Little Miss Sunshine!

$

"Happy girls are the prettiest. You are certainly one of them. But, let me remind you, that you are responsible for making several people around you look pretty everyday. Happy Birthday, little miss sunshine."
This simple message sent by a dear friend living across the seven seas (well, almost) was enough to make me smile on my birthday. There is nothing better than happiness, no matter how big or small the occasion is.

In this fast paced life, stress and teeny - weeny worries can easily take a toll on you. And that's when you realize that finding happiness in the smallest of things can bring a much needed smile on your face. It's not always that you need accessories or expensive items to brighten up your day. A simple, heartfelt smile and the will to spread happiness can make you prettier than any LV or Prada clad lady standing across the street.
Maybe, that's the reason why I love birthdays. Those who know me well will tell you how much I love them.
And when it comes down to my own, well, I love seeing happy faces everywhere and can't stop smiling myself.

They say, why be happy when birthdays actually mean that you are turning a year older. Growing up means more responsibilities, additional skin care, no more 'I am just a kid' talks, saving account woes and the likes.
I say, why so serious? Aren't there enough problems in this world to make even your special day sound so boring? Yes, focusing on your career goals is extremely important. And so are plans of buying a bigger house, a swanky car and staying safe with a strong bank balance.
But don't you deserve to do something that makes you happy from within?

Being a self confessed workaholic, I can say that it is absolutely necessary to take time out of your crazy schedule and enjoy the small joys that this world has to offer.
Observe the beautiful nature, enjoy the cold breeze, dance in the rain, sit by the roadside and enjoy a Kala Khatta ice gola, distribute chocolates to needy children, do a moonwalk in the middle of nowhere, feed some healthy food to a group of stray dogs, join your family on a long walk in the night, feed a few birds and give them some water or just give your best friend, parent or loved one a big bear hug. The list is endless and you never know, how and when you might just end up making that individual's or your own day special.

I feel blessed whenever I make someone happy. It can be through random snack parties, chocolate distribution, a simple festival wish or impromptu gifting. That's just how I am.

There are enough people who are constantly trying to bog you down and spread negativity, hatred and jealously. Let's try to be different and spread happiness, smiles and lots of hugs instead.

Let's make this world a happy place and become little miss sunshine's in our own way.

"Don't look for happiness. Create it."
Taking the promise (from my previous post) of spreading happiness to the next level, I have decided to celebrate the ongoing month as the month of happiness. And why not? You deserve to take time out from your long, work filled day and enjoy the small joys of life. Well, it's time to show off your moment of happiness to the world and inspire those who seriously need to allow some breezy happiness to enter their lives. Spreading a smile or a little bit of happiness doesn't hurt anyone, right?

Diary of a Dancebee is celebrating May as the month of happiness and we are launching a very special project to double the awesomeness.
Here's presenting, The Happiness Project!
Want to be a part of this inspiring campaign? Go ahead, read the post.

This is not a contest. Nor are we trying to set an example.
Our only mission to spread lots of happiness through this easy project. A lot of ongoing activities around the world are causing enough stress and pain. Violence, War, Political upheaval, Race towards success, Office politics. Gosh! The list is endless and starts from our very home and work place. It's time we bring out the happy moments from our life and share it with the world.
Khushiyaan baat ne se hi badhti hain
and
Happiness is only real when shared.
You never know, your one happy moment might end up inspiring someone.
Inspiring them to follow their heart, forget the worries and be happy.

Everyday, we will post one or more photograph/s of a person, who is spreading joy or celebrating a happy moment. This will be shared across all our social media platforms.
The aim is to help people understand that happiness can be found anywhere and everywhere, even in the smallest of things. You don't necessarily need a big announcement or purchase for happiness to come your way.

Want to be a part of the project? Follow the three steps and you are done!

1. Click a photograph / selfie of you or someone you know, who is enjoying happiness in the simplest of things. (You can even select an old picture).

2. Tweet it to @priyaadivarekar with the hashtag - #TheHappinessProject
or
Email it to info@priyaadivarekar.com

3. Describe the happy moment in 1-2 lines.

Everyday, one or more photographs will be promoted across all our social media platforms.

Come, be a part of the happiness wave (which is definitely better than other waves being discussed these days) and inspire people to wake up every morning with happiness filled in their heart.
After all,
The best feeling in the world is knowing that
someone else is happy because of you.

It's time to go sleeveless! Well, I am not giving you cliche advice that summer is here and this weather is making you dump all your full sleeve t-shirts and blouses in some corner of your wardrobe (which is true, but still). But Nivea India's whitening deo is giving you the chance to step out and show off your best sleeveless outfits, without worrying about your underarms.

No one here is promising you super white underarms overnight. But this product will prevent your underarm skin area from further darkening, while controlling perspiration and leaving your with a refreshing fragrance. All this, while working on giving you even toned underarms and that too, without any irritation (0% alcohol, duh!). How do I know? Well, I have tested this product for two weeks and since my skin is super sensitive, Nivea whitening deodorant came like a miracle product. Stays on for several hours and doesn't make your skin feel too sticky.

The traditional twist

I am not very fond of heavily embellished ethnic outfits. My all time favorite ethnic outfit has to be a simple and elegant lucknowi chikan suit or an elegant anarkali. I also love opting for collared kurtas in cotton. When an occasion demands something traditional, I usually opt for the simple Kurta - Churidaar look, albeit with a twist. Playing with colors and accessories is one such thing. Mixing colours is always fun, especially in summer. I recently did something similar, when I had to attend a morning Puja in Shirdi. And to add some extra fun, I wore my favorite pair of aviators along with it.

There are times when I just like to opt for a classic look. A simple outfit, pair of sunglasses, an elegant watch and I am ready to go. But experimenting with a dash of colors doesn't hurt, especially on a happy, sunny day (and more so, if it is your birthday morning). In this outfit, the pair of colorful earrings and the hint of neon green on my flat sandals broke the monotony of blue and pink.

So, the next time you go traditional, try moving away from the boring route and add a dash of colours to your plain Kurta - Churidaar look. But, don't over - accessorize the look. Stick to one stand out accessory, which can add some drama to your overall outfit. Keep the make - up minimal. I have only opted for a bright shade of pink matte lipstick and an eyeliner.

What's In My Bag?

Before the monsoons dawn upon us and my favorite season, the sunshine happy summer bids adieu, I thought of doing a fun post. This one is all about the things that I can't do without when I am out in the office or heading to a meeting or an interview. Here's a sneak peek into things that you will always find in my bag, apart from the usual box of mints, pen drives, iPod, earphones and more.

Being a journalist and fashion blogger, making notes, writing quotes in between an event and jotting down ideas is an everyday affair. Be it planning the number of interviews lined up for the coming week or making sure that my daily schedule is in place, I can't do without my Quirk Box organizer. And what's a journo's bag without some good stationary? You will always find colorful pens in my bag and on my office desk as well. The coin pouch from Forever 21 in pink also doubles up as a handy bill collector.

I am also loving the quirky collection from India Circus by Krsna Mehta. Being an absolute Apple geek, I can never leave my house without the iPad, iPod and of course, my iPhone. The beautiful iPad sleeves and sturdy phone cases from India Circus makes for a must buy. They are a far cry from the typical stuff that you get in the market. Being the film buff that I am, there couldn't have been anything more awesome than the vintage Eros cinema print on my phone case. The variety of prints available on the website can instantly spruce up your gadget. It's pretty affordable too. Oh! And they recently launched a new range for Samsung users as well. Check out the collection here

Summer is incomplete without a good sunscreen and I swear by Banana Boat sport for my body and Clinique SPF 50 (not in picture) for my face. Though I can't carry my Clinique Happy perfume (it's a super big bottle, too heavy), I am currently using and loving the Zara woman oriental perfume. The mini pet floral hand cream smells absolutely divine (and is keeping me happy till I buy another tube of my favorite, Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream). All those who know me will tell you that I can't live without my lip balm. You will always find 2 - 3 lip balms or chap-sticks in my bag. I am currently using Kiehl's cranberry lip balm, MAC tinted lip conditioner and the NIVEA medicated lip repair. A small mirror and set of floral make up brushes from Forever 21 also find some space in the bag. Right now, I am also loving the L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Moist Matte Lipstick. The staying power is great and I love the color.

TIGI Bed Head Contest + Ego Boost Leave In Review

It's that time of the year when you often crib about bad hair days and how the humidity, (at least, that's the main concern in Mumbai) wind and other elements ruin your hairstyle everyday. The result? Residue builds up, your hair becomes messy, some even start dealing with major dandruff problems among others. But, with the use of good hair care and styling products (also don't forget, a good diet), you can keep the unnecessary stress away. So, while I have been loving the Re-energize shampoo and conditioner by Bed Head TIGI, I recently tried the Ego Boost split end mender - leave in conditioner. And boy! What a product.

Diary of a Dancebee is collaborating with TIGI Bed Head to give two lucky winners a super exciting gift hamper each. Want to know more? Read on.

Product - Bed Head TIGI Ego Boost Leave In Conditioner

What does it promise? - Seal, smooth and protect your hair.

How to use? - As a split end mender, apply it to your ends. As a leave - in conditioner, smooth over
fly-aways as needed. Apply on wet or dry hair.

My experience - Ego Boost is just the right amount of care, packed in a cute little bright pink bottle, that my hair needed. Frazzled, tired, frizzy hair need not worry if this product is around. It started working well on the first day of use itself. The product is not very thick or greasy. Emulsify the product well, use it on your hair and see how it strengthens and adds elasticity to dry, weather affected hair as well (I used it after a long day out in the sun and my dry hair were treated to this product after a hair wash. It locked a great amount of moisture and shine in my hair, that lasted quite a few days). Plus, the fragrance is absolutely divine.

Final verdict - Hands down a must buy on my list! It's a great multi-tasking, damage repairing product.

 Price - Rs 850 for a 237ml bottle

Shelf life - Two years from the date of manufacturing

And now, you can win yourself a fabulous gift hamper from TIGI Bed Head and Diary of a Dancebee by simply participating in the Your Hair Your Way contest!
It's a simple contest, where in the end, we will pick two lucky winners.

Review - Smile Bar (Mumbai)

"A woman's beauty lies in her wholehearted smile." This simple statement is something that I have always believed in. A charming smile is the best accessory one can ever ask for. It can lift up a dull day or even a boring outfit. You have got the best baubles to spruce up your apparel, the most expensive make-up items to look good, but what about your pearlie whites? If you are among those who thinks the daily routine of brush-floss and mouthwash is not enough, maybe the newly opened Smile Bar can be of some help.
We were invited to try a session at the first outlet of Smile Labs Cosmetic Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai, named Smile Bar, which opened in March this year. Read ahead to find out more about our experience.

What?  -  A one of it's kind, lounge style cosmetic teeth whitening lab, called Smile Bar.

Where? - Bandra, Mumbai.

What does it promise? - The team of dentists or like they prefer, grooming experts, promise whiter teeth in just 15 minutes. The basic service guarantees up to 8 shades whiter teeth in a single treatment, with a sensitivity free technology, which according to them, is absolutely enamel safe.

Ambience - A lot unlike your usual dental clinics. The lounge inspired set up might make you wonder if you are actually going in for a treatment or some kind of a conversation with friends over some drinks. Futuristic pod chairs, blue LED lights, headphones and some great music playing in the background,
they have got it all.

The procedure: When I walked in, I was first introduced to the entire treatment with the help of a video, which explained the 15 minute long procedure, step-by-step. Smile Bar uses a special paint-on technique with a cosmetic teeth whitening gel (FDA and Ministry of Health in India approved, according to them) and light technology. Before going ahead, the current shade of my teeth was checked and a photograph was clicked to match the before and after results.  I was then taken to one of the pod chairs reserved for me. After sinking in, I was offered a pair of headphones, before starting off with the 15 minute long procedure, which was completely painless. The treatment kit is made for one time use and is discarded as soon as the procedure comes to an end. The attendants are kind enough to keep a check on you after every two minutes, in order to ensure that you are comfortable. After the procedure, my new shade was compared to the older one, on both the shade card and the photograph. A list of do's and don'ts were provided, which had to be followed for at least a day.

Post the treatment, all smiles. Posing while relaxing in the pod chair
My experience: Being someone whose doesn't smoke or drink tea, the normal shade of my teeth was pretty good enough. Although the post treatment shade did go up by 8 times, I personally felt the difference was pretty average. I was told not to expect a stark contrast between the before and after comparison in the first treatment itself. The dentists advised another round of treatment after six months, to ensure the current shade stays, apart from taking regular care. Although not many could notice the difference, it personally felt nice to have a set of extra white pearlies.

Price: Basic service - Rs 6995 (for 8 shades whiter teeth)
Rs 10,995 (for 14 shades whiter teeth)

Verdict: You have to give it to them for the overall experience. But, the price might still be a deterrent for those who are not ready to invest a big amount for a set of white teeth. For those who can, do give Smile Bar a try. It won't disappoint you!

Note:If you have any dental issues, please consult your personal dentist and then go ahead with this treatment. Not advised for those with acute sensitivity and other major dental problems.
The Dancebee has given an honest review of her personal experience at the clinic and the treatment may vary for each individual.

An evening with Rado

Hello folks! It's that time of the month when rains lash across the city and the gloomy climate is forcing (most of us) to tuck under a comfortable blankie, with a hot cuppa in one hand and a beautiful book in the other. So, all of us can do with a little bit of sunshine, right? And what if I told you, it can be wrapped around your wrist, is extremely elegant and has just the right amount of bling. Well, the 'sunshine' that I am referring to here is not your usual, round ball of fire that you see up there, in the sky.
It's a little beauty called the Rado Esenza Ceramic Touch, which I was introduced to during the #AllWhiteInRado event held at Taj Lands End in Mumbai.

Here's a glimpse of the lovely evening, where select bloggers from the city enjoyed a pleasant tete-a-tete with brand ambassador (the ever so gorgeous) Lisa Ray, over hors d'oeuvre, lip smacking main course, desserts and of course, our elegant stars of the evening - Rado watches.

I have been a self confessed fan of Rado watches since I was a teenager. Buying a classic beauty from their vast collection was and will always be considered as a moment of pride. Since decades, grandparents and parents have known to pass on the legacy (read - a Rado watch) to the next generation. In fact, I remember telling my dad couple of years back (in between adding stuff to my super long bucket list), that someday, I will collect enough money (with my hard work) to buy you, mom and myself this priceless beauty called Rado.

The expression says it all. In love with the Rado Centrix Jubile watch

I must add, chatting with the lovely Lisa Ray was an absolute delight. She is extremely warm and added the perfect charm to this chic evening. And yes, she did talk about getting back to blogging very soon. I am definitely looking forward to that and so should all of you. She is an amazing inspiration for every girl.

And as the wonderful evening came to an end (it was scheduled to be an hour long meet, but we just didn't realize how time passed away), all of us posed for a keepsake. After all, this stylish evening certainly deserved a photograph, that had all the beautiful ladies and debonair gentlemen posing with their favourite Rado watches.

Rado Esenza Ceramic Touch is an exclusive collection for women. It is a touch controlled watch in full ceramic, which can be controlled by the gentle touch and sweep of a finger (left for hours and right for minutes). The watch does not have a crown, which means - bye bye broken finger nails (I know a lot of people who struggle while changing the settings).

The Neck Care Guide

We have all got our facial skin care regime in place. The regular cleansing-toning-moisturizing routine, miracle serums and all that. Even your arms, back and legs have special body butters and lotions to take care of. But, have you ever paid special attention to your neck? Yes, you heard it right.
The neck area has lesser oil glands, when compared to other parts of the body. As a result, it ends  up feeling more dry and is often the most neglected part, when it comes to skincare. I know people who will apply generous amounts of moisturizers with SPF and liquid foundations on their face, skipping the neck area, which eventually looks patchy and of a different complexion.
Here's a simple guide to taking good care of your neck, thus avoiding a double chin and eventually, sagging.

- Extend your regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing (most important part) routine up to
the neck area everyday, even in the night.

- Do not skip your sun block. The sun rays don't spare any body part. So, why should your neck suffer? Apply a good amount everyday, all year round.

- For those with dry or very dry skin, some extra moisturizing won't harm. You can moisturize the neck area while applying your face cream and sun block, followed by the body moisturizer used for other parts.

- In case the above mentioned point is not possible, invest in a good neck cream.

Clarins Extra Firming Neck Cream is a good buy

- While using any moisturizer, use upward strokes. That's the best way.

- Chew a carrot (also good for the eyes) or little bit of cucumber once a day. Chewing is also a simple form of workout, as it allows your facial muscles to move around.

- A good neck and shoulder massage is always welcome.

- While reading a book or using a laptop / tablet / mobile phone, keep it at your eye level. Looking down for long hours is not the ideal way, at least for your neck.

- Make sure you include at least 10 - 15 minutes of neck stretches and exercises in your daily routine. Make good use of the PT (physical training) exercises that you learnt in school. Don't let 'I am working round the clock' become an excuse. You can perform these exercises even while sitting on the chair.

Ten ways to encourage positivity - #iBelieveInMe

$

0
There are days when you lose all hope and just don't want to give anything a chance. In your mind, you know that a little bit of effort may just do the trick, but instead, you prefer to hang your boots and distance yourself from all kinds of conversations. Then, there are times when you are so confused and puzzled, that all you need is that one ray of hope, that can change your perspective towards life and things around you for good. You may not always find a source of sunshine around you and that is when you need to build a strong and positive state of mind. It's important, because positivity not only reflect on your mental state, but also on your face, health and overall well being. Read on to know more about the ten simple things that you need to do and tell yourself everyday.

1. Don't stop dreaming! Work hard, so much that you are capable enough to strike off one item after another from your bucket list, before you accomplish your final goal. Never give up!

2. Get up, get out of your bed and welcome the sunshine with open arms. Whip up a healthy breakfast, mixed with a few good food items that you like. Listen to your favourite song or enjoy a light conversation with your bestie on the phone (or your family, if you are not alone), because your early morning mood can affect how you feel during the rest of the day.

3. Look out of the window and appreciate the beautiful works of Mother Nature. Hear the birds chirping, look at the lush green trees and the beautiful blue sky. They are all there for you, so remember, you are not alone.

4. Do a quick 5 minute meditation technique to get rid of all your anxieties and troublesome worries. Take a deep breath, stretch your body and in eight counts, slowly relax your body, look down and exhale.

5. Bring out your favourite outfit, pair it up with the perfect accessories and choose the right make-up products. Instead of stressing over it and making it a formal drill, dressing up should keep you excited about which outfit you can show off the next day. A well put together outfit always ensures compliments, which can definitely make your day.

6. Don't forget to wear your most important accessory - A smile!

7. Don't just wait for someone to give you a hug or say how pretty you are looking today. Walk towards the mirror, take a look and hug yourself. "You are special and there is no one like you" - repeat this line and walk ahead confidently. Learn to love yourself too.

8. Do not assume that things will turn out to be disastrous and nothing will work your way. Starting your day on a negative note is the worst thing to do. Always believe in yourself and say - Yes! I will have a great day.

9. A simple To-Do list can really organise things in your life for good. Don't try to pack your list with multiple tasks, which you may not even end up completing (which will make you feel all the more miserable). Jot down a few important tasks & work out your schedule in a way that the tasks can be easily achieved.

10. A tiny treat for your accomplishments, no matter how big or small, is always welcome. Go, buy a small bar of chocolate, pick up a bunch of fresh flowers for your vase or just go watch a film. Remember, you deserve it!

Go ahead, believe in yourself and fill your life with lots of happiness.
Much love.

LFW - DHL presents Opening Show by Amit Aggarwal and Masaba Gupta

$

It's that time of the year again, when fashionistas get ready to put their best foot forward and the who's who of the fashion industry comes together to showcase their talent (and some really creative designs) on the runway. Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 kicked off with a bang at a new venue - Palladium Hotel - yesterday, with a full house to witness designers Amit Aggarwal and Masaba Gupta create magic on the runway. And well, they definitely left us impressed. Take a look!

Amit Aggarwal's collection was space age couture at its best. The collection, that according to him is inspired by tribal influences like weaving techniques, striped tattoos and structured jewelry, wonderfully mixed androgyny with feminity.

Lots of black, gold and deep tones like wine, blue among others dominated the runway, in fabrics (as stated by Aggarwal) like washed matt silks, crepe de chine, dutchess satin and more.
At the end of the showcase, the ever-so-gorgeous and confident Sushmita Sen rocked the ramp with her elegant walk, in a beautiful mix of mesh, metallics and peplum in black.

Popular (and some of my favourite) 80's disco numbers, right from Mama mia to Daddy cool, kickstarted Masaba Gupta's showcase. Titled Wanderess, the collection is said to be inspired by Roman Payne's poetry. Floral prints, geometric, colourful hues and interesting figure hugging silhouettes dominated her collection, which according to Gupta, is a reflection of the free-spirited, new age woman. The collection had a strong influence of the 60's and 70's, what with bell bottoms and flare sleeves making a comeback. Wanderlust already, anyone?

I loved how Gupta has added an interesting twist to the sari by experimenting with the fabrics and cuts. The jewellery by Amrapali also added a great touch to the gypsy inspired collection. Most of the outfits are pretty wearable and as Gupta likes to put it, 'perfumed with romace'. The stunning Shilpa Shetty Kundra closed the show for Gupta's collection, as she slowly walked towards the centrestage, with beats of Urvashi Urvashi playing in the background. The highlight? Models burning the ramp with their moves and having a great time.

And, here's what I wore on the opening day!

Dress: Mango Suit
Peep toes: Steve Madden
Earrings: Forever 21
Watch: Tommy Hilfiger
iPad clutch inspired cover: Gift
Make up: Lipstick - MAC Ruby Woo

Also, I experimented by trying the outfit with my hair left open, followed by a neat pony tail (which I eventually opted for).

Daawat - E - Ishq Music Review

If the title of the film is anything to go by, you can at least expect a blend of masaledaar tunes (apart from the lip smacking Hyderabadi food tossed up) in Daawat-E-Ishq. Composers Sajid-Wajid have whipped up a decent bhel puri of seven tracks, but still, one can't help but state the fact that this album misses out on that one major chart-buster that a film really needs.

The album opens with the delightful and energetic title track, Daawat-E-Ishq. Singer Javed Ali sings this Qawalli number with great enthusiasm, while the female vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan are good. This well penned number takes you back in time, in the 70s era when well composed Qawallis ruled the scene. The romantic number Mannat is strictly okay and despite the fact that Sonu Nigam does a good job, it fails to create the kind of magic that his songs are generally known to create. The song has decent use of instrument, but it starts to bore you after the antara and a few portions even sound uncannily similar to Nigam's popular, Satrangi re from Dil Se. Even the reprise version in Shreya Ghoshal's voice is average.

Shalmali Kholgade creates a nice and peppy atmosphere with her good rendition of Shayarana, which again, sounds a lot like her breakthrough hit - Pareshaan from Ishaqzaade. Nevertheless, it's a sweet number, where the girl realises her love for the guy. Rangreli is full of band, baaja and baraati tunes. This dance number has a good use of trumpets, Dhol and other instruments. The singers have sung the number with great zest. Jaadu tone vaaliyan is passable, thanks to the repetition and below-average composition.

But it's the Daawat-E-Ishq instrumental that perfectly brings out the theme of the film. With portions where daily use kitchen instruments are used to create music and a few parts where dialogues add a good touch (sample this: Do Gulaab Jamun table no 4 pe), this one is a winner. Overall, Sajid-Wajid may not have not given us an extraordinary soundtrack, but Daawat-E-Ishq definitely scores as a decent album.

Lakme Fashion Week Diaries W/F 2014 - I

A day at the fashion week means choosing the perfect outfit that is not only comfortable (which always tops my priority, since spending long hours hopping from one show to the other is not a joke) but also shows off your style statement. The style that defines your personality. It is very easy to ape people, but standing out of the crowd and making a statement (while being comfortable at the same) ain't an easy task. Over the years, I have understood that while I love experimenting with trends and I am definitely more open to trying different prints and silhouettes, but there are some things which will always be a staple choice. My love for a red lipstick (MAC Ruby Woo to be precise) is just one of them, while pairing shades of blue with white is another. It just reminds me of the infinite sky above us.

Speaking of comfort, what really took the cake this season was the fantastic arrangement made at the Palladium hotel (venue for this year's Lakme Fashion Week) through an exclusive lounge area for bloggers called the LFW Apartment. This cozy apartment on the 27th floor made for the perfect space to unwind, enjoy the breath-taking view, post some live updates and get a gorgeous makeover done, courtesy Bedhead TIGI and Lakme. More details about the apartment will be presented in one of our upcoming posts.

When in doubt, I always opt for a jacket or blazer in bright colours or pretty prints. It can spruce up any outfit. The asymmetrical skirt in this outfit is a favorite, especially because of its color and fit. Don't miss the earrings in the form of a leopard's nail. Such quirky elements in an otherwise simple outfit can turn out to be a head turner.

While most people weren't too happy with the change in venue, I enjoyed my Lakme Fashion Week experience at the Palladium. Though there is no doubt that Grand Hyatt served as the perfect host all these years, the hospitality and warmth of the staff at Palladium Hotel also deserves a mention. They were extremely co-operative and were always around to guide people from the MSA to the Jabong stage or Source. I absolutely love the vintage feel that this hotel offers and yes, travelling was also easier for South Mumbaikars like me.

"हे देवा दिली हाक उद्धार कराया
आभाळाची छाया तुझी, समिंदराची माया"

The eleven day long divine atmosphere experienced during the period of Ganesh Utsav in Mumbai cannot be matched. People dancing with joy, thronging pandals and soaking in the festive fun is a common sight in the entire city. The eye catching streets glimmer with bright lights and the whiff of fragrant flowers bring a warm smile on every individual's face. Being a Ganesh bhakt and self confessed fan of visiting different pandals to catch a glimpse of my favourite god in different forms, I always carry my DSLR along. The pandal hopping session began with Lalbaugcha Raja aka Market cha Ganpati in Lalbaug (currently in it's 81st year), one of the oldest and most revered pandals in the city. Right from the masses to the celebrity folks, no one can get enough of this adorable idol with beautiful eyes and super cute cheeks.

Various citizens run, push and jump in the crowd, only to catch a glimpse of him. They carry flowers and coconuts, asking the king to fulfill their wishes. But the lord, unperturbed by the hullabaloo around him, is calm and composed. His smile, which makes him look adorable as ever, stays on. Never mind the hundreds of volunteers who scream "Pudhe chala" at the top of their voice, the benevolent Raja keeps an eye on all his bhaktas and listens to them patiently.
Glimpses of our special meeting with the Raja.

All those who are in Mumbai right now (or belong to the city), you must try and visit the pandal to experience everything that I have stated in this post.

It was all things glitter, glamour, glitz and gloss at the Grand Finale of the Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2014, where popular designer Manish Malhotra presented his collection in front of a packed house at the Palladium Hotel. Apart from the fact that the front row was filled with Malhotra's best friends from the Hindi Film Industry and how both Varun Dhawan and Kareena Kapoor Khan charmed everyone with their walk; it was the eye-catching set up that had all the shutterbugs enjoying click happy moments. Never mind the fact that the show was royally delayed by an hour and a half, the veteran designer was successful in keeping us hooked on to his beautiful festive collection, which stayed true to the 'Glossy' theme.

The Many Moods of Kareena Kapoor Khan, showstopper for Manish Malhotra's grand finale showcase at the Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2014

Shimmery fabrics, different shades of the colours grey, pink, maroon and purple, intricate embroidery work dominated this collection, that is filled with some beautiful couture lehangas, sarees among others. Kareena, looking radiant and absolutely gorgeous, stole the show in a blingy bridal number, as she walked the ramp with her diva-esquish attitude (and a pout). The deep purple and silver lehanga created a perfect melange with the metallic grey choli and studded jacket.

Oh and hey! There was something in store for the guys too (or in this case, should I say girls). Actor Varun Dhawan opened the show and was among the few male models who showcased the men's festive couture range designed by Malhotra. Dhawan looked dapper in a grey blazer (with an interesting velvet wine collar) and black trousers, complete with a deep purple pocket square and retro sunglasses. The actor's popularity was for everyone to see, with girls seated behind us screaming 'Munda kukkad kamaal da' as soon as he made an appearance.

What we think: The collection stayed true to its theme and presented some really beautiful outfits that are perfect for festive occasions, weddings or other events.

Our pick: Almost all the gorgeous lehangas and studded metallic jacket worn by Kareena Kapoor Khan

#mycalvins moments with Calvin Klein Jeans (FNO India)

Shopping at the Calvin Klein Jeans store is always a good experience. They have got something for everyone. During my recent visit to the store during Vogue Fashion's Night Out India, I happened to check out their latest Autumn/Winter collection and boy! they have really got some awesome stuff. A dash of colours dominate some apparel kept in one corner, while some trousers and sweat pants in futuristic prints are neatly displayed at the other side. One can't help but hop to the accessories section as well, where pretty sunnies and wallets look out to seek your attention. I picked up some of my favourites from the collection to put together a few outfits. What's my take on the collection? Read on to find out!

Simple, effortless and stylist; three words that perfectly describe the new collection. Darker hues for autumn isn't the norm anymore. Bold colours were a huge trend on the runway at most fashion weeks abroad recently and Calvin Klein Jeans has used some interesting hues like teal, neon green and coral to add some colour. Otherwise, the collection includes a lot of apparel in classic colours like white and black.

After spending sometime checking out the apparel and accessories, it was time for me to pair up a few things and put together some outfits. I picked two themes: Edgy with a classic touch and Beach. Here's what I came up with

Since the ongoing #mycalvins campaign asked fashion lovers to click a selfie in their CKJ outfits, I joined the bandwagon and captured this moment just before changing into the next outfit. And yes, I am in love with these pants. The fabric is very comfortable, the pant fits like a dream and the edgy print is unique. Pair it with a basic white t-shirt or go bold with neon hues and you are ready to rock the world.

The two tone sleeveless top can look effortlessly chic with a skirt or add a relaxed, casual vibe when paired with shorts. This pair of white shorts is not your usual denim fare. The cotton blend fabric is very comfortable and the regular fit (provided they have a pair in your size) adjusts perfectly around your waist and hip area. These casual beach flip-flops are perfect for a day out at the beach or a stroll along some coastal area. The hint of orange in these flip-flops added some more colour to the outfit, which is mostly dominated by white. Bright lips go well, especially a bold red hue in matte. Carry a tote, some sunscreen and a beach hat; Whoop! You are ready to go.

And hey, look who I bumped into while sourcing my favourite Calvin Klein Jeans outfit. So, I posed with Grooming Guru Riaan George of urbaneye.in and Kamille Kyla Packard from stylecracker.com (these two were totally rocking their respective CKJ outfits) in between my own shoot.

What we love about the collection: Use of comfortable fabric, different prints and a variety of colours. +1 for the distressed denims, casual shorts and futuristic print pants.

What we don't like about the collection: No cons as such, though I wish they have more variety in bags and accessories (PS: which I heard they will be expanding very soon).

Final verdict: Head to CKJ and trust me, the new collection will leave you impressed! And yes, we are waiting to check our the new range of jackets, which will be available in the store by November.

5 things we loved about Mary Kom (film)

The Priyanka Chopra starrer Mary Kom released last week and needless to say, got a good response at the box office. The critics may have a different story to tell, but we can tell you that the audience certainly enjoyed the biopic of the famous Olympic champion, as they cheered, 'awwwed' and even whistled during the film. We list 5 things that we absolutely loved about Mary Kom (the film).

1. Priyanka Chopra's hard hitting performance

Of course, duh! How can anyone ignore the determination and 'ziddi dil' spirit displayed by Priyanka Chopra. Hats off to this girl, as she dedicated two years of her life to this film and transformed herself completely to step into the shoes of Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, India's Olympic champion. She has done complete justice to the role essayed by her, with the perfect attitude and expressions, as her character progresses from being a girl to a woman and ultimately, the world champion. Don't miss the scene where she gives it back to the Federation chief. You can see the confidence and anger in her eyes. If there is any actress who could do this, it was PeeCee! More power to you, girl.

2. Darshan Kumar's debut

This guy couldn't have asked for a better debut. A fine actor with some credible theatre experience, Darshan Kumar stands out as Onler (Mary's husband), despite the fact that the film is mostly dominated by Chopra. He emotes well, looks decent and did not display a single moment of 'over-acting' in his performance. Now that he will be acting opposite Anushka Sharma in his next, we are waiting to see if he impresses us again.

3. Sunil Thapa as the coach

We can't thank God, director Omung Kumar and the casting director of this film enough for not casting a 'been there, seen him' actor as the coach. Roping in Sunil Thapa (a well known actor from Nepal) was definitely a good choice. Not only did Thapa essay the role perfectly (with his stern looks and perfect body language), he added a sense of freshness to the cast, along with Kumar and Mary's parents in the film. We were tired of seeing the stereotype faces and wannabe coaches on screen (except Coach Kabir Khan aka SRK in Chak De... and Pawan Malhotra in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)

4. Ziddi Dil and Sukoon Mila

These two songs, especially the former, are currently on the loop on our iPods. Ziddi Dil is brilliantly sung by Vishal Dadlani, while the motivating lyrics by Prashant Ingole keep you hooked on. Shashi Suman has given us a new anthem, which not only inspires, but also pushes an individual to work hard and run against all odds to achieve your goal. Then, we have got the melodious Sukoon mila, where Arijit Singh creates magic with his soft rendition of the song. Composer Shivamm Pathak does a good job with this romantic number, which is not very cheesy or typical.

5. Make up and Training

As much as we can't stop raving about Priyanka's performance, we have to give it to her trainer and make up artist as well. Instead of following the stereotypes and using prosthetic make-up to help PeeCee look like she hails from Manipur, artist Uday Shirale kept it simple. The bruises looked real and so did the freckles (for sometime). Trainer Samir Jaura has made sure that Priyanka's muscles and overall personality looks like a real boxer. Her stances in the ring, shoulder muscles, biceps and triceps were nearly perfect.

Have you seen Mary Kom? What did you like about the film?

Music Review - Hasee Toh Phasee

$

This one has the perfect combination, with Dharma Productions, composers in the form of Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kumaar as lyricists and moreover, two young guns - Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra – in the lead. Fortunately, this amazing package does present some decent foot tapping tracks, it is the romantic numbers that surprise and how!

The album opens with Punjabi Wedding Song, a bhangra number with a difference. Instead of being the regular run of the mill dance number, this one promotes bhangra and how the dance form brings the family together. Both Sunidhi Chauhan and Benny Dayal add an infectious energy to this song. The antara portions are peppy and well penned. Dadlani joins Shreya Ghoshal for a fun, dance number called Drama Queen, which is one of the best dance songs in the album. The song is full of zest and has the perfect blend of desi and western tunes, making it the kind of a song that you would want to dance on. Ghoshal is in her best elements, as her voice matches the Parineeti Chopra's quirkyness in the video.

Dadlani makes a comeback with Dayal, as they take us back to the 70s with Shake It Like Shammi. The song pays homage to none other than the rock n roll king - Shammi Kapoor. Interestingly, the lyrics are also in line with the kind of fun element that was prevalent in Kapoor's songs. We love the use of saxophone and trumpets, which adds the retro charm to the track. But just when you want to label the album as all things dance, Shafqat Amanat Ali's Manchala reminds you that there is more to this album than just peppiness. It makes for a nice contemporary number. Ravjiani and Chinmayi Sripada's fresh and soulful Zehnaseeb comes next. The romantic rendition and hummable lyrics make for a soft, soothing hear and the musical arrangement too is in line with the solemn mood of the song.

The best track of the album is reserved for the end, as Sanam Puri and debutante Shipra Goyal beautifully render Ishq Bulaava. The composition is simply amazing, with melodious tunes and the perfect use of different instruments like the guitar, piano among others.
Overall, the composers have done a decent job with the Hasee Toh Phasee album, with a few unexpected melodies like Ishq Bulaava which will definitely stay with you for long.
