Here’s why we think Sleeping Ugly is cool! | Sofy Bodyfit Overnight

As a little kid, we have all been fed a healthy diet of picture perfect fairytales. The main protagonist would be an epitome of perfection. She would eat, work, dress up and even sleep so perfectly, that it would put most other girls in her kingdom to shame. But as we grew up, we realised that life is not a chapter out of our favourite fairytale. Life is a real struggle and being perfect all the time is close to impossible. No one is born perfect, so why should you live under the pressure of being perfect all the time? Even while sleeping, eh?

It gets crazy during periods. You maybe a stomach sleeper or someone who likes dozing off in the ‘marathon’ position. But, during those five days, everybody gets into the commando mode - Savdhaan! Well, ask yourself - Do you really want to disturb your sleeping pattern and position every month this way? Is it really worth it, in order to be all perfect and avoid staining sheets, to not enjoy a peaceful sleep? Let me break the bubble for you. Sleeping Ugly is cool and totally okay. By choosing the correct night pad, you can stretch, twist, turn and enjoy a good night’s sleep. Sleeping with your regular Day sanitary pad is not a really good idea (there is a reason it is referred to as a Day pad, right?) Night pads come with a wider back, which keeps you feeling fresh and comfortable and enjoy a good sleep. It helps, since no one likes a pad that keeps shifting here, there and everywhere, leading to leaks and a lot of inconvenience (plus, no sleep). We were recently introduced to the all new Sofy Bodyfit Overnight, and were challenged to swap our regular sanitary pad with the new launch, which is known to be one of India’s longest night pads. Challenges excite us, and reviewing new launches is part of our job. But, does the product live up to all that it promises? We got our team member - Neha, to try out the product. She shared her thoughts with us after her last period, and here’s a round up:

What? - Sofy Bodyfit Overnight (Sanitary Pad)
Price: Rs 79 (Pack of 5)

Available in: 350mm / XXL (Packs of 5 and 10) and 420mm / XXXL (Pack of 3)

What does it promise? - The napkin is specially designed for leakage protection at night. It is the longest pad available in India, thanks to the wider hip guard, that covers your panty from back and gives maximum coverage, thus preventing stains/leakage.

Packaging: Inside the main packet, each pad comes in a disposable cover, which makes it super easy to carry while traveling as well.

Our Experience: We tried the XXL pack (350mm) and were quite impressed with the wide hip-guard. It covers the panty well, especially from the back. This helps, especially those who twist and turn a lot during their sleep (our team member who tried the product is one of them) or those who doze off in any of these positions - starfish, sleep-fighter, crash-lander among others. These pads have a mild fragrance, which helps keeps the period odour away. The pad was thin, not too bulky. One thing that gives this product an edge above it’s competitors is the fact that the super adhesive (on both wings and side wings) ensure that the pad fits perfectly. Thanks to the super comfy dry cover, the pad did not cause any irritation or discomfort,. The product, armed with a double absorbent coat, does it’s job well (even on Day 2, when things literally lead to a blood bath), ensuring there is no leakage.

Verdict: The Sofy Bodyfit Overnight pad lives up to all the promises very well, at an affordable price. While major points are subject to an individual’s flow (that’s the case with every pad in the market), we think you should give this one a try, especially if you are bored of trying itchy sanitary pads with a plastic layer.

A Weaver of Dreams | Exclusive Interview - Sabyasachi Mukherjee

We are yet to come across any woman who hasn't confessed that she would love to be a 'Sabyasachi Bride' on her big day. Ace designer Sabyasachi, who pioneered the use of Indian textiles by using unusual fabrics, gorgeous embellishments and diverse colour palettes, is back with a showcase to remember at the ongoing Lakmè Fashion Week W/F 2016. As the grand finale designer, Sabyasachi is ready to bring out the best of evening wear for the festive season, with all things shimmer and shine, at an off site show that will be held at Mehboob Studios this Sunday.
On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, we caught up with Sabyasachi in between long hours at fittings, that had ensured some major hubbub. Unfazed by it all, we saw the designer quietly concentrating on his work, all this while being under the weather. But, the designer ensured that our conversation would be a memorable one. And, it sure was. Excerpts from our exclusive chat with the award winning designer:

Several fans and fashionistas wait with bated breath for your showcase. What can they look forward to at the Lakmè Fashion Week Grand Finale?
The finale always has to be larger than life. So, I have done an extensive collection, which is going to be both Indian and western at the same time. Silhouettes shall range from short, micro mini cocktail dresses to stately sarees and lehengas. It's all evening wear, based on the theme - Illuminate and Shine, as you wear shimmer and shine mostly at night. The collection will be broken into different stories, and there will also be a big performance by the Symphony of India Orchaestra. All this, at a wide and big set.

What do you have to say about the theme for this season - Illuminate?
India loves bling and shimmer. As we are moving towards the festive season, this theme is very well timed. In fact, we were independently planning to do a clothing line based on shimmer. We do a lot of traditional outfits and there was a need to break in to the market for cocktail clothing. So, when Lakmè approached me, asking if I would like to be the finale designer and informed that the theme would be Illuminate and Shine, I said why not! Both minds aligned at the same place and things just got easier.

Your thoughts on the all new Lakmè Absolute Illuminate range.
The make up range is extremely beautiful. You see, India tends to go either too glossy or very iridescent with make up. Illuminate is a softer take on gloss, and I think it will look much nicer on Indian skin. I personally feel that the Indian skin looks very nice with a little bit of a wet sheen or humid gloss. So, it's going to be perfect for us.

It's been more than a decade since you were discovered. How have you seen Lakmè Fashion Week and the designers involved change over the years?
Had I been discovered a decade later, I don't know if I would even stand a chance among these kids. When I came into fashion week, I did not know what a look book was and didn't even have a line sheet. I don't even know if I had prices on my outfits, leave alone tags (smiles). I wasn't even aware about the process of meeting buyers, nor did I have a laptop on me. In fact, when I got discovered, I had called my parents from a PCO. Everyone was saying great things about me, and the call dropped. So, I didn't even own a cellphone. Today, when I look at the kids, they are way smarter and organised. They have had a more aggressive education as compared to us. I have witnessed a big evolution.

What do you have to say about the melange of technology and fashion that we get to see these days?
The fact that we chose to showcase our couture collection on Instagram should tell you how much we respect technology. We have an entire social media team working for us. It's a medium that should be used to streamline, grow and democratise your business. I don't agree with the fact that technology should be used in design. As the world gets more and more globalised, people will ultimately come to you for handcrafted things. So, you can still produce handcrafted items, but retain the market through technology.

What are your thoughts on the Ministry of Textiles and Hon. minister Smriti Irani's #IWearHandloom initiative on social media?
It's a fantastic initiative. I have always said that we have a lot to celebrate in this country, but we only celebrate when the west has given us a validation. It's time that India discovers itself before the west discovers us. When somebody with a strong political will can inspire an entire nation to think Indian, it's a fantastic opportunity for all of us.

Since the wedding season is just around the corner, several fans wanted your comment on the top trends for brides.
Personally, I would always recommend that you don't think about trends. That's just not the correct way to shop for your wedding. Trends are transient, so your wedding outfits will become irrelevant in years to come. Your wedding album should stay on with you for the rest of your life. So, follow tradition and wear red & gold.

What's your trend forecast for Spring / Summer 2017?
A lot of pink pastels, monochromes and ombrè. Also, there will be lots of long, linear columns in monotones. Or, you go for something super contrast and sporty.

Akira | Film Review

Director A.R Murugadoss’ ‘Akira’ hits the screens today. And, when we say hit, we literally mean hit with all the force that Sonakshi Sinha can muster in one breath and break your shins.

Akira (Sonakshi Sinha) is first introduced as a young girl (Mishiekka Arora) who learns early on that one must correct the wrong and fight it out in the world themselves. As a result, her father (Atul Kulkarni) encourages her to learn martial arts, while her female peers are busy with dance. Way to go Dad, self-defence is the key! Akira gets into a messy situation early on and is send to a children’s reprimand home for a couple of years. As she grows up, now fatherless, she moves to Mumbai with her mother, to stay with her elder brother. And things begin to happen.

She starts a new college, probably hoping for a fresh start. But, not only does she get into the bad books of the college bully, but also manages to get involved in this massive situation involving the Mumbai Police, led by this coke-snorting, almost-always stoned ACP (Anurag Kashyap). Thereafter, the movie focuses on how she struggles to prove her innocence, one 'Akira' style slap at a time.

As the movie progresses, there is a lot of bone crunching from Sinha, as she crushes the stereotypes and becomes this badass female version of a Ghajini. Kashyap gets progressively stoned, but is definitely the comic relief among all those slaps and kicks. An interesting addition to the screen was officer Rabiya (Konkona Sen), who is portraying an honest police officer.

While the first half of Akira keeps you on your toes, the second half is when the story loses its plot. The drama escalates and there are plot twists galore. But having said that, it is commendable that AR Murugadoss decided to make this movie woman-centric, when the original Tamil version was the opposite. Clearly, the women kick ass, whether it is via Sinha’s leaping kicks or Sen’s need to find the truth.  Sinha is probably the only one who could have pulled this off, with the right expressions and some seriously amazing kicks, punches. Kashyap makes for a fine, 'stoned' cop.

Akira is not for those who want some intellectual stimulation and feel the need to leave a cinema hall with morals and values. This is one helluva bone crunching, high energy drama, with just the right tinge of laughs.

Dancebee Verdict: Sonakshi Sinha crushes it in this energetic, action-packed and highly entertaining flick!

Ganesh Utsav Tour | Top Pandals To Visit In Mumbai

It's that time of the year again, when streets of Mumbai are filled with lights, sounds of dhol-taasha and enthusiasm. The whiff of freshly made modaks and puranpolis is hard to miss, while markets are packed with people bargaining for the best deal on fresh flowers. Everybody's favourite, the adorable 'Lord Ganesha', makes his away into homes and pandals for a period of 11 blissful days. Ganesh Utsav, as the festival is popularly known as, starts on the fourth day of the Bhadrapad month in Hindu calendar, and ends on Anant Chaturdashi [fourteenth day] with Lord Ganesha's immersion procession. Mumbai glimmers and shines during these eleven wonderful days, with fairy lights and sounds of peaceful bhajans all around. During this period, several people visit their friends, families and various sarvajanik [public] pandals.

While Ganesh Chaturthi has been widely celebrated at homes even before the seventeenth century and was further celebrated on a large scale during the Shivaji Maharaj and Peshwa rule, it was only in 1893 that freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak popularised Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav. This was done as the means to unite people from all castes and thus, creating a sense of nationalism among citizens to oppose the British colonial rule. Since then, several mandals took to celebrating Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav on a large scale, year after year. Over the years, certain mandals have carved their own niche and have become extremely popular. Some are 'wish-fulfilling', while the others are well known for their celebrity attendance, unique decorations, idols and some serious grandeur. In this post, we give you a round up of some of the most popular Ganesh Pandals in Mumbai, that witness a massive footfall every year.

1. Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal [Mumbaicha Raja]
Popularly known as the Mumbai cha Raja or Ganesh Galli ganpati, the Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal will enter it's 87th year in 2016. Every year, the mandal plans a special theme for the decor and has also won several awards for the same. This year, one can witness a replica of the famous Badrinath Temple and the massive decor boasts of a 20ft+ dome, which was installed with the help of a crane. The 22+ ft Mumbai cha Raja idol will be seen in a Vishnu avatar, standing atop a huge lotus. The mandal is involved in a variety of charitable causes as well. The highlight of this year is a special tribute, the mandal will invite members from several sections of public services in Maharashtra, including the Fire Brigade unit, nurses at KEM, Postal Department, Police among others, as special guests for the aarti. The mandal witnesses massive footfall every day, with the crowd swelling during the last three days.

2. Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal
Known as the 'Navsacha Raja' or 'Wish fulfilling' Ganesha globally, the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal is one of the most popular pandals in Mumbai. Started in 1934 because of a vow fulfilled for the creation of the Lalbaug Market, the mandal has now entered it's 82nd year. Lakhs of devotees visit the pandal for a glimpse of the 'Raja' everyday. Devotees whose wish has been fulfilled the previous year opt for the 'Navas' queue, which lasts for close to 24 hours or even more. The pandal is open for darshan 24x7, with celebrities and locals coming in for the special evening aarti everyday. The idol has been sculpted by the Kambli family for the past eight decades.

3. GSB Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav (King's Circle)
The GSB Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal at King's Circle celebrates the festival for a period of five days. This is one of the first mandals to introduce a 'skywalk' darshan facility, for those who need a quick glimpse of the lord. Various pujas are conducted all day long, starting from 6 am onwards and going right up to 11 pm. The special attraction here is the fact that this huge idol is made entirely of clay and is adorned with pure gold, silver jewellery every year. Devotees can also participate in pujas, tulabhar [weighing scale] seva or enjoy the entertainment programmes conducted by folk artists. Do not miss the special bhog prasad [food] which is served to all the devotees post aarti, twice a day.

4. Azad Nagar Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal [Andhericha Raja]
Popularly known as the Andheri cha Raja, the mandal is well known for it's unique temple inspired themes every year. While they celebrated their golden jubilee last year with a monumental replica of the famous Ambaji temple [Gujarat], the decor this year will resemble Konkan's popular Kunkaneshwar Temple [Malvan]. Started in 1966 by blue collared workers of Lalbaug, who had then moved to Andheri, Andheri cha Raja keep their idol for fifteen days and are among the few mandals that immerse the lord on Sankashti Chaturthi i.e four days after Anant Chaturdashi. This mandal too witnesses major footfall and has won several awards for their marvellous decor in the past.

5. Tejukaya Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Trust
Situated within the Tejukaya chawl premises, the Tejukaya Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal has created it's own niche in the past 49 years, thus becoming one of the popular mandals in the area and city. Started by the residents of Tejukaya Chawl in 1967, the unique fact about this mandal is their idol, which is presented in a different avatar every year, with the exact same facial features. 2016 is a special year for the committee and residents of the Tejukaya chawl, as the mandal will celebrate it's Golden Jubilee with a special 22ft idol. One can also see a special dome, massive gate and carved elephant structures that shall be placed on both sides of the entry lane. Since the chawl will also undergo redevelopment later this year [which means the mandal can celebrate their next Ganesh Utsav only once the project is complete], it is truly a special celebration for the residents!

6. GSB Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav [Ram Mandir, Wadala]
Popularly known as the 'Gold Ganesha', the GSB Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal at Wadala celebrates Ganesh Utsav for eleven days, with pujas and special aartis conducted every hour. It is also widely known as one of the first mandals to ensure their idol and all the gold ornaments, which are both created by the trust and donated by devotees. The mandal organises special folk entertainment, with plays, bhajans and dance performances going on all day. The 'Ratri Pooja' or 'Night aarti' should not be missed, as the sounds of traditional instruments and rituals will give you goosebumps [in a good way].

Some other popular mandals in Mumbai include:
Keshavji Naik Chawl (Girgaum) - Mumbai's first ganesh mandal

Fort Vibhag Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal (Fort) - Known as Icchapurti Ganesh, among the first ones to have their own mandal dedicated song

Sahyadri Krida Mandal (Chembur) - One of the most popular and award winning mandal in South Central Mumbai, best known for it's grand decor and larger than life themes

Girgaum cha Maharaj (Girgaum) - One of the tallest and oldest clay idols in Mumbai

Lal Maidan Ganpati [Parel] - This year, their biggest attraction will be the Mastani Mahal inspired pandal

Parel cha Raja [Parel] - Well known for supporting various charitable and social causes. Also known for spreading messages supporting the environment

So, which pandal will you be visiting this year? Team Dancebee will be visiting most of these pandals in 2016. Come, meet us and say hello or follow our live updates on Twitter and Snapchat (ID: @priyaadivarekar)

7 Reasons Why Opposites Attract | Relationships

$

“Opposites attract, and I think temperament is so fundamental that you end up craving someone of the opposite temperament to complete you.” – Susan Cain

As believers of the scientifically proven theory that opposites do attract, we completely swear by American writer Cain’s belief. And not just us. One look at some of our favorite Bollywood couples, and you will realise that the most successful relationships have had couples with personalities that are poles apart. What’s a relationship without some sugar and spice? Nobody likes ‘em all sweet or spicy anyway. After all, even a 2013 research by Columbia University has proved that couples who agree with each other all the time may find that they are actually too close for comfort. Nah! We would prefer to keep it exciting instead.

Don’t believe us? Well, we give you 7 reasons why opposites attract and that too, for good!

  • Curiosity: Living with someone who is exactly like you may initially seem like a better option, but wouldn't it be like living with yourself? Being intrigued and then, getting to know something new about your partner’s personality sounds like a much better idea. There is so much more to life than just knowing what you already do.
  • Learning: When opposites attract, there is a lot of scope for learning and teaching one another. Both the individuals have had experiences to share and mistakes to learn from. It’s great to grow together and learn from each other.
  • No Overlaps: If you like watching films, he may love going out for a long drive. Which means, both of you can indulge in activities without major overlaps (or fights over control of the television remote). Isn’t that convincing enough?
  • Motivation: Each partner may excel in something that the other may not [For eg: Jai is a geek and Preeti has an undying zest for life, ]. As a result, you learn something new and motivate each other to perform better in the activity, thus giving you the best of both worlds.

    • Explore: If he loves traveling and you love discovering new music artists everyday, could it get any better? There will be tons of new cities and countries to explore, and a variety of playlists that will keep the two of you hooked on for days to come. Your respective interests will help you discover something new every day.
    • Balance: Imagine two people, both hot headed and super frustrated in general, all set to quarrel over a petty issue? Run for your lives already, folks! In relationships that work, balance is the key. A hot headed individual needs a ‘captain cool’, who can do the job of solving the issue efficiently.
    • Excitement: You will always be excited to know more about your partner and his personality. Be it the way he/she shops or discusses movies; each day shall spring new surprises. There ain’t no room for boredom, fellas! The perfect recipe for happiness in a relationship is a serious dose of excitement.

When we stumbled upon the first few episodes of SonyLIV’s latest offering – Lost & Found, our faith in this age old concept of relationships was restored. The perfect tale of unexpected love, where opposites attract in the most bizarre turn of incidents. One look at this web series and you can’t help but agree - when opposites attract, happy ending toh banta hain boss!

I don't stress over failure - Katrina Kaif | Interview

It may have been a mixed year for Katrina Kaif, with two unsuccessful films, a few highs and lows in her personal life and unnecessary media attention; but the actress is not among those who give up easily. A self confessed workaholic, the 33-year-old is quick to shift her focus on professional commitments, be it some digital buzz for her recent Dream Team tour or promotional activities for films. When we caught up with the actress on a rainy Saturday evening at Mehboob Studios, she was busy with back to back interviews since 10 am. Notwithstanding the long day filled with scribes throwing questions and fans requesting selfies, the actress was all excited to discuss her upcoming film - Baar Baar Dekho. Looking her stylish best, Kaif walked in, grabbed a cuppa, and settled down for an interesting chat. Excerpts from the conversation:

How different is Baar Baar Dekho from other romantic films that you have done in the past?
It's an extremely emotional love story, which is told in a new way and is not a linear story. While most people are talking about the time travel part, it's not as much about that as it is about Jai and Diya's relationship. It spans from the time they are 8, all the way up to turning 60. Baar Baar Dekho explores the different stages of relationship an individual goes through - right from dating, to getting married, settling down with family and the problems faced during all these phases. The film is definitely gonna be a new experience for the audience.

      Fan Question
What was it about your character (Diya) that attracted you the most and made you take up this film?
Thank you for the question, guys. I have always believed that when the story and character connects with me, it has the potential to connect with others as well. I think Diya is certainly one of the best characters I have played on screen. She is extremely relatable, someone who every girl or woman can associate with. Also, I can relate to Diya in more ways than one. Like I said, the main reason I took up Baar Baar Dekho was the fact that several moments in the film were very close to my life and relatable. I could connect to Diya's feelings in the film. For me, Diya is one of the most challenging, deep and emotionally expressive characters that I have played till date.

Do you think the physicality of an actor plays an important role in making a character memorable?
Physicality, costumes and glamour gets a lot of attention during the promotional stage. Since the trailer and songs are almost around 2 mins long, these things quickly catch your eye and helps make an instantaneous connect. But, when you see the film, the audience walks out with emotions and the character's overall personality. Not just the physicality.

Diya is one of the most challenging, deep and emotionally expressive characters that I have played till date.

Looking back at your journey in Bollywood, is there any phase where you felt you had hit a low or did not perform as per expectations? If yes, how did you work on getting back on track.
Honestly, it's extremely difficult to dissect your own career. But, if I look back at my journey, the only thing I have done is work hard and allowed destiny to play it's role. I am a big believer in destiny. There was probably just a small phase where I wasn't able to focus on my work, and I know that very well. But, I believe that it's important to give your best in everything that you do. I have done my best in every film or project that I have worked on. It's important to know that there will always be someone out there who will be better than you. But, you should go home knowing that you had given your best. Your competition should always be with yourself. The moment you think that things are not going as per your expectations, you must pull yourself up and start working hard towards your goal. I always believe in this!

If you could go back and change something about yourself, what would it be?
I would go back and tell myself to worry less and not stress too much. I tend to take too much stress sometimes. I have realised that one must learn to be easy on themselves. You may have done your best and probably, something may have gone wrong here or there. But, that's okay! Sometimes, it is necessary to let go. Be easy on yourself and others.

So, does failure affect you in anyway? Does it leave you feeling stressed, especially about your next films?
I don't stress over failure. If a film doesn't work, that's the way it is. It was probably the wrong choice or a film that didn't connect with the audience. There are people who say things like, "Oh! It was a commercial success." or  "That was a glamorous hit." Personally, I think there are just two ways to look at a film - either it's a hit or a flop. In my career, I have done some films where the audience hasn't felt a connect. And I completely respect that. For me, the audience can never be wrong. The productive way to look at failure is to learn from it and see how you can make things better next time.

      Fan Question
If given a chance, which moment from your life would you like to relive or dekho 'baar baar'?
That's an interesting question, Rita. But, I try not to hold on to one moment for long or get attached to it. So, I can't really pick any one moment as such. But, I think my career and the whole experience in this film industry has been mostly of immense happiness. So, that would definitely be the one (smiles).

The moment you think that things are not going as per your expectations, you must pull yourself up and start working hard towards your goal.

Do you think good chemistry between the lead pair plays an integral role in a film's success?
I personally believe that it is the story that is extremely important. Your chemistry will reflect if the story is superb and your director is guiding you in the right place. Of course, you can't rule out the fact that there are some people who have perfect turning and look good together on screen. I have always worked with and enjoyed sharing screen space with people my age. For the most part, I have shared some great equation with pretty much everyone I have worked with. But, personally I feel that several aspects come together and play an important role part in a film's success.

      Fan Question
How was the whole Dream Team Tour experience?
I am overwhelmed by these amazing twitter handle names (smiles). The tour was amazing and we had great fun. There was great unity and love among all the performers. But, what was really important is the amazing response from the audience. Despite the fact that all the boys [Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy Kapoor] have relatively come in the last few years, it was incredible to see their huge fan following. I had great fun with Alia and Parineeti too. It was a beautiful experience and I look forward to doing more of such shows.

You recently took the plunge and joined social media. What made you choose Facebook for your social media debut?
Honestly, I realised that it was necessary for me to have a platform where I could connect with my fans and have a voice. Otherwise, a lot of times, certain sections of the media decides to throw up a lot of things about you, which they think is very newsworthy. Almost everyone is now on a social media platform, so I too felt the need to have a place where I can share something, whether a trivia or piece of news. So, that's how Facebook happened. Twitter is definitely a part of our next plan and is very much on our agenda. My team is looking at it, but I don't really know when it will happen.

Baar Baar Dekho | Film Review

Nitya Mehra’s directorial debut Baar Baar Dekho has the perfect recipe for a typical Bollywood movie - good looking cast, sizzling chemistry between the pair, catchy music, exotic locales and a love story. What it does miss is that magic or 'super spark' that one would have expected after watching the trailer and promos over the last couple of months.

Jai Verma (Sidharth Malhotra) and Diya Kapoor (Katrina Kaif) are your quintessential rom-com movie couple - absolute opposites, but still so much in love. Jai is a mathematical genius, a man of logic and solutions while Diya is an artist, extremely happy-go-lucky and all about living in the moment. As credits roll out, the film opens with the beautiful and soulful “Kho Gaye Tum Kaha”, sung by Jasleen Royal and Prateek Kuhad. The song has been penned by the latter and really does warm the tingles of your heart.

The movie takes its audience through a 30 year journey of Jai and Diya’s life, as they experience the circle of life. While the first half focuses on all the things that could go wrong in their relationship, the second half takes a cheerful turn. There is a bit of back and forth in time, while Jai tries to make things right. The movie is not focusing on science fiction or time travel, but just highlights the ups and downs in any relationship experienced by a couple (even if you aren’t as beautiful or charismatic looking as these two).

Of the performances on screen, Kaif looks gorgeous through her 30 years of life, even at her 40 something, the woman is a stunner. Malhotra emotes and performs well. Must give Sid some serious credit, as a large part of the film rests on his young shoulders and needless to say, he does good justice to his role. Sayani Gupta [her last release - Fan] playing Chitra, was a bit of a surprise spark. Although she had very little screen time, she did her bit of leaving a mark.

The music was bang on, as expected and everybody looked great. Baar Baar Dekho has it's share of wonderful moments that stay with you. But overall, it falls into the category of films that takes some time to settle into the system. We would say, go and dekho ek baar. That's it!

Verdict: Baar Baar Dekho is a foot-tapping, beautiful looking one time watch, that brings with it some fine performances!

      Pink | Film Review

      $

From the opening scene of the film till the climax, Bengali film director Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary’s debut hindi social thriller - Pink, which hits the screens tomorrow, will keep you hooked on to your seat. The film, produced by Shoojit Sircar, speaks about an important and relevant issue in our society. The message in this film is conveyed and presented with an impact, which will remain with you for a long time, even after you leave the cinema hall. There are many films made on social issues concerning women, but the courtroom drama in Pink makes it outstanding an outstanding cinematic experience.

The story revolves around three girls who get trapped into a situation with the rich brats compelling them to fight a battle for their dignity as women. Casting of the film is bang on. Tapsee Pannu (as Minal), Kirti Kulhari (as Falak) and Andrea Tariang’s (as Andrea) stellar performances will make you feel connected to their characters throughout the film.  Of course, the film is incomplete without Amitabh Bachchan, as he is the soul and heart of Pink.  He is the mystery piece in the first half, who weaves the film together in the end with his closing statement. Pink churns you emotionally - making you feel scared, angry, sympathetic, helpless and finally, victorious.

Pace of the film is slightly slow, while the story has an unsettling mood throughout. There are very few dialogues in the first half, which keeps the curiosity intact as to what has really gone wrong in the film. A special mention for the costumes, that helped add a layer to the characters. In the second half of the film, when the main female characters are interrogated in the witness box, they have been dressed in light pastel colors, thus making a strong point of the characters being suppressed. Ritesh Shah's screenplay and dialogues form the backbone of this film, making it gripping. The film highlights some of the screwed notions in our Indian society surrounding women and men, making it an eye opener, especially when it comes to women safety.
Whether you decide to watch Pink alone, with friends, family or neighbours; we simply suggest that you watch it at least once! Highly recommended.

Verdict: Pink is a must watch! And remember, don’t judge the colour by its appearance.

MAC Vibe Tribe | Swatches, Review and Look

Okay! I confess. This post has been demanded by several readers and it was super delayed by some weeks. But, better late than never. MAC Cosmetics launched their exclusive Vibe Tribe range in around end of July / early August. Within a few days, most items were out of stock. I mean, just look at that packaging and colours. How can anyone resist? We were introduced to some products earlier last month. I must add that one of these products met with an unfortunate accident a day before this product shoot. A little kid made his way into my vanity area [when I was not around] and broke a few pieces of make up, including this Gleamtones Powder pan. Naturally, I was disappointed and very angry, but it didn't help as the damage was done. Fortunately, I had experienced the product well enough for this review. Now that I am done with the side story, here's what we think about the range.

Products: Gleamtones Powder, MAC Vibe Tribe lipstick

      Price: $33 / Rs 2600 - MAC Gleamtones Powder
$18 - MAC Vibe Tribe Lipstick

Packaging: Gorgeous, to say the least! The entire range comes in an exclusive packaging, which has peach as it's base colour, with colourful aztec prints all over. A dash of blue here and a hint of coral there; the MAC vibe tribe range packaging is simply perfect. For most make up lovers, it was the packaging that scored a perfect 10, followed by other aspects of the product.

MAC Vibe Tribe Gleamtones Powder - Dunes at Dusk: A beautiful highlighter and bronzer, the MAC vibe tribe gleam tones powder comes with four blocks of shades - coral, tangerine, champagne and bronze, packed in an eye catching compact. Swirl the brush and blend those hues to get a nice sheen. Likewise, you can also use the shade / blend the shades that match your skin tone. Personally, I prefer blending the four shades together to achieve the perfect look. What I really like about this product is the fact that it serves as a highlighter palette, which helps especially when you've got an occasion where traveling is involved. Instead of carrying around multiple shades to get best results, the Gleamtones powder is all you need. For the price you pay, this is certainly a very good buy.

I have swatched three shades from the palette, which includes [L to R] champagne, peach / radiant coral and a cool fuchsia. Unfortunately, the bronze shade was completely damaged. Apologies for not being able to swatch it for you.

MAC Vibe Tribe Lipstick [Shade - Painted Sunset] -  Most of you already know that I am a huge fan of bold lips. My vanity area is filled with a variety of bold hued lipsticks. I fell in love with this shade ever since it's launch and overtime, this has become one of my favourite lipsticks. The collection includes five shades, and this shade is one of them. Painted Sunset is a bright orange - red amplified lipstick, with a creamy finish that does not leave your lips feeling dry and glides on like a dream. Two swipes of this gorgeous colour and you are good to go for at least 4-5 hours. I swear by this shade on most gloomy days [it's been this way in Mumbai since sometime now]. Nothing like a gorgeous lipstick to uplift your mood and brighten up the day. Also, this is just the kind of a lipstick that you would wanna wear to Coachella. Hell Yeah!

So, here's the look I created using these two products. This was clicked on the last day of Lakmè Fashion Week W/F 2016, held in Mumbai last month. Here's how I created this look:
On my face: MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC 40
MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation [for setting]
Eyes: MAC Liquid Eyeliner in Boot Black
      Brows: MAC Eyebrows in Stylised
Lips: MAC Vibe Tribe - Painted Sunset
Highlighter: MAC Vibe Tribe Gleam Tones Powder [blending four shades]

Verdict: Beautiful packaging, good mix of colourful blushes, eye pencils, VFM worthy highlighter palette, fun nail lacquers and super pigmented lipsticks; the MAC vibe tribe range is everything that we could ask for, and more. This one's the perfect collector's delight!

Kareena Kapoor Khan's Maternity Style | Birthday Special

That we cannot take our eyes off the rosy glow on her face is obvious. But, another aspect that really stood in the last couple of weeks is Kareena Kapoor Khan's choice of outfits. Ever since she confirmed her pregnancy, Bebo has been given every to-be mommy some serious maternity style goals. Not that she never surprised us with her sartorial choices before, but her mommy to-be outfits are seriously a notch above. Little or no make up [with the exception of a bold or nude lipstick in some cases], right choice of silhouettes and the perfect accessories; Kareena is clearly nailing it. Here's a look at some of our favourite looks sported by the charming begum, who turns 36 today.

      1. In H&M for Global Citizen Event

Trust Kareena to be a sassy and stylish mommy! At a recent event, where she addressed the audience and media, Kareena opted for a Black jersey dress and dark emerald green jewel toned jacket by H&M. She added a gold bracelet and pair of black cage heels to complete the look. The make up was bare minimum, with just her favourite kajal and a swipe of nude lipstick, and she kept it simple with a ponytail. Quite a cool look, this!

      2. In Eka, Zara & Tod's for a Casual Meet

After attending a brand event, Kareena opted for this super comfortable dress by designer Rina Singh's Eka. There ain't no room for Monday morning blues, if you see someone looking so stylish in a casual outfit! Bebo's stylist Tanya Ghavri added a pair of flats by Tod's and pretty fringe bag from Zara to this look. Once again, Bebo opted for minimal make up. Soft, natural waves completed this lovely look.

      3. In Swapnil Shinde for an Ad Shoot

It can't get cuter than this! While shooting for an ad film, Bebo stepped out looking adorable as ever in a blush pink off-shoulder maxi dress by designer Swapnil Shinde. Neutral make up and soft vintage waves added some glamour to this chic look. Definitely one of our favourite looks on Kareena this season!

      4. In Sabyasachi for Press Con + LFW Grand Finale

As the brand ambassador for Lakmè India, Kareena Kapoor Khan kickstarted the last day of Lakmè Fashion Week W/F 2016 [held in Mumbai last month] with a press meet, where she looked stunning in a floral Sabyasachi maxi dress. Bold red lips and glamorous side swept hair looked perfect on her. Later, she made waves as the showstopper for designer Sabyasachi's showcase at the grand finale. During the post event press conference, she got a little emotional and added that it was a pleasure to walk the ramp with her yet to be born baby in tow. Awww!

      5. In Bungalow 8 & Gucci for post LFW meet
After a long day of interviews and taking over the Lakmè Fashion Week grand finale as the showstopper, Bebo slipped into a relaxed yet gorgeous outfit. Her stylist, Tanya, chose this pretty dress from Bungalow 8's pre-fall collection and paired it with Gucci loafers, which added a hint of metallics to an otherwise neutral look. Well defined eyes, side swept hair and that perfect mommy hood glow; simply perfect!

      Banjo | Film Review

Banjo, the musical drama directed by acclaimed National award winning director Ravi Jadhav, has all the colours of celebration. The film celebrates the talent of street musicians who are god-gifted, but cannot pursue their dreams as they are trapped in their socio-economic conditions.  This musical drama is set with the background of festivals depicting banjo as an integral part of people’s celebration. Ritesh Deshmukh (as Taraat) takes the centre stage with his gang and the hero of the film - the instrument 'Banjo', setting the energy quotient high in the opening of the film.
Plot of the film revolves around the musical journey of Taraat and his banjo group, who go through all the hardships and hurdles to make it big. Nargis Fakhri has a musical connection when it comes to her films, as she always remains the central chord of the musicians heart, be it Rockstar or in this case, Banjo. She plays a musician from New York who comes all the way to Mumbai in search of a banjo group. The film highlights the fact that an artist should be respected irrespective of his background, the place he comes from or his appearance and should be judged purely on the grounds of talent.

Ravi Jadhav never fails to impress us with his visual treatment, as his story telling is always knitted with metaphors and symbolism. Vishal-Shekhar’s music is pulsating as every song has built the emotional graph in the film. Right from the opening to the final crescendo, you will be addicted to the theme music of banjo. It is refreshing to see Ritesh in a never seen before character. The dialogues are catchy, which give a decent pace to the film. You leave the theatre feeling happy and content (at least I surely did), as you watch dreams being fulfilled.

Verdict: This is Riteish Deshmukh's musical treat all the way! Watch it.

Things to do in Ratnagiri (Part I) | Travel

Ratnagiri - the land of Lord Parshurama. A beautiful district that houses scenic mountains and clean, virgin beaches. Situated on the Arabian coast, Ratnagiri is a part of the Konkan division; a place that has my heart (and soul). While most tourists and non-Maharashtrians think of Ratnagiri only when the Alphonso season arrives, there is more to this marvellous district than you could think of. Of late, several tourists have begun flocking to this district on long weekends, to soak in some sunshine and laze around on the virgin beaches (though, I secretly pray and hope they don't turn into another Calangute. Some tourists can certainly do with travel manners. Stop littering, please). As we celebrate World Tourism Day, I take this opportunity to talk about a district [and division of Mahahrashtra] that is close to my heart. A two part Feature series and detailed guide, that will help you plan your next trip to Ratnagiri, with must visit areas and more.

      Beaches
Well known for it's long coastline and quiet, calm ambience, Ratnagiri beaches are a far cry from the commercial beaches that you often get to see. Take your pick from a variety of beaches including Bhatye, Ganpatipule, and the twin beaches - Aare, Ware.

Bhatye: Hardly 2kms away from the main city. The sight of white sand on one side and tall trees on the other is enough to let your stressful mind attain some peach.

Image captured outside Bhatye Beach using a regular point and shoot camera, while traveling in a car at 40kmph
Aare-Ware: For those who love scenic views, Aare-Ware is the place to be. Stunning view of the long coastline awaits, as you walk ahead. For photography lovers, drive along the Ganpatipule route and halt at the Aare-Ware junction on the top of the hill. Quench your thirst with a glass of home-made Kokam sarbat and click away. One end of the beach also houses some water sports facilities.

Mandvi: For commercial beach lovers, the Mandvi or Kala Samudra beach is a must visit, complete with food stalls, rides and one of a kind black sand beach.

Shot taken from Mandvi beach, moments before the fishermen wind up for the day

      Temples
Ratnagiri is home to some of the most popular and ancient temples. Spiritual tourists can dedicate an entire day to temple visits, and drive back feeling divine. Some of the most popular temples include the Mahakali temple at Adivare, Ganpati temple at Ganpatipule, the Pawas temple among others. Ratnagiri is also one of the rare districts in India that houses a temple dedicated to Lord Surya aka Sun.

Mahakali temple, Adivare: One of the oldest and most popular temples in Ratnagiri, the Mahakali temple [home to Goddess Kali] is situated approximately 35kms away from the main city, in a village called Adivare. Hundreds of devotees visit the temple daily, while the numbers hit over a lakh during the Navratri festival. The main temple area also houses two separate sanctum sanatoriums for Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Laxmi. Several celebrities are known visit the temple during their work trip to Ratnagiri.

Insider Tip: Take a halt at the tea centre situated next to the temple. They serve some lip smacking Vada Pav, Spicy Kanda Bhaji and cutting chai.

Captured during the temple renovation process, approximately 2 years ago
While major parts of the temple were renovated, these ancient murals on the ceiling remain intact and have been given a colour makeover. These murals depict Hindu mythological stories
The newly renovated temple area, including a dedicated space for Navratri Havan
Kanikaditya Mandir, Kasheli: Situated in the Rajapur taluka of Ratnagiri district, in a small village named Kasheli; Kanikaditya temple is one of the very few temples in India that is dedicated to Lord Surya / Sun. Kasheli is approximately a 30km drive from Ratnagiri city. Like several temples in India, this too has an interesting story behind it and the locals are always eager to share mythological stories, facts and trivia with tourists.

Swami Swaroopanand Temple, Pawas: A beautiful temple nestled in the quiet lanes of a village named Pawas, the Swami Swarupanand Temple is approximately 20kms away from Ratnagiri. Located inside a well maintained complex, the temple houses Swami's samadhi, as well as a beautiful idol of Lord Vitthal and Rakhumai. Several copies of the popular holy text - Gnayeshwari, as kept inside the temple. It is said, that you can pick up a copy and randomly open any page. The verses on that particular page shall have the perfect answer to a misery, doubt or problem faced by you. I have personally done this on several occasions, and trust me, it has worked. This is no superstition, but a matter of pure faith. Also, Dnayeshwari in general is a wonderful book. The trust serves delicious Khichdi as part of their Mahaprasad during lunch hours, everyday.

Insider Tip: Head to Vijay's opposite the temple complex, and stock up on your favourite Mango based food products.

Ganpatipule: A destination that is slowly becoming a favourite among Maharashtra and Gujarat based tourists, Ganpatipule is a small village located on the Konkan coastline. The village is well known for it's popular, wish fulfilling Ganesha temple, which is located on a beach which goes by the same name. This temple faces the Arabian sea, and a coastline, which is breathtakingly beautiful. The Swayambhu (self originated) idol placed inside the sanctum sanatorium is 400 years old. Instead of the usual temple pradiksahana, devotees perform a pradikshana via a special marg around the hill behind this temple. This distance of this marg is approximately one kilometre and the surroundings are absolutely beautiful. After a peaceful darshan at the temple, you can relax by the beach side. Sample some of the local Kanda Bhaji, Thalipeeth, or savour the never-ending fresh Coconut Water. With the popularity, the Ganpatipule beach has fast become a commercial area (at least, from what I have been noticing since the last decade). A sincere request to everyone though - please don't litter or leave the temple & beach premises dirty. Seeing the beach in a mess is such an eyesore!

Insider Tip: If you are around during Lunch time, don't leave without savouring the Bhog prasad (post afternoon Aarti, till 2 pm). The khichdi and fresh mango pickle served here is to die for!

That's it for this part of the feature! In the next part, we shall explore some exciting sight seeing destinations and also fill you in with complete details on stay, travel and the areas to sample local cuisines.

The Top Ranbir Kapoor Track Playlist | Birthday Special

      $

      0
Everybody loves Ranbir Kapoor. I mean, c'mon! In his nine-year-old career, RK has given us some of the best, most memorable films. Stuff that can be watched on repeat for days (Okay! maybe I'll let Saawariya and Besharam go, but I hope you get the drift). After Bombay Velvet and Tamasha last year (the latter being a favourite), Ranbir has kept things low key on both the professional and personal front for almost a year. In a recent interview, the actor confessed that he is using this time to reinvent and start his career as an actor from scratch. Well, this too shall pass. Every successful and talented actor hits a rough patch, only to rise like a phoenix with his / her next. And if the promos of his next, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, are anything to go by, we can already predict a huge BO success storm.

As the actor turns 33 today, we compiled a list of our favourite tracks, featuring RK (the list is pretty long, but we tried to zero it down to top 10). Songs that can be on loop all night, and shall continue to rock our playlists even the next day. Wish you a very Happy Birthday, Ranbir Kapoor. Shine On, always!

Khuda Jaane - Bachna Ae Haseeno
A delightful romantic track, stunning locales and a charming lead pair; what's not to love here? Also, I love the entire album. It was tough to choose just one track, but it had to be this.

      Iktara - Wake Up Sid
Duh! Is there anyone who doesn't love this song? Come rains (actually, they just went) and you will see most filmy birds hanging out at Nariman Point, listening to this track, and feeling the rain on their face.

      Bheegi Si - Raajneeti
Alright! This one's a personal favourite. Love the melodious composition by the late Aadesh Shrivastava. Also, this film is extremely under-rated.

Tera Hone Laga Hoon - Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani
Back in 2009, everybody I knew in class had this track on their iPods and phones, sometimes even as a ringtone (back then, Nokia music phones were a rage). Also, there was something about the Ran-Kat chemistry (Sigh!) that got everyone attracted to them. Suddenly, everyone around was either a Ranbir or Katrina fan. Sweet!

Tujhe Bhula Diya - Anjaana Anjaani
Clearly, RK was on a chartbuster spree! Just look at that graph. Adding to it was the soulful Tujhe Bhula Diya, featuring Ranbir and Priyanka Chopra. Remember using it for one of my contemporary dance routines back then.

      Aashiyaan - Barfi!
A beautiful poetry in motion, with some of the most heartwarming tracks. Barfi! was a magical ode to love. An ode like no other. Performances that can melt your heart and make you smile. This was clearly one of Ranbir's most challenging and excellent performances till date. And, this song is enough to make your day.

      Sadda Haq - Rockstar
Ah! My anthem. I absolutely swear by this one helluva incredible track, composed by the ace AR Rahman and performed beautifully by Mohit Chauhan. As Jordan in Rockstar, RK was in top form. Again, an album with way too many favourites. Tough to choose, but we had to pick one.

Dilliwali Girlfriend - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Trust me, it's not easy to pick a favourite from an album that's as amazing as YJHD! While the heart goes with Balam Pichkari, the head clearly had other plans. Dilliwali Girlfriend won because of it's fabulous choreography (Yes! I loved it) and sizzling chemistry between the lead pair, Ranbir and Deepika. Also, this film is pure love! You can't help but watch it on repeat.

      Matargashti - Tamasha
I don't care if this sounds repetitive, but it is extremely difficult to choose a favourite from such wonderful film albums! The film happens to be one of my favourite films from 2015, and I stand by everything positive that I had tweeted about the film (not the one to change stands. nope). Tamasha was beautiful and once again, Ranbir and Deepika stole the show with their unmatchable chemistry. While both Matargashti and Agar Tum Saath Ho are superb compositions, the former won purely because of it's fun value. This is one happy number, and is perfect to take your mood to the next level on a dull, boring day!

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil - Title Track
And what's a Birthday special list without the latest chartbuster? The ADHM title track, composed by Pritam, is literally EVERYWHERE - rickshaws, phones, YouTube trend list, radio, television and even on little pop-up ads that appear on websites. The song went on to receive more than 8 million views in just a day. People can't seem to get enough of this melodious track, and of course, Ranbir's fresh pairing with the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Needless to say, the track set social media trends on fire, and deservingly so.

What's your favourite Ranbir Kapoor track? Leave a comment below or join the conversation on Twitter! And once again, here's wishing Ranbir a fantastic birthday.

Taraat is inspirational because of his confidence - Riteish Deshmukh | Exclusive Interview

      $
      0
      0
Fresh from the release of his latest film - Banjo, Riteish Deshmukh already has his hands full with a variety of projects in the upcoming months. His primary focus shall be on two important Marathi films. This includes Mauli with director Nishikant Kamat, which is scheduled to go on the floors by the end of this year, and a much awaited biopic on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Over a cup of steaming black coffee, Riteish discussed films, plans for his banner's next and more with Team Dancebee's Rasika Pote.

Could you relate to Taarat (his character in the film) in any way? Also, in what way did the character inspire you?
Taraat is inspirational because of his belief and confidence. I really wish I was like him in various ways. Be it the way he wears his emotions on his sleeve or the fact that he does not care about anything. The inherent confidence about his art form is great. See, as an actor, I have my own limitations. So, he maybe just about 40 percent like me. The character has a crazy graph in the film, for which, I had to be aggressive yet vulnerable on screen. Hopefully, I have done justice to the role.
How did you work on getting the nuances of a Banjo artist right?
I never had the experience of playing a Banjo before. Although I've tried my hands on a Hawaiian guitar as a child, Banjo is a completely different instrument, as it has a keyboard on the strings. Tarot has a certain sense of arrogance and attitude, that of being the best banjo player, which I worked on. Also, he would stand and play the banjo, so they designed a special strap for me, which would keep the banjo in a vertical position while playing. During the filming stage, Ravi Jadhav (director) suggested that even if you don’t know how to play the instrument, you have to feel like you are playing it live, in order to establish a connect with your audience and make them feel the same. If there was anyone who made me feel that way, it was Ustad Zakir Hussain Sahab. I thought, maybe I can take some inspiration from him and make the audience feel like I am playing the banjo.
How was the experience of working with Ravi Jadhav? You have been one of the producers for his film - Balak Palak, so what was different when you were the actor this time?
Honestly, the experience of working with Ravi as an actor is much better, because I don’t have to worry about money (laughs). Jokes apart, it was really a wonderful experience working with Ravi as when we decided on Banjo, I liked the fact that no one had ever seen me in a space like this. Taarat is by far the most rooted person I have played on screen, and he comes from the lowest strata. After hearing the story, I asked Ravi some basic questions about the character like - Is Taraat funny? Does he smile? Does he blush? With the help of his responses, we then worked on getting the body language, look and little nuances of the character right.

Do you think the film will help Banjo culture make a come back?
It’s not about the coming back of a culture. It's all about the energy. You need to dance to feel the sound of banjo. When we shot the climax song, there were 80 dhols present for the shoot. We wrapped up our shoot at around 6 am in the morning and post that, from 6 – 8 am, the entire unit was dancing on the sound of live dhol and banjo, despite being tired after the shoot. Also, Banjo is a metaphor for lost instruments and musicians. The whole idea is to give a platform to talented artists who deserve a chance. In fact, if someone watches Banjo and actually offers any street artist the opportunity to perform at their club, then that would be a very good start.

      Fan Question

Do we get to see Genelia and you working together anytime soon in a film?
I don’t know, but hopefully. I would love to do a marathi film with her sometime soon.

What are the upcoming projects under your banner, Mumbai Film Company?
Currently, we are working on Chhatrapati Shivaji and Mauli. These two Marathi films will keep me busy. Since Chhatrapati... is a huge project, a lot of research work is in process. So, only once the script is ready, I can be in a position to share more details.
You made an eco-friendly Ganapati idol this year and the video got a good response. What do you have to say about it?
I was really happy about the fact that this video (shared on social media) was liked, shared and appreciated by everyone. It was Ravi (Jadhav) who got this initiated by gifting me a special clay, and asked me to make an idol. So I said, let’s give it a try and then, I tried to make a small Ganapati. Next year, I am planning to start a campaign for eco-friendly Ganapati idols.

As designers we make sure we offer our clients exactly what they want as a bride. Our aim is to make the brides dream come through with her wedding gown. We ensure high quality of craftsmanship along with accessories and styling tips for the bride. It’s a one stop shop for every bride.

What was your inspiration for the new ‘White Symphony’ collection?
White Symphony is for the modern bride. It reflects harmony between faiths, and the growing norm of interfaith wedded bliss. In this bridal collection, stark, pristine white makes way for other hues, with accents of crimson, emerald, vermillion and black representing different faiths. Celebrating bespoke bridal creations, the collection includes bird motifs as symbols of customised elements in bridal wear that truly mirrors a bride’s personality.

Do you personally believe the collection also breaks stereotypes attached to white weddings and the outfits traditionally worn by brides?
The idea is to provide the bride with designs that complement her along with being comfortable. Brides want to experiment these days and are willing to opt for different styles and even use color for a white wedding.

Zoe - part of the White Symphony collection by Karleo

How did you conceptualise this collection?
Our design ethic has always worked on contrasting factors. We love to combine the odds with evens. White Symphony is a derivative from our clients and people we end up meeting. It reflects a combination of different cultures, and blending it well to create a piece. Over the past year, we have had a lot of inter faith weddings, which was the inspiration behind the creation of white symphony.

Do you think the audience is more open to experimenting with their bridal outfits, compared to, say five years back?
Yes! The audience is willing to experiment with their gowns. Every bride wants her outfit to tell a story, which is weaved in through different memories of their existence.

What has been the most bizarre or hilarious demand that a client has ever made?
We had a bride once make an entire black bridal gown, since the color black was a symbol of safety and security for her.

The duo behind Karleo - Karan Berry and Leon Vaz
Any tips for brides this season / Any particular Dos and Don’ts that you share with your clients, especially brides, very often.
Incorrect shoes is a major faux pas. Wearing a wedge platform shoe with an evening gown is a complete no-no. It changes the way you walk and completely spoil the look.  It’s not important to wear high heels with a gown but, heels do help you to walk gracefully. It maybe a small thing but it makes a huge difference. Personally, we feel shoes are the most important thing. You have to know what kind will go well with your outfit. It can break or make the look. Also, accessories should always be used in the right proportion.

What are your predictions for the next season, SS 17 and for Summer brides?
Trends are tilting more towards the simplest classic styles and colours. The old school charm is back in its true sense without it being altered. The trends will come from our childhood memories of fashion, which we saw growing up. Long Sleeves are definitely here to stay. Pinafore dress is coming back.  Classic evening wear with more focus to detailing (stitching, beading etc) is also making a come back.

      Mirzya | Film Review

As you step out of the cinema hall, your first impression of Mirzya would be that of a beautiful canvas - painted on both sides with emotions of the two lovers, Mohnish (Harshvardhan Kapoor) and Suchitra (Saiyami Kher). The film is visually beautiful and is blessed with an amazing screenplay by Gulzar, which is woven together like poetry. And that is exactly what stays with you for long.

We are introduced to Mohnish and Suchitra as little kids. Best friends and childhood lovers, who are parted, and are yet to find a way to meet each other after many years. In most of his films, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s narrative technique has moved back and forth in time and this time too, he has been experimental. The story is depicted in two parallel worlds – one real and the other, a fantasy.  The fantasy narrative has a blue tone and some breathtaking high speed shots, which will leave you in awe. The real world is interwoven with an eternal folktale of the star crossed lovers, Mirza - Sahibaan, who fought against the world to be together. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have also been experimental with their compositions. Music plays an integral part, as it is used extensively with the visual narrative. Every emotion has a contrasting music to it, thus creating an emphasis, as the story progresses.

Cinephiles and ardent fans of world cinema, Mirzya shall leave you impressed, thanks to its unique storytelling. Mehra has been successful in portraying the fact that when two passionate lovers are connected, even if the universe tries to break them apart, they will still find a way to be together in life and death. To make his dream a success, debutant Harshvardhan Kapoor has a lion’s share. The actor charms us with his subtle acting skills and eccentric personality. Saiyami Kher, who also makes her Bollywood debut, looks angelic with her alluring eyes. Both the actors share an unconventional chemistry on screen, making them look like the perfect ‘disconnected..yet connected’ lovers, that they essay on screen.

Sometimes, the story of a film is simple and is being recounted hundred times. But, what really matters is how it is recounted. For us, Mirzya is an artist's ode to passionate love, and a beautiful one at that!

Verdict:  In between commercial Bollywood films, treat yourself to a beautiful painting of love. You might just like it.

Last month, during my quest to find the perfect night cream, I was introduced to the newly launched Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Sleeping Cream by The Body Shop. If you remember, a volunteer close to our team had reviewed the amazing facial oil from Oils of Life range last year, and was highly impressed with the results. Naturally, we were quite excited to test this new launch. With winter coming up, all of us (especially those with dry skin) can do with a hydrating night cream, that can leave your skin feeling supple and well moisturised the next day. We kickstarted our test period with high expectations. Read on to know how this product fared.

What? - The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Sleeping Cream

      Quantity - 80ml   Price: Rs 2495

What does it promise? - A night cream that moisturises, revitalises and nourishes your skin while you sleep. Reducing the signs of ageing, you'll look visibly more rested with a supple and rejuvenated complexion. Combining 3 precious cold-pressed seed oils known for their healing properties and 7 powerful essential oils, this cushiony cream is a potent source of nutrients for your skin while you slumber. Your skin will have new vitality and life with this nourishing lotion.

Main Ingredients: Black Cumin seed oil from Egypt, Camellia seed oil from China and Rosehip seed oil from Chile – with a powerful blend of essential oils.

How to use?Apply every evening after your facial oil or serum to revitalise your skin night after night. Massage gently onto your face, then neck and décolleté in an upward motion. Leave overnight.

Fragrance: A lot like the Oils of Life facial oil, thanks to the ingredients, of course. The essential oils create a wonderful blend. The fragrance is not very strong, but aromatic enough to put you off to sleep like a baby. Black cumin and Rosehip seed oil notes stand out.

Packaging: Very classy. The cream comes in a glass jar, which has a plastic lid in between to prevent the product from spilling. The jar can get a little heavy to carry around, so it is best suggested that you transfer the cream to a smaller jar while traveling.

Texture: Rich, smooth and silky; the texture of this sleeping cream is one of the best I have come across so far. It does not leave any grime or shine on your face, and absorbs quickly.

Experience: Very few products manage to suit my skin type and exceed expectations. But, this amazing sleeping cream by The Body Shop has fast become a favourite already. During the trial (for almost a month), our night skincare routine started off with cleansing, followed by using Oils of Life facial oil and post a five minute break, gently massaging the Oils of Life sleeping cream. You don't require too much of the product, which means the jar shall last you for a good 6 - 8 months (depending on usage). Despite the supremely rich and creamy texture, the product absorbs very well within 10 - 15 minutes and leaves a nice, subtle glow. We think the cream is perfect for individuals with both normal to dry and normal to oily skin type. It does the job of hydrating, repairing and replenishing your skin from within overnight. The next morning, you do wake up with supple skin. Your skin feels moisturised and soft, while fragrance of this cream continues to linger. Over time, you do feel the difference in your skin, as it feels replenished and less dehydrated. While we don't know about it's anti-ageing properties, it performs all the other tasks quite well. Clearly, this product meets all the promises made by the brand and of course, our expectations too. Since it's fall and winter is just around the corner, we suggest you stock up on this cream and add it to your daily night skincare routine already. Time to bid dry skin patches and same old night creams adieu. This cream is worth all your money!

      Pros: Rich texture
      Excellent hydrating and moisturising properties
      Classy packaging
      Absorbs well
      Suitable for all skin types
      Supports a cause
      Not tested on animals

Cons: The jar is not travel friendly

Verdict: Highly recommended! It is definitely turning out to be one of our favourite products this year. Worth the price, and comes with a good shelf life. Go, buy it!

Fashion | Shahid Kapoor's Clothing Line SKULT Launched in Mumbai

Shahid Kapoor's personal style is all about athleisure. It is unique, relaxed and casual. The kind of athleisure we love, with the perfect 'chilled out' vibe. Honestly, we have always dreamed of Sasha launching his own clothing line, and why not? He is the perfect ambassador for athleisure in India, with a wardrobe filled with hoodies, tees, joggers and some seriously cray kicks. Guess, abof heard us (and many of SK's shantics), as the e-commerce brand announced the launch of India’s first athleisure fashion brand, SKULT, exclusively on its portal earlier today.

This brand has been launched in partnership with Shahid, who, according to the brand, has built an iconic reputation amongst India’s youth through movies such as Udta Punjab, Haider, and Jab We Met. SKULT, built on the principle of ‘Fashion meets functionality' and 'Design meets Innovation’, is an evolved style of athleisure which draws inspiration from all around the world, but is perfectly adapted for Indian sensibilities and body types.

Now, we all know that athleisure is a huge trend globally. Athleisure clothing is designed to withstand vigorous routines, yet they are trendy enough to be worn everywhere. Identifying the void in Indian wardrobes and taking the idea of athleisure forward, abof.com has taken this street-wear hybrid trend to next level with the launch of SKULT, which actually stands for Shahid + Cult. SKULT’s athleisure collection is unconventional, yet easy to carry and more importantly, reminds the consumer something about Shahid’s personality in each of its piece. “Shahid is a youth icon who is admired for his style. We are extremely excited to partner with him in creating India’s first athleisure fashion brand which combines the actor’s love for ‘fun and comfortable’ dressing," stated Kedar Apshankar, Deputy CEO, abof.com.

Follow us on Instagram and watch Shahid Kapoor talk about SKULT

The atypical ‘Athleisure’ collection by Skult has been designed in-house by abof and has taken more than a year to work on this brand and its products. Commenting on his idea of SKULT, Shahid said, “Skult is about free styling, fashion and functionality. Skult is all about being yourself, wherever you are. It's about apparel that's an extension of your body. That allows you to express yourself with no restrictions or rules. Sometimes clothes that are cool, just feel too restricting. This line sets you free. Own style. Don't let style restrict you.”

SKULT is crafted to suit all occasions - work, casual or social. During our exclusive sneak peek at the collection, we noticed that it has a strong emphasis on black, grey, nude and monochromatic tones. The offbeat, yet trendy brand has a wide variety of merchandise for men in its launch season with over 250 options, which includes internationally trending categories like meggings and shackets. Apart from bringing these new categories in India, even the regular categories have intricate detailing - like thumb holes, drop shoulder jackets, scoop hem tees, long line tees with drawcord - which makes the collection really stand out. SKULT has used high-performance yet very lightweight fabrics - cotton viscose, slub jersey, grindles, melanges, snow heather, terry, lycra denim, cotton satin, and popcorn knit – with the single-minded objective to make it super comfortable. The line also consists of 50 key pieces under ‘SKULT SIGNATURE’ where each piece has been crafted by Shahid himself. Well, we will have one of each item, please!

SKULT by Shahid Kapoor is now available at http://www.abof.com/men/SKULT

      I, Daniel Blake - UK
      Director: Ken Loach
Winner of Palme d’Or and the Prix du Public winner at Locarno this year. 80-year-old British filmmaker Ken Loach’s latest populist masterpiece made him only the ninth director to win the Cannes award twice (after ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ in 2006). This emphatic drama is about a disabled man, strangled by the red tape of the benefits system.

First Screening: Day 02, Regal Cinema, 5:40 pm

      Neruda - Chile
      Director: Pablo Larrain
Neruda is the story of an inspector, who hunts down Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, and becomes a fugitive in his home country in the late 1940s for joining the Communist Party. The film had its World Premiere at Cannes, followed by much talked about screenings at Telluride, Toronto and New York, making it one of the highlights at MAMI this year.

First Screening: Day 01, PVR Icon (Audi 3), 12:30 pm

      Sand Storm - Israel
      Director: Elite Zexer
Elite Zexer’s Sand Storm is a story based in Southern Israel. The film is about a teen's forbidden love affair, that challenges the traditions of her Bedouin mother and father. The film won the Grand Jury prize at Sundance, earlier this year.

First Screening: PVR Mulund (Audi 1), 2:45 pm

      The Red Turtle - France
      Director: Michael Dudok de
This beautiful French-Belgian-Japanese animated film created a lot of buzz at the Cannes this year by winning the Un Certain Regard special prize. It is a co-production between Wild Bunch and Studio Ghibli. This film tells the story of a man, who tries to escape from a deserted island and battles a giant turtle. What's interesting is that the film has no dialogue, and is a hot favourite among film buffs at the fest this year.
First Screening: PVR Icon, (Audi 3), 10:30 am

      Elle
      Director: Paul Verhoeven
