classic tale, while appealing to a modern audience. We were mesmerised by the sheer beauty and scale of the dance, acrobatics, drama, martial arts and magic acts. The show also features the most advanced 3D effects, LED screen projections, video mapping and full surround sound, along with creative lighting effects, choreography (they’ve even got a sequence with characters performing on hover boards), music and stunning, colourful costumes.

Planet J

Our experience at the Planet J arena was quite interesting. It is the first-ever player-centric Live-Action-Role-Playing (LARP) Theme Park in the world. Interestingly, it is also the first theme park in Macao, covering an extensive area of 100,000 sq. ft., with 8 exquisite featured zones and over 200 whimsical game installations. FYI, there are no rides inside this theme park.Planet J is a legendary world, where each player takes up the role of a key character in their own fantasy adventure, and solves various quests involving intelligence and physical ability, in order to open treasure chests.

Venetian Gondola Rides

An iconic ride, straight from the European lagoon's islands. At the Venetian, one can experience a beautiful voyage through the indoor canals on an Italian gondola. 44 Gondolas with supremely talented, singing gondoliers entertain the guests, as they wind their way through the canals of Shoppes at Venetian. Sit back, relax and enjoy the lovely ride.

Shop at Sands Resorts

Complete with serenading gondoliers and colourful Venetianstreetscapes, Shoppes at Venetian is a luxurious one-million-square-foot indoor mall with more than 350 stores featuring world-renowned brands and the best boutiques from New York, Paris, London and Milan. After exploring the shoppes at Venetian, visitors can also check out other malls that are a part of Sands Shoppes, connecting the malls at Four Seasons and Cotai Central, adding up to 650 more stores to choose from – the most in any one single location in all of Macao! So, all you shopaholics out there. We highly recommend that you don't miss the opportunity of enjoying the pleasure of shopping at Macao’s ultimate luxury duty-free shoppes. PS: They've just got a huge, swanky new Victoria's Secret store, that opened its doors to the public last fortnight.

Musicals

During our stay at the property, we got a chance to watch Bibap, a popular musical that was performed at the Parisian Theatre from April 7 to 23. Bibap tells the story of a cooking competition between two master chefs, Green Chef and Red Chef, at ‘BIBAP’ restaurant, alongside six other hyperactive performers also dressed as chefs, incorporating a cappella singing, beatbox sounds, b-boying (breakdancing) and acrobatics. Blending martial arts, singing, street dance and hip-hop, BIBAP was created to celebrate and promote Korean food culture worldwide. Currently, anyone of you planning a trip to Macao, anytime till September 3, will be welcomed by an even more ‘thrilling’ act.  Thriller Live, a spectacular theatrical concert, has returned to The Parisian Macao due to popular demand. It pays the perfect tribute to world’s greatest artist ever - Michael Jackson.

How to get there? - From the Macao Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and helicopter terminal, Sands Resorts is only a 10-minute journey. Macau International Airport and the Lotus Flower Bridge Border Checkpoint are just 5 minutes away. The Venetian Macao offers free shuttle bus transportation at the Macao Border Gate, the Macao Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, the Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal and the Macao International Airport for travel to and from The Sands Resorts, Macao.

I am more confident about the technical aspects of film making now - Parineeti Chopra | Exclusive Interview

After a dream debut in the Hindi film industry five years ago, actress Parineeti Chopra saw her second dream turning into reality this year. With her upcoming film, Meri Pyari Bindu, Chopra finally made her playback debut, with a beautiful love ballad titled ‘Maana ke hum’, a song that has already topped various music charts across the country. Needless to say, not just her fans, but almost everyone fell in love with her natural, raw and soothing style of singing. Apart from her singing skills, Pari is also garnering praise for her new avatar in the film, which also stars Ayushmann Khurrana. We caught up with her in between a packed schedule, with promotional activities, rehearsals for a concert (which concluded last weekend) and a film shoot lined up later in Goa. The chirpy, beautiful actress settled down for an exclusive chat with Diary of a Dancebee, where she discussed films, fitness, love for music and lots more. Excerpts from a candid chat:

Congratulations! Finally your dream of singing for your own film came true. Tell us more about your experience?
I am so happy that I can't explain it in words (smiles). I always wanted to sing and people who are close to me knew that I am passionate about singing. When the track - Maana Ke Hum, was made and I heard it, I thought this was a soulful number which gave me so much peace. So, it was a unanimous decision that I sing for myself. The response has been amazing and I have got positive feedback beyond my expectations. It is indeed a special feeling.

How were you introduced to music in your childhood?
My father is a big music enthusiast. My mother was an NRI and after she got married to my father, she started speaking Hindi. So, my musical Influence was mixed. My mother used to listen to Blue Diamond, Abba among others, while my father is a huge fan of Mohammad Rafi. I remember during our childhood, my father used to listen to songs sung by Mukesh and he used to sit with his harmonium. When I started growing up, I started listening to both western and Indian songs. I have been trained in classical music. Also, during our childhood, both me and Mimi Didi (Priyanka Chopra) used to perform with our respective fathers in cultural functions.

People don't understand that it (weight gain or loss) has lot to do with health as well

Major part of Meri Pyari Bindu has been shot in Kolkata. How was your experience?
People of Kolkata are very knowledgeable. They have a passion for good music and awesome food. I just love being there. When you exit the Kolkata airport, you see a different city altogether. It seems like time stops there. I get a vintage vibes from the city. We can still see the black and yellow taxis there.

What were you upto during your break?
I have done up my new house with my inputs, which was very important. I have also given a lot of time to my fitness. Plus, I was busy filming for Meri Pyari Bindu, apart from other events and endorsements. A person like me needs proper personal time to come back with loads of energy and enthusiasm.

Your brand new avatar has been loved and appreciated by your fans. What was the motivation behind this change?
The main reason is that personally, I wasn’t happy to see myself on screen. Sometimes, when you are overweight, you actually don't do justice to your given roles. So, I decided to opt for weight loss. Film is a visual medium and you need to give a lot of importance to your look. Also health wise, I was not getting the needed stamina and used to often feel very tired. So, I thought it’s high time to get my stamina back. It's been 12 long years that I have been struggling with my weight. People don't understand that it has lot to do with health as well.

When I started growing up, I started listening to both western and Indian songs

How do you look back at your career so far?
It's been a good journey. I have always tried to be different from each film. At a very initial stage of my career, I have done films like Ishaqzaade, then a Kill Dil and even Hasee Toh Phasee. Now, Meri Pyari Bindu is a very different experience to cherish. And now, I am shooting for Golmaal 4, which again is a very unique experience.

In these five years, what are the changes that you have experienced as an artist?
I think now, I am more confident and knowledgable about the technical aspects of film making. I have more insight on lights and camera. I have also learned how to strike a balance between personal and professional life. Earlier, I used to only work hard and never gave enough time to my personal life. But, now I know how important it is to strike a balance between the two.

I have always been a very practical and realistic person - Ayushmann Khurrana | Exclusive Interview

There is no doubt about the fact that Ayushmann Khurrana is one of the finest artists that we have in the industry today. Over the years, Khurrana has worked hard and proved his mettle not just as an actor, but also as a successful singer, composer, host, writer among others. Right from his debut in the award winning Vicky Donor, Delhi ka munda Khurrana has consistently raised the bar for himself. After earning accolades for his performance in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and winning hearts with popular singles like Yahin hoon main and Ik Vaari, Khurrana is all set to wow the audience in the avatar of a writer - Abhimanyu Roy. As Meri Pyaari Bindu releases today, we catch up with Ayushmann Khurrana, who discusses films, family and life in an exclusive interview with Diary of a Dancebee. Excerpts from a candid chat:

You are seen playing a Bengali character in Meri Pyaari Bindu. What were the aspects or nuances that you picked up for this role?
I strongly believe that I am half Bengali! I have a Punjabi body with a Bengali soul (smiles). This time, when I went to Kolkata for Meri Pyaari Bindu, I discovered certain things about the city. First was Rabindra Sangeet. I heard some of the songs and have started liking it. I have also read many Bengali novels. Among them, Chokher Bali is my favourite. I have also noticed that in Kolkata two cities exist. The night life of Kolkata is very active. Park Street is so alive throughout the night. Then, there is North Kolkata, where one can see the old heritage buildings standing for hundreds of years. People over there don't want to change anything, as they want to preserve the heritage and culture.

How come you haven't gone behind the mic for this film?
I knew this from the beginning that I am not going to sing in this film. Here, the singer is Parineeti aka Bindu. Even in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, I haven't sung at all. There, I was a big Kumar Sanu fan, but never sang. Sometimes, I truly believe the singer should take a backseat, and the actor should come in the forefront.

I strongly believe that I am half Bengali! I have a Punjabi body with a Bengali soul

Tell us a little bit about your affair with the music.
My passion for music started off with pure, filmy songs. I remember the first Hindi film I watched on big screen was Tezaab. I used to keep chanting 'Mohini Mohini' for a long time. That was the time when we used to hire Colour TV and VCR  to watch movies at home. Then, I watched Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Baazigar. Songs from these films impressed me. Later on, when I went to college, I had some western music influence as well. At home, all of us would listen to old hindi film music. In fact, my grandmother used to sing at the Gurdwara, so that influence was definitely there. Then, I listened to Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ghulam Mustafa. My range developed in a very broad way.

How have you dealt with the failures in your professional life?
I have always been a very practical and realistic person. I detach myself from a film after the release. Also, I know failure is the best teacher anyone could have. In the last five years, I have learnt a lot and all that has certainly helped me grow. Plus, I have worked in two National Award winning films -- Vicky Donor and Dum Laga Ke Haisha. So, that feels great!

Failure is the best teacher anyone could have

From Vicky Donor to Meri Pyaari Bindu, you have created your own space in the industry. How do you look at your journey so far?
I guess, you need to play in your own space within the industry. Do something which people are not expecting you to do. I am a commercial film hero, but my focus has always been on doing something different. Once, I remember Aditya Chopra telling me that an extension of my real life should come up on the screen. When you do different roles in your career, you should also feel the change within.

You are one of the few actors from the recent lot to have experienced fatherhood quite early. How do you take time out for the family, in between a hectic schedule?
Yes! Probably, also the youngest father in the industry (smiles). Well, I am definitely not strict or tough with my kids. I am hardly in the city. Earlier, I was not being able to give much time to them. However, now that my family has moved with me to Mumbai, I plan to spend more time with them.

As the 70th edition of Festival de Cannes kicked off earlier this week, we couldn't help but excitedly wait for our Indian divas to take over the red carpet. The fashion fever kicked off with Hollywood's favourite new darling - Deepika Padukone, who was back at the French Riviera after a few years (remember her debut in 2010, when she donned a white and gold Rohit Bal saree?) and this time, she was ready to create some serious waves. This year, she was welcomed as the new global brand ambassador for L'Oreal Paris. We take a look at all the outfits sported by the stunner, and also pick our favourites.

She came, she saw, and she conquered the red carpet. It was her sixteenth year at the Cannes, and boy! There was no stopping Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The green eyed beauty has already created some serious social media frenzy, with her red carpet look from Day 1 becoming an instant hit on the internet. When she wasn't busy slaying it at the French Riviera with her gorgeousness, Mrs Bachchan spent quality time with her little princess - Aaradhya, who is already following Mama's footsteps quite closely and looked adorable in a custom Gauri & Nainika outfit.
Stepping out in one stunning look after another, Aishwarya proved why she is and will always be the undisputed queen. We have got all of Aishwarya's looks from Cannes 2017, right here! Pick your favourites, folks.

The #DancebeeFashion Pick - This was a tough choice, since we had quite a few favourites. However, the dreamy couture ball gown by Filipino designer Michael Cinco on Day 1 wins hands down. I mean, just look at her! Aishwarya channeled her inner princess and brought the good ol' Cinderella story to life in the powder blue gown, as she posed like a pro, blew air kisses, gracefully walked and twirled in this gorgeous outfit. With minimal make up and straight hair, the overall look was a complete winner. BRB, while we try to wake up from our fairytale fashion dreams!

From winning a National award to turning entrepreneur with her own fashion line - Rheson, the year clearly belongs to Sonam Kapoor. And when it comes to her fashionable appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, there is no stopping Sonam. Year after year, the actress has made us proud with her incredible red carpet choices, which go on to create a strong buzz in the international media as well. This year too, Sonam made a stylish splash at the French Riviera with some breathtakingly beautiful looks. We can't get over how stunning she looked in all her outfits. Right from the make up to accessories and her hair, we couldn't stop raving about it all. We gotta give it to Sonam for raising the bar at Cannes (and almost every other red carpet event) with her fabulous sartorial choices, every single year. Kudos to the Kapoor sisters - Sonam and Rhea Kapoor (the latter being her stylist) for taking risks and changing the way we look at fashion. Here's a round up of all the looks sported by our favourite fashionista at Cannes 2017!

The #DancebeeFashion Pick: We are head over heels in love with this look! Sonam Kapoor was a picture of grace and elegance in this stunning embroidered outfit, with lovely sleeves and a train. The custom haute couture blush pink gown by Elie Saab looked like a dream on her. Stunning pair of customised earrings and hath-phool by Kalyan Jewellers added a nice, desi-glam touch. Make up (by MUA Namrata Soni) was dreamy, with soft pink lips and highlighted cheeks, which complimented her outfit very well. We also loved how the wispy hair updo added a unique charm to the overall look. And of course, her charming smile was enough to light up the red carpet.

Back to Basics | Summer Essentials

Some summer trends may come and go, but certain basic essentials will always be in vogue. Especially those from your summer side of the wardrobe. As the temperature shoots up, all our favourite tees, comfortable denims, shorts and comfy shoes make a comeback. There will always be that one pair of jeans you will never get enough of, or a crisp white shirt that has been your wardrobe staple since forever. Every girl has got a list of basics that they can't do without. Well, needless to say, I have got mine too. Here are some basic pieces that should make it's way into your wardrobe:

A white crew neck tee
Pair of well fitted Blue Jeans
A crisp white shirt
Pair of pumps (either nude or black. I prefer the former)
A bright coloured bag
Pair of flat sandals in a neutral colour
A statement watch
Pair of sunglasses
A basic denim jacket (In summer - mostly for the cinemas)
A pair of white sneakers

The most basic yet timeless look that I swear by would be the white shirt / tee + blue denim combination. It is the most versatile look that can be amped up with a bold lip, statement eyes or just, some really cool accessories. Plus, you can easily take it from day to night by switching from your sneakers to a pair of pumps. However, I like to take the minimalist route. A statement watch and pair of sunglasses are the only two accessories I need to complete my favourite summer look. For winter, I like to layer this look with a jacket or even a long trench.

I am not future obsessed - Sushant Singh Rajput | Exclusive Interview

$

While most of his contemporaries are busy running the multiple crore club race, Sushant Singh Rajput is carving a niche for himself. The 31-year-old is in a league of his own, miles away from the BO number game. He is focussed, determined and a storyteller in his own right. With multiple interesting projects in his kitty, Sushant (or SSR as he is called) is clearly the rising superstar of Bollywood. On a busy weekday evening, we caught up with SSR in between a hectic day of promotions. The actor, dressed in relaxed casuals, has been busy with multiple promotional activities for his upcoming romantic - drama Raabta, where he will be seen essaying two completely different characters. In fact, during the conversation, he confessed to have had goosebumps while talking about the experience of working on this film. Leaving the unnecessary controversies aside, we settled down for a relaxed chat with the talented actor. Excerpts from our tete-a-tete:

Was it a challenge to essay two completely different characters in the same film?
See, I am being very honest you. I find myself very boring. There are times when I hangout with my friends, where a house party is going on and suddenly I become very interesting with all my guy friends. But, the next morning, I am back to being my boring self again. So, that few seconds of my exciting self was this first character, the contemporary one. So, I could be the exciting version of myself in those 3-4 months and I get paid for it, which was a good thing (smiles). Then, I had a short gap for 3-4 months to prepare for my next character. However, there was no reference for it. He is so animalistic. This character is wired with the most fundamental basic wiring that we are all made of – survival. He would kill or get killed.  That's how he operates. Suddenly, in those 20 minutes, I have to prove I am like that and show that I am being put in a situation, where I am dealing with these emotions for the first time. Something that I have never dealt with and stuff that changes many things without completely drastically changing myself. He is suddenly becoming human. The character was filled with aspects and situations that I have personally not dealt with. Honestly, I didn’t know how to do it. I didn’t know how to fight like somebody who would be known for his fighting skills. The mannerisms, voice; everything was so different. It was quite a challenge.

In your career so far, you have opted for unconventional films and roles. How do you approach such characters or prepare for it?
Acting is a very delicate job. I have to convince you that I am somebody else. You know I am not Dhoni or Byomkesh, but because you are playing someone for that 2 - 3 hours, I have to create an illusion for you that I am somebody else. In a film like Raabta, it gets much more trickier. Just when I have made you believe that I am someone like Shiv, in the next 20 minutes I have convince you again that I am somebody else too. Hence, in the same time span, I have to use all my tools and skills as an actor to make sure that there is not an iota of similarity between the two characters. So, that’s what I have tried to do in this film.

My character (Raabta) was filled with aspects and situations that I have personally not dealt with

Fan Question

The film is a modern take on reincarnation. Basically, what we are trying to portray is - if there is something called as pure love, it doesn’t dilute with time. So, be it one life or multiple lives. Even if you don’t remember what happened in the previous life, you have a tendency to get close to someone without any reason. You just don’t like somebody without any reason. At the same time, during flashback, you would see everything that is there in those 20 – 24 minutes. The world, those people; everything we see and are dealing with in that world has been created from scratch. Both the characters that I essay in this film talk and behave differently. In the same way, there is no similarity between the past life and the present life. But, if you look through things, still, everything is connected.

Portraying a demanding character on screen tends to leave an actor exhausted. You have essayed two such characters in your latest film. Did the process get physically taxing?
Its always physically taxing, because you almost give close to 8-9 months of your life playing a certain character. You are thinking in a different way and also changing the pattern of your thinking. It is definitely a exhausting process. However, things have been slightly different for me. In the initial 19-20 years of my life, before I started doing theatre, I realised that I act like a certain person. When I talk to you, I have a certain perception of myself and I act according to that. So, it just started getting quite boring. I thought, this is just one kind of acting that I have been doing. So, let me act like two - three different personalities every year and get paid. So, I started acting (laughs). See, it does get taxing. But, having said that, there are skills that you need to develop for each and every film. Like in Dhoni, it was cricket. In my next film, I go to Nasa and almost become an astronaut. Its just that I wont land on the moon (smiles).

Acting is a very delicate job. I have to convince you that I am somebody else

Was there any specific training that you had to go through, especially for your second character?
One of the skills I had to develop was Martial Arts. That's primarily because just before my character is introduced in the film, during the flashback, the audience (and characters in the film) are introduced to the other guy, who is established because of his fighting skills. I have 50 – 60 seconds in the film to prove that I am such a great fighter. So, we had to ensure the skills were next level. We went to Bangkok and stayed there for a month. Everyday, I went through 12 hours of weapon training.. Let me tell you that I have already had a basic training in martial arts much before I started doing TV, but I never got the chance to show it. But, despite the basic training, we were investing 12 hours everyday for month. Just for those 50 seconds, where we have to create the illusion that the story you have been told is right and he is a good fighter.

Fan Question

Of course, it has to be the story. I think the most important thing is, there should be something I should not completely comprehend or understand. Hence, in order to understand that, I will do the film. If I already know how to do it, I will never do it. No matter how commercially viable the film is, I will not touch it. I will give you an example for it. So, when MS Dhoni released, I had three films back to back. I was suppose to shoot for it immediately, but for some reason, the film (Paani) that I was suppose to shoot for right after Dhoni’s release didn’t start. I had already prepared for close to 10 months for this film. Suddenly, I had a gap of 3-4 months in between. During this period, many filmmakers, including some who I really wanted to work with, came with their scripts. Somehow, those scripts were not appealing to me. Something was missing.. I knew that I couldn’t do it, so I didn’t do it. Also, I was preparing for a play. I could have done any of those films and probably there was 50-50% chances of them being successful. Plus, I would have definitely got a pay cheque for it which would have been huge. Saying no to that for a play, which nobody has seen till now, just tells me something about myself. The very fact that I need those 3-4 months of excitement where I should not know how to do things and I just try to figure it out. You see, the process has to be exciting. So, this is one thing I definitely want in a script to say yes to it. If you see all those films that I have signed, and the 4-5 other projects that are coming up after this, there is something that will make you wanna ask - how will he do it? That is exactly what I would like to ask myself. And, that is why I am doing it (smiles).

In my next film, I go to Nasa and almost become an astronaut. Its just that I won't land on the moon

Many actors continue to dread the arrival of Friday, which marks the day of their film's release. What is your state of mind during the opening weekend of your film?
Well, I have worked very hard for all the 54 characters that I have essayed, which includes the ones from both theatre and films. Now, if you look at my films. For Byomkesh... I had worked a lot. The d-day arrived, it didn't get a good opening. Weekend was miserable. By Monday, I was completely okay. I wasn't even forcing myself to act normal. For MS Dhoni too, I had worked hard. The film got a fantastic opening, and continued to do well during the weekend. But, it was the same feeling on Monday again. Ideally, I should have been flipping, but I was very normal. So, I cannot let these 2-3 days of spike affect the 7-8 months that I have invested in a film. I am not future obsessed at all. I don't think about Friday, because I know I am gonna be normal by Monday. But, during those 7-8 months of hard work, if I don't get something right, I can't sleep. It's not that I have to prove a point to something or someone, it's just very personal. So, I am always very concerned about the process.

What is that one thing you love about being a star?
Honestly, I don't look at it that way. People may look at me as a star if I have given a hit today. Tomorrow, if two films don't do well, they may not consider me a star. So, people's perception keeps changing. In my head, the day when I dropped out of my college in the third year, despite knowing it was a premiere institution and I could have stayed there for another year to earn a degree. But, I didn't do that. Somehow, I mustered up the courage to drop out. I went on to dance behind Aishwarya Rai and Shahid Kapoor, which made me very happy. So, the day I decided to follow my dream and do something that I really wanted to do, I was a star. From that day in 2006 to now, there is not a single day where I have regretted my decision. I have enjoyed every day of my life and enjoyed being a superstar (smiles).

I cannot let these 2-3 days of spike (opening weekend at BO) affect the 7-8 months that I have invested in a film

You have a great connect with your fans, especially with frequent chats on social media platforms.
I was a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan, and I still am. He is the only actor whose autograph I always wanted. When I came to Mumbai, I went to the sets of Swades, just to get an autograph from him, which was an unsuccessful attempt. Due to some reason, I couldn't meet him and felt very bad about it. Few years later, while performing at an award function as a background dancer, we were at technical rehearsals. Shah Rukh was there and suddenly, he just turned. I said hi, to which he replied with a 'Hi'. Now, he normally says 'Hi' to ten thousand people everyday. But, it was such a big deal for me, that even ten years later, I am telling you this story (smiles). So, I know the importance of just looking at a fan for an extra second, waving at them, or probably writing down something. I make sure I do this, just so that they have something that they can talk about.

From a student at DCE to venturing into an unknown territory, that of acting, how would you look back at your journey so far?
I was a good student, and got quite a few scholarship offers from international universities to study there. It does guarantee you a certain amount of money per annum and all other perks, but not a job security. So, you have to slog. Every time I used to work for that kind of money, I would end up slogging, but never liked the feeling. But, when I was in my first year, I started dancing with the Shiamak Davar Dance Company. I was dancing behind all the stars, and although I knew nobody was looking at me, I quite liked the feeling. Then, Shiamak asked me to join theatre. Till then, I was a very shy, introvert guy. The first time when I was on stage, and saw people getting affected by my act, I felt very powerful. It was a magical feeling. The very fact that they connect with what I am saying is a feeling I experienced for the first time in nineteen years. That is something that has stayed with me since 2006. Nothing has changed. So, the feeling of working on a character like Dhoni is very similar to when I started out doing Shakespeare back then. The excitement is still the same.

Watch | When Shah Rukh Khan got pranked and taught us how to Keep Calm, like a Boss!

You don't mess with a legend, alright! And Shah Rukh Khan is certainly one of them. But, Egypt based host Ramez Galal took a chance and invited SRK over for a fake chat show, which was followed by a crazy prank that left the actor fuming. Galal's Ramez Tahl El Ard (Ramez Underground) is a rather controversial reality show, where celebrities are pranked in some seriously scary situations. Several celebrities including Antonio Banderas and Paris Hilston have been pranked by Galal in the past, and this time, he had none other than King Khan.

The episode kicks off with Galal interviewing Khan in what like a fake chat show (a fake one, of course). After wrapping up the shoot, Khan is seen leaving the premises for a safari. He leaves in a 4x4, accompanied by three other people. After a smooth ride through the desert, the car loses control and comes to a halt. Within minutes, the car starts sinking into an area surrounded by quicksand. Two men and a female assistant, the trio who accompanied Khan, are seen trembling with fear and trying to escape.

It is commendable how throughout the apparent disaster, SRK was calm and composed. Instead of screaming or adding up to the confusion (which according to viewers of the show, many other participants have often resorted to), the actor is seen helping his co-passengers. He is constantly seen pulling them up and asking them to keep calm. While one man vanished, Khan ensured the other two were around him and did not let go of them. However, that's not all! What happens next is sure to blow your mind. We shall leave that for you to watch, of course.

Needless to say, Khan lost his cool when he found out the reality behind this set up. Initially, he felt aghast, but that soon turned into disgust, as the actor said, "This is nonsense! You got me all the way from India to do this?" While Galal kept pleading Khan to forgive him, with the constant "I love you" and "You are my hero," the actor did not budge. He walked away with his team. Though, we did see a smirk on his face, as he watched Galal's antics. However, if Galal's instagram account is anything to go by, it looks like Khan finally managed to forgive the prankster!

So, we don't know if the prank was scripted or not, but we gotta give it to SRK for being such a great sport. Khan has always left us awe-inspired, and this episode is yet another fine example. Kudos to SRK for being the real hero and rescuing his co-passengers, even if it was for a prank (although in that situation, he wasn't really aware). Also, how did he manage to stay so calm? If anyone of us were in his place, the scenario would have been more like - "Dayum boy! All hell just broke lose and ain't nobody gonna be spared."
But, that's SRK for you. They call him 'Badshah' for a reason!

Raabta | Film Review

$
0
0
For his debut venture as a director, Dinesh Vijan helms a film which brings together passionate lovers, who have been crossing various hurdles and challenges of life. With a tagline that goes - Everything is connected, you know you are in for something interesting. The film stays true to the tagline, with a twist of reincarnation. Shiv (Sushant Singh Rajput) and Saira (Kriti Sanon) cross paths and instantly feel a connection with each other. It’s all hunky dory, until someone from the past ruins their happiness.

The film begins with our Punjabi boy flying to Europe for work. It is here Shiv meets the love of his life - Saira, who makes chocolates. Shiv is a lady killer, while Saira is a single, young, vibrant baker, who often gets some weird dreams in the night. As Shiv and Saira go on to happily romance each other, a twist comes in the form of Zak Merchant (Jim Sarbh), who opens the door to a parallel universe.  He is the answer to all the questions that arise in the first half. However, just when you think it’s all going well, the film becomes a little too predictable in the second half. To know where life leads Shiv, Saira and Zak next, you gotta watch the film!

Sushant Singh Rajput has once again proved that he can make you believe in any character he plays on screen. There is surely no iota of similarity in both the characters he has portrayed in the film. His performance is clearly one of the biggest strengths of this film. Kriti Sanon had a tough time putting her act together, especially when compared to Rajput and Sarbh. After an excellent performance in Neerja, Sarbh brings in the dark and intense feel to the film with his performance.  He has a unique dialogue delivery, which helped his character to come across as strong and impactful. He is intense and mysterious, thus essaying an obsessive lover bang on. Both Rajput and Sanon display crackling chemistry, which definitely stands out. The cameo by Rajkumar Rao (as an old character) and Deepika Padukone’s guest appearance in the title track were both refreshing and interesting.

In the technical space, the film has good VFX and costumes. The make up is great. Music is interesting and the casting is on point. However, the biggest highlight here would the fabulous background score by Sachin-Jigar. It sets the mood right throughout the film.

Although, Raabta had all the elements of a successful commercial film, somewhere, we felt there was something amiss. You know, how despite having all the other products in place, one missing spice can ruin a dish? That’s exactly what goes wrong here. There is no soul or connect in the film. The storyline was lacklustre. A film like Raabta could have certainly done with a much stronger story and screenplay. It could have only taken the film a notch higher. More so, for the fabulous performances delivered by the cast, especially Rajput and Sarbh.

Verdict: If the storyline doesn't bother you much, go ahead & watch Raabta for the artists. Especially Sushant Singh Rajput, who shines as both a warrior and lover.

How to Save Money | Beginners Finance 101

Savings - sounds like a big word, isn’t it? As teens, we have all been through the phase of dreading any conversation related to savings or future investments. However, it’s always a good idea to start focusing on the basics of saving money a little early in life. It all starts with a piggy bank, where we saved up whatever little money we earned through small tasks or activities. I remember earning my first pay cheque, a modest amount of Rs 100, for my debut dubbing assignment at the age of 7 - 8, and my joy knew no bounds. I felt like I could buy so many things. Until reality struck and I understanding how things actually work. So, I was told to deposit the cheque in my ‘cubs’ account (the bank had introduced a special account for kids back then), so that I could keep it safe and use it for something more ‘important’. Times changed, I continued to work on various assignments and went on to explore new opportunities. During my teens, the process of taking someone’s help to deposit money and understand the functions of a bank continued. However, with every passing year, the responsibilities increased and I began exploring various aspects of banking, saving, budgeting among others. Thankfully, all this wasn’t much of a burden, as I began my prep quite early.

I realised it was all much easier, thanks to the fact that I created a simple a process and routine. For beginners, tracking your payments, creating budgets and saving money isn’t rocket science. And you don’t need thousands of rupees to start with. Even saving up Rs 5 everyday can add up to Rs 1825 a year. That can buy you some of your favourite drugstore make up items or a dress that you have been eyeing for too long. Read on, as we share a simple routine for beginners, that can help you track, prioritise and save.

Maintain a Finance Planner
It can be a book or even an app. Though, I personally prefer maintaining a finance or budget planner, which can help track everyday expenses. This is important, as it can not only help you calculate your daily expenditure, but also maintain an account of the amount you require for basic necessities every month. Plus, you can highlight items where you can try saving money. For e.g: Walk that 1km distance instead of taking a rickshaw. Unless it is raining or you simply cannot walk due to a genuine reason, of course.

Create a Monthly Budget
Setting a budget is easy, but sticking to it is the biggest nightmare! But, it is a must for everyone out there, especially beginners. If you can’t ace budgeting now, what will you do when you actually get to the next stage? Budgeting for beginners will mostly involve sticking to the amount you have reserved for the month, and not going overboard (or asking your Dad for extra pocket money). For those like me who have started working early, you might want to ensure you prioritise and stick to buying only the most important stuff on your list. For e.g: If I had some amount reserved for a project, I decided to let that gorgeous pair of sneakers go. I can’t use an amount reserved for something else and splurge on sneakers, only to go overboard with my budget by the end of the month. I tell myself - “If those sneakers are meant to be mine, they will come back to me when I have saved enough for it.” In most cases, things did work out in my favour.

S for Savings
This is where it all begins. Once you start maintaining weekly / monthly records and stick to a budget, you can start a simple plan for savings. Like I said, it need not be huge. For starters, you can try and reserve anywhere between 10 - 20% of your total amount for savings. Collect that amount and keep it away. It can be in your bank, a box or any place that you consider safe (by safe, I mean even from your own prying eyes). If you think you are unable to save up even 5% of your total money, then you need to consider cutting down on your expenses. And no, by that, I don’t mean shunning everything in life. You just gotta be smart! Here are a few ideas:

Honestly, the list is endless!

Set Goals and Save
The best way to achieve something is to set practical goals and work towards earning the reward. For e.g: If you have been eyeing a guitar for long, now is the time. Create a chart in your book and set a target amount. Create a plan for the next 3,6 or 9 months (according to the amount you can save) and work towards reaching your target. Nothing beats the joy of bringing home something special with your hard earned / saved money.

Check Quarterly Progress
For beginners, a quarterly progress on budgeting, prioritising and savings is good enough. As you follow the records and look back at your performance, you will feel motivated to work on new ideas, that can help increase your monthly savings. Sometimes, even a jump from Rs 5 to 7 can make a difference. So, don’t hesitate.

The process maybe pretty simple for beginners, but the road ahead is not easy. Especially once you start working / establish your own business, and additional responsibilities take over. Suddenly, it’s not just about savings anymore. Enter terms like investments, insurance, policies and once again, everything starts sounding very complicated. But, what’s life without growing and learning something new at every step, right? Fortunately, companies like Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance offer complete solution to all your queries and ensure every aspect of their plans are decoded clearly. Always wanted to explore Republic of Maldives - the beautiful tropical nation blessed by Indian ocean all around, but never got the chance? Or, you couldn’t plan an itinerary that could be perfect for your next holiday family? Well, we’ve got you covered in this post.

If you are currently planning a vacation or jotting down ideas for the next big trip, we would highly recommend that you experience the sunny side of life at Maldives. Sun, sand, fun activities, markets and more; Maldives is all this and so much more. However, apart from the water sports and beach attractions which Maldives is well known for, you must check out the local markets and key landmarks in and around the capital island city - Malè. Take out your notepads and pens to create the perfect itinerary for your next trip, as we list some of the best activities and must visit attractions.

Hukuru Miskiiy
Also known as the Malè Old Friday Mosque, Hukuru Miskiiy is one of the oldest mosques in the country, dating back to seventeenth century. Built using coral stones, which display intricate designs, carvings and fine Maldivian artwork like wood carvings and lacquer work. The mosque, built approximately in 1658, is considered to be a testament of the Maldivian craftsmanship, and is also declared as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Sultan Park
If all you wanna you do is laze around and soak in the sunshine in a peaceful atmosphere (and if you get a little bored with those frequent beach strolls), visit the beautiful Sultan Park. Located near the Republic Monument in Malè, the park is a quaint little place to relax and unwind, after a long day of sightseeing.

National Museum
Get a peek into the history of Maldives by visiting the National Museum, which is situated a little close to Sultan Park. While the museum was built in 1952, it got a major makeover and was re-opened in 2010. One gets to see several artefacts, relics as well as items associated with the Maldivian royalty. The museum has preserved a decent amount of items, making this a must visit place for those who love a slice of history.

Tsunami Monument
If you are taking a stroll around the south-west corner of Malè, which is an otherwise peaceful and quaint area, we suggest you pay a visit to the Tsunami Monument. Built as a tribute to the victims of the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004, the monument is silent reminder of the devastating calamity. Spend a few minutes in silence and pay a heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives.

Water Sports
For most people, no visit to Maldives is complete without water sports. There are tons of options to choose from, some of the best being the packages offered by Dive Club. Take your pick from an array of options ranging from diving, snorkelling and more. If adventure ain’t your thing, you can try fishing or opt for a boat tour.

Explore Local Markets
If shopping tops your agenda, especially fresh fruits and fish, then look no further! The local markets in Malè are well known for their fresh produce. Choose from the Local Market for tropical fruits, organic vegetables or the Fish Market for super fresh fish.

How to travel?
Various airlines operate regular flights to Malè International Airport, which is well connected to almost all metro cities in India. Non-stop flights from Mumbai take approximately 5 hours to reach Malè, after which, you can opt for a speed boat or other services from the ferry terminal to reach the capital island city. Ensure you get the flight bookings done well in advance to avail decent discounts / offers.
